TVS Opening Jingle Wednesday December 1987

TVS Jingle found on the end of one of my Betamax tape - the TV AM December clips.

TVS was one of the best ITV company.

Christopher Robbie was (alongside the late Brian Nissen and Verity Martindill) one of only a few announcers who made the move from Southern to TVS. Verity didn’t stay too long. Brian remained at TVS until in vision continuity ended in 1987 and Christopher stayed until very late 1987/early 1988 (as he was on duty on Christmas Day 1987 - as seen on TV Ark).

It seems like TVS had only just updated their on-screen logo to say 'Television South' later in 1987, which announcers had generally been referring to it as for a couple of years, only for the company's reorganisation to mean 'TVS' was the catchy term of choice again.

Ah, tremendous. What a competent and dignified sounding welcome - and yet not at all stuffy or jarring after that upbeat soundtrack (not sure Philip Elsmore would have managed it quite as well!). And it was all going so well, until he said "whence" (from where) instead of "whither" (to where)... :D

@@revinhatolThe Central ident was still around in 1988. They used the Generic 1989 ident first with the Dundas theme and then with their own. The Carlton idents didn’t come about until the early 00’s.
