Yes depending on the settings you set up in the movie choices. I am now field testing the Nikon P1000 with that 4,000mm lens built in and as it is impossible use it by hand at those extreme setting, (and that f8 is of no help) I use my Nikon B700 for any 1440mm shots instead of the FZ2000 or the P1000. It all boils down to what you choose to put up with in the extreme range of built in lenses Moon Man, Flick C.

Thanks Flick for all your insight to the FZ2000. I noticed that you are saying That there is no image degradation while using the SuperZoom. I would like to draw your attention page 146 of the manual regarding Digital Zoom. Here is a quote from that page: "Although the image quality deteriorates every time you zoom in further, you can zoom in up to four times the original zoom magnification."

I agree Richard, but I was sort of poking fun at that part which I only read out in part, about it saying there would be NO degradation. I should perhaps have been more clear on this as Richard mentioned above, as not everyone is experienced in these matters. I only wanted to show new comers where the settings were, and how to use them. Sorry. The manual also states "You can also zoom into twice the original zoom magnification while minimising the deterioration of the image" They did not say you would not get any. It also states "Although the image quality deteriorates every time you zoom in further, you can zoom into 4 times the the original zoom magnification." Of course it has to be there, as "Ye cannae alter the laws of nature Cap'n" LOL I just thought everyone would hear me sort of be amused at saying "No degradation of the image". I should also mention to newcomers to digital photography, that cropping images also gives this, but I also mention in the written part (As a tripod user I can say apart from the very corners of my images, I saw very little at all, and none at all in my movies, but it all depends on the settings you are using as to what you get. Always do your own test 1st.) and that apart from the corner edges "I" notice very little degradation. It is there, but by using 4K, and sharpening it up in post, it is excellent in a movie situation. Anytime one uses digital zoom, or as I do, even uses a UV or any other glass lens protection filter, on the front of any lens, the end result must suffer some degradation. I can live very well with what this particular camera gives me in my 4K movies. And as I suggested, do your own tests. As it boils down to what YOU like, and it is YOUR visual perception which counts.

Yes, if you wish. There are very few hard and fast rules in photography nor videography. I have a UV which cost me an arm and 2 legs, and I leave it on my FZ2000, as the amount of degradation it causes me I cannot see, in still images nor HD never mind 4K videos :-) BUT I would sooner smash a cheap UV than the lens. I have many lenses with UV protection filters on when I am shooting outdoors. In a studio it matters slightly less of course, as the camera is usually on a firm mounting. Outdoors it is a different matter, but it is always your own choice. I have never had a broken lens glass, "TheVedicObserver" and only once in memory, a broken filter (but the lens survived unscathed. It does NOT guarantee the 100% safety of the lens, as I once tripped on some rocks, fell over, and smashed the lens completely off my FZ1000 ! There is no accounting for my own stupidity LOL. :-) An old Gaelic saying springs to mind that sort of covers this situation, and gets me off the hook. I have just bought last week a Pro II Multi-Coating C-Polarizer Filter from a brand called Haida...which costed me about 40 Euro...so, I'll take your advice into consideration...in case I ever need to take a very special picture...I'll remove it ...and put it back later on...

LOL TheVedicObserver. I do the self same thing by removing the filter when required, and keeping my fingers crossed. My wee secret: I seldom use the ND filters, which are built in to the FZ2000, as I prefer a variable ND filter, with a rubber lens hood fitted for shooting my videos. I then can control everything I can see on my screen or in the viewfinder. Light, aperture, speed, the amount of daylight, or to create darkness where there is none. The ins and outs of why I like this sort of "control" do not matter, as my point is, I remove my UV to fit yet another filter. ha haaaa. ENJOY YOUR FZ2000 my friend. :-)

On Pg 196 of the Manual it says for aspect ratio of 3:2 (35mm film) you can only use extended zoom when set to M, or 10MP, 3888x2592 or S, or 5MP, 2736x1824. So that is half the size of the L, or 20MP, 5472x3648. So the image quality has already been theoretically halved. The on screen zoom indicator shows 24 to 680 to 1350mm So at normal zoom it goes from 24 to 680mm and for intelligent zoom from 681 to 1350 but only for 10MP size images. Still pretty good. I will have to take some shots using those ranges and see what the birds look like.

Hi again 007. Sorry for so long in answering. Health problems cropped up here, due to me being an old fuddy duddy LOL You are correct in what you say, but due to age and health issues here, I can no longer hand hold any large lens or an extended lens. I can when on a tripod, but again due to my restrictions, I cannot hump one around too far, so am inclined to hand hold and shoot 4K videos of everything . Then any still I require, I lift from any one frame when editing on mu PC, which is more than a enough size wise for my own requirements. You may be young and fit in comparison to me, and therefore can get away with much more than I can. I hope you are enjoying the FZ2000 too, anyway you use it :-) Keep on keeping on.

Thanks for your reply and no need to apologize at all as I was sorry to hear you have had some health issues. Your video series on the FZ2000/2500 are very very helpful to lots of people, me included. It is such a big learning curve and complicated all the more with trying to work out the best way to view the video results. Actually I am somewhere near your seniority I think (retired a few years) and originally from Norfolk but now in Australia with two boys over 11 involved in sports where the camera is frequently used for stills and video. I am enjoying the camera very much and the quality of the HD video put on a USB thumb drive and onto a UHD TV is extremely good. I expanded on that in one of your last videos on this camera - having to convert .MOV to .mkv for both the TV and the BluRay player (via USB) to play the audio. I will also have to experiment with some 4K to see how that goes too. Yes, keep on keeping on.

I tried to set my camera the way you have yours to get the 2700mm but it only goes to 1920mm. I noticed you have the long Sharon NR turned on but mine is blacked out. Do I need this function turned on to access the 2700mm?
