Shirley had trusted Katy to look after Mick while she was getting help with her mental health and Katy abused her trust. It's not about her traumas, it's her being pissed at the woman who abused her son. Linda on the other hand was raped similar to Mick, it's a smililar trauma, but different since Mick didn't understand the concept of rape or consent as a child and Linda was an adult when it happened to her

Shirley is his Mother, Linda is his wife both of them want to protect Mick like any mother or partner/ spouse would if they had discovered they had been abused. My mother would do time for any of us. Mick was technically raped by Katy and with that carries the same psychological trauma that his own wife experienced when Dean raped her, for Shirley there is the guilt that he went into the care system anyway, due to her suffering a mental breakdown at the time, but she is there for her first born now, and her reaction is a natural one. If I had had children, and someone hurt them I would rip them to shreds.
