The TVS Logo and idents still stand up well today. They were so well put together that they wouldn't look out of place on TV today

The changes that happened post early 90's compared to the setup of ITV companies up to then really was criminal - there was so much talent and flair of ITV region broadcasters that easily matched any slick American tv broadcasting as all of these TVS archive show and would still hold up even now in terms of its graphics, theme music etc. being memorable and actually meaning something! Just sad how so much was lost of from the course of events that ripped up how great the ITV setup of broadcasters once was.

I don't recall any of those promos and I lived in the region, I do know that TVS was one of the stations to stick the middle finger up at the 1989 "Get Ready" Generic Ident though. The only time we heard the Dundas theme was either in promos or for the ITV Weather broadcast.

I remember how sad I felt when they lost their franchise. They were too much of an individual unique entity to be part of the ITV network, they did not need the ITV network and retained their identity throughout, whilst other franchises accepted at an early stage the transition into what we have today, one single entity ITV. Which sucks. Sadly for them some over ambitious business decisions in the end did leave them on the brink of financial collapse anyway. RIP TVS you were the best truly local station anyone could have ever hoped for!

Agreed. TVS was a great company. I had family on the South Coast and always enjoyed watching TVS. Scottish TV took over some of the TVS programmes in 1993.

Southern and TVS were good franchises.

@John Adam: Sadly their back catalogue of programming now belongs to Disney and due to some distribution rights issues, Disney have not put many of the catalogue on to DVD 😡😥

@@jane1975 Yes sadly too there of course that is right. TVS did some great network ITV series whilst they were on air. The Ruth Rendell Mysteries with George Baker as Inspector Wexford we liked seeing here then. As good as Bergerac on BBC1 or Inspector Morse, also on ITV at the time in our view. CATS Eyes with Jill Gascoine after The Gentle Touch, also on ITV, although that was made by LWT so too. Perfect Scoundrels with Peter Bowles, amongst the dramas they did. That's Love which was a comedy series they did. Ultra Quiz was a show they did too. I think Michael Rodd who had been on the BBC before of course did a series with them too as part of their factual ones. I am sure there are others so too. Thank you!

The 1989 edit of the Coast to Coast titles were presumably an analogue job, mixing the new ident so it would flow into the existing theme tune. Interesting how different the final note ended up in the two versions (with space for 3 and 4 headlines respectively) - compare 9:51 and 10:37... I prefer the latter one: more bass to complement the euphoric higher notes, not that that's necessarily the effect you always want to achieve in a set of regional news titles...

Such a shame TVS lost its franchise, seemed like a great company and ITV station back in the day. I was born a month after it was announced TVS lost it's franchise, Meridian was rubbish compared to TVS. Still nice to see that the studios in Maidstone are still in operation to this day just sadly loads of houses built in front of it on the car park site but least it's still standing unlike the Southampton site.
