Yes, the KeyFramer FX is one of the oldest FX modes in TVPaint . It has had a few improvements introduced over the years, but for the most part it's basic functions are unchanged , so any tutorial for the KeyFramer tool will apply to any version of TVPaint. The KeyFramer is a very versatile tool, but the main thing they need to improve on it is to make it easier to set the Pivot Point by simply clicking and dragging the pivot point to the origin point you want the artwork to pivot around (like you can do in the Transform Tool) ... as it is now the procedure for setting the pivot point in the KeyFramer is rather clunky. The workaround is to make the artwork you want to pivot into a Custom Brush , then set the pivot point on the Custom Brush (Handle > Custom) , then use the Custom Brush as your SOURCE image in the KeyFramer (the pivot point on the Custom Brush will be retained when you use it as your source image in the KeyFramer). I made a little tutorial on how to do that, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp-tXmZqqrZ8j9E (no voiceover instructions , but click the CC to turn on the Captions to see text instructions).

Micah Buzan I’m not sure if you’ve done this but I’ve always wondered how to transition from story board to actual animation. I’ve always just done it on a separate layer then animated over it to make sure the audio is synced. Also maybe you can do more with cameras. Sometimes I don’t want the camera to pan but instead just have it jump to a spot. Thank you for great content!

Thanks! This is most helpful! But I only seem to be able to pan across static images. Maybe this is a stupid question but how do you pan the camera with static images AND animated layers simultaneously, like the water streams in the beginning of the video? Is there a lock-on function or something?
@david_t_nethery_animator3 жыл бұрын
Dr. Acid, I hope you found your answer , but if anyone is still interested in "how do you pan the camera with static images AND animated layers simultaneously like the water streams in the beginning of the video?" here is how to do that: The animation layer (for example, a stream or river with flowing water animation) is animated as normal over the still background image. Now to add a move using the Keyframer (say the camera moving from left-to-right , across the background) you should turn off the original background and animation layers, then make a new blank layer of the duration you want the scene to last (let's say 300 frames for this example). Now open the FX Stack, go to Motion > KeyFramer, and in the Keyframes Source tab set the Source to your Background layer (background layer only, not the animation layer of the water) , then set your keyframes to show the movement over the background going from left-to-right (or right-to-left or zooming-in in the Z layer, whatever). After you are satisfied with the movement on the background go to the FX Bin (upper right corner of the FX Stack window) and click on the FX Bin > Add > and add the FX coordinates you just set up to the Bin. (you will be asked to name it , so give it an appropriate name for the scene , like SC_001_BG_move or what have you ... ) Now that move is saved in the FX Bin and can be reapplied to another layer. Select all frames on your new blank layer and click on Apply FX Stack to render the move to your new blank layer. Next, create a new blank layer over top of the layer with the background move. Stretch it out to the same duration as the BG layer (in this case, 300 frames). Now open the FX Stack again and go to KeyFramer. Click on the FX Bin and select your saved FX from previously (SC_001_BG_move or whatever you named it) and change the Source to the Water Animation Layer. Only the source has changed in this case, but the move coordinates (X Y Z ) will be identical. So now you can apply that exact same move to the Water Animation layer and it will match up to the move on the Background layer underneath it.

Hello, thanks for the video! I was wondering if it is possible to do this but with a background that contains elements of movement/animation? (instead of a still/unchanging background?) Would really appreciate your experience on whether this is possible. Thank you

This is probably my favorite video in all of KZbin right now. The official TVPaint tutorials leave out the pressing the hold button, selecting all images, and applying the FX Stack to those selected images. My question is, once you complete a "shot" of a project, is there a way to assemble the entire project(multiple camera angles and shots) into one timeline and export it from the TVPaint program, or do the individual shots have to be assembled in an external video editing software?
@MicahBuzanANIMATION6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! So happy to hear you're finding it useful. I'm still learning how to do new things on TVPaint myself. Right, for exporting scenes I export the movie under "File" "Export To" and I select it as an AVI, select the starting and ending frame of the scene, and composite all the clips externally in Final Cut Pro.
@MrBongers3 жыл бұрын
"is there a way to assemble the entire project(multiple camera angles and shots) into one timeline and export it from the TVPaint program?" --- Yes, if you have TVPaint 11 PRO , which has the Project/Clips view, which allows for assembling multiple clips in sequential order (like for building an animatic) which can then be exported to composite MOV , AVI , or MP4 file. But you can also have each shot in it's own separate TVPaint project and just export each individual shot as a MOV , AVI , or MP4 and then assemble the individual clips in an external editing software like Premiere or Final Cut as Micah Buzan mentioned in his reply. Either way works.

I love this program but this is the most round about way of getting a panning background! Even photoshop can pan an image in a couple clicks and it's terrible to animate in... I think I'll just use premiere to pan the image then import it to tvpaint as footage. Done.
@MicahBuzanANIMATION3 жыл бұрын
I hear you. There is a multiplane camera function in TVPaint but I still have no idea how to use it lol. So invented my own method

@@MicahBuzanANIMATION That's the good thing about TVPaint, there is always a work around! Nice one. Just to clarify, you can't bring a larger image into a smaller size scene and manually pan it by keyframing?
