To any decerning observers, particularly those in security circles, this was a deliberate incident. The airport where the plane was forced to land is not a transit airport for commercial airlines. ONLY the Nigeria delegation were diverted it. Yet, am sure many planes came into that country that very day. That's troubling. Also, the reception was obviously hostile. Soldiers and armed men were confronting the boys and they exchanged words. They almost traded blows. There were no other passengers around that airport but the Nigerian delegation. Yet, they were watched, monitored and their movement curtailed. In effect, they were held hostage style for hours in dehumanizing conditions.
