If this mess is NOT the result of an EV fire, don't you think they'd be publicising it, heavily, given the huge investments in EV's, & the fact that sales are very much either flatlineing or dropping, despite governmental pressures. Its very much in the public interest to know if, or not, their highly expensive motors are going up in smoke, possibly taking their house with it, maybe worse. Secrecy, although prevalent in the shipping & insurance industries, actually serves no-one. Even them, in the end.

Boskalis said after the first inspection of the ship that removing those wrecks can't be done in the Eemshaven. As they are essentiall scrap and not intact cars and not a single part of those cars is salvagable, i think Dutch Customs will let them go wherever the ship goes from here. Ship has to be out of port by 14 October as port authorities have no space for her after that date. There has only been speculation about where she might go from here. There is a scrapping facility in Northern Denmark that might take on the scrapping. I don't think she is in any shape to be towed halfway around the world to Singapore or South Korea to be scrapped. EU regulation says she's only allowed to go to a scrapping facility that observes workers' health and environmental protection when scrapping.

@@WhoStoleMyAlias there was no burning car extracted from the ship. The badly damaged one that was hoisted out was an EV with a damaged battery. To prevent it from catching fire during transport, they put it in a skip and filled it with salt water to drain the remaining charge in the battery. Since that gives off a poisonous cloud there were four people with full body protection gear breathing tank air that pulled a tarp over it. The other skips (the 30 odd next to the corrall with the driveable cars) all contain badly damaged vehicles. There was at least one more skip where they put seawater into after it was moved off the ship, but the tarp stayed over it. There is no way to tell if these were all EV's or were ICE cars that were tarped over to prevent environmental damage from any parts they might lose during transport. The only thing intact is it's lower hull and the engine room. All the control runs to and from any other machinery and the engine room is lost, the movable decks inside have buckled and warped or have fallen down already, the upper deck hull frames are warped, the deck is warped, and the entire crew accomodation and bridge have burned out. She came in under a bad (12 degree) list and in the past few weeks she developed the same list but less again. I doubt she could make it safely anywhere that could outfit her. I think (my personal opinion of what I've seen of the damage) is that the upper six decks can only be removed by cutting through the decks from above, leaving her upper hull dangerously unsupported, so only cutting her down to deck 5 and then building her back up would be safe. And thats just about building a new ship, considering all the control runs would need to be replaced to all the machinery. It will probably be a write-off with maybe the engine being granted a second life in a different ship if she has like 20+ years to go.
