I done this job many times in my Diesel Shop! Awesome explanation and video 👍👍 Was thinking you missed mentioning the removal of the timing pin O-ring and star washer, then you mentioned it later in the video. Very nice explanation and video ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Goes to show determination and hard work pay off. You didn't pass the buck or give some bs answer blowing the customer off. I commend your dedication. Stay safe, and God bless

I got a chuckle out of you identifying the cam profile without needing a reference. Good stuff!!

Its because of things like this that A) I'm hoarding any and all manuals and factory spec/data sheets I can find B)only trust a small handful of old local retired mechanics and a few aftermarket shops C) take detailed and lengthy notes lots of pics and videos and do as much as I can myself. Its getting old dealing with companies that just rebrand and parts shelf things at a premium. Keep up lenny you guys are great up there looking forward to dropping a set of your injectors in my engine soon.

Fascinating episode, well done getting to the bottom of the problem!! If it's not running right there's got to be a reason, it's not magic !!!!!

Thank you for the info and sharing your wisdom/knowledge and experience. What chart were you referencing on the pump lift measurements per degree? And where would one locate one of them?

I appreciate your videos. I have a 160 hp 95 and I remember a long time ago I set my timing using the snap on tools and the chart of mm lift for that pump . I set it to 18 dogs of timing. I was told my of folks that's to much ect ect . My mileage went from 16 to 21 on the highway. Some times a bit better but I conservative . I found no down side from the timing set there . That over 20 years ago . Truck had 218 k on it now with a g56 conversion, . I might be interested in a pump at some point if I have problems with my truck . Thanks for the videos
@DynomiteDieselTV2 жыл бұрын
You optimized your timing for the RPM range that the truck is most frequently operated in. There's nothing wrong with that!

Would slightly warming the gear help by getting it that little further on the taper?
@DynomiteDieselTV2 жыл бұрын
Most people don't remove the gear, or timing cover, so how would you warm it?
@jason867682 жыл бұрын
I have a crazy idea: There's two threaded holes on that gear for pulling it off right? Maybe attach stick-welder leads to bolts threaded into those holes, and electrically heat up the tapered bore of the gear (after cleaning thoroughly). Probably way more trouble than it's worth.

No start up?..or was it not fixed yet
@user-el4ii7zq6l3 жыл бұрын
Could you have pinned the pump and had a general idea of the original timing and that would have been close enough to make the truck run properly? Was there no tag on the injection pump.
@DynomiteDieselTV3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would have given us an idea. Unfortunately, this truck had been to multiple other shops before we got our hands on it. It also has the wrong pump cam installed.

So frustrating when these reman companies mix match components like this! Just like customers getting a “built” 48re with the older / weaker 47 guts. Good work guys!

Throw lift timing chart away, spill port time all pumps. Problem solved.

yooo... how the heck is that things powersteering pump not smoked... thats breaking some pretty basic rules as far as feeding it. how is that even working?

Seems shady to sell a pump with mix and matched parts. If I was that guy with that pump, I would be pissed at the person or company that sold me that pump.
@DynomiteDieselTV3 жыл бұрын
The customer definitely wasn't pleased once we told him what we had discovered, yet thankful to have answers and a better running pickup. He understands that he's on borrowed time with the current pump, and will be coming back for one of our pump builds when he's ready!

Ya know what? P-Pumps are beasts when it comes to making power no doubt. But all things considered since I run about 300hp in a fairly stock '02 HO...I'll just stick with my VP44. That whole job looked like a major PITA!
@DynomiteDieselTV3 жыл бұрын
It was definitely a challenge! There's nothing wrong with a VP44, we still have several in our fleet that we use for testing purposes!
