Violence Breaks Out In Port Harcourt Following Fubara Order For Caretaker-Takeover Of LGAs

Governor Fubara's directive to heads of administration in the 23 local government areas of the state to assume leadership of the council areas generated spontaneous reactions in most local government areas in Rivers State.
At the Secretariat of Port Harcourt City Council, there were sporadic gunshots, as the Police scared away scores of youths, who stormed the premises to protest.
The youths said they were at the secretariat for a peaceful demonstration against the immediate past council Chairmen, whom they claimed refused to vacate office after the expiration of their tenure.

Jide's penchant for partisan analysis in favour of the APC is a known fact, which he demonstrated here once again when he failed to address the unconstitutionality of tenure elongation for Local Government Chairmen by the former leadership of the House of Assembly. Tenures of Executive Offices are constitutional and no legislative body can unilaterally tamper with such provisions the way Jide is trying to justify it.
