TVXQ, my ultimate of all ultimate favorite K-pop groups. They were arguably the biggest K-pop group that existed during their time. 2nd gen was dominated by them and Big Bang. Then Super Junior, SHINee, 2PM, etc. came after. TVXQ was able to break through to the Japanese market, which paved the way for all the other K-pop groups to be able to promote there. Also, literally every other group after them has covered Mirotic at least once in their careers. LOL They're amazing singers, dancers, and overall performers. They debuted as an acapella group, actually! They loved to do 5-part harmonies. They did power ballads and yet did ridiculously difficult dance songs as well. I dare say, nobody else in SM has yet to top them as performers, whether as 5 or as 2, and yes, I say that even as a fan of SHINee, EXO, and NCT. Also, Mirotic is such an iconic song, that whenever TVXQ performs it in any joint concert like SM Town, even if the audience is dominated by fans of other groups, that whole stadium would be cheering and chanting for that song like no other. It's really that bitch of a song.

The "yeah yeah" guy is Jaejoong (Hero) and the frontman Simon was speaking on is Yunho (U-Know). Jaejoong is one of the 3 that left unfortunately and Yunho was and still is the Leader of TVXQ. Ugly haircut guy we don't speak on much as he has been in trouble over the years. Yoochun (Mickey). You know power vocal Changmin (Max) and the last which is my bias is Junsu (Xia) with the beautiful falsetto voice.

TVXQ ( also DBSK or Thoshinki in japanese) are my first love in kpop. The guys are Jaejoong, Junsu, Yoochun, Yunho and Changmin (maknae. The first 3 sue SM and left it in 2009-2010. Yunho and Changmin stayed in SM under the name TVXQ. All five are amazing artists and admired for young groups. I highly recommend their KIlling voice, it’s just Yunho and Changmin but is AMAZING.

TVXQ what legends. TVXQ and BoA really kicked the door down to the Japanese market for kpop which was a major important milestone. Though they have only been active as a duo since the split of members in 2009, TVXQ have been serving us amazing music for 20 years. Definitely should check out a more recent song to see them in their current form. The members that left also had success as JYJ even with the blacklisting SM did to them.

TVXQ's Killing Voice is a MUST WATCH, It's absolutely incredible. They just had their 20th anniversary last year, big big dogs in the game even if they're not at the forefront of kpop anymore. The other 3 members (JYJ) were blacklisted from tv following their exit from the group and havent appeared on tv for about 15years. Recently though, 2 of the members are reported to start appearing on shows this month. So thats amazing!!!

SM's remastering project is fantastic IMO. They're going slowly, but already have close to 60 remastered MVs up. They're mostly focusing on the really old songs, 1st gen and early 2nd gen which didn't have any official MVs on youtube. Just a few later (popular) MVs per 2nd gen group got an upgrade. So they've remastered a bunch of TVXQ, but mostly from 2004-2005. I expect they'll get to Mirotic soon becuase it's such a big hit and still has such a potato quality video. If you want some remastered TVXQ, I recommend their debut (Hug) and the one you saw recommended at the end (Rising Sun).

The guy at 8:30 is Junsu and he was definitely popular, at one point he had the most fancafe members out of any idol. Unfortunately after the split the three members struggled a lot because sm blacklisted them but Junsu is still very well known in musical theater and has released multiple solo albums. He is my personal favorite male vocalist and pretty much every 3rd gen boygroup has at least one member that says they became an idol because they looked up to him.

TVXQ is literally the standard for SM groups in terms of vocals and performance quality. They led the kpop wave over to Japan and Asia. Their influence is huge in kpop. U-Know used to be known for giving huge lectures after SM groups perform to give them tips. TVXQ & SuJu really looked after all SM groups as the big brothers they are. Fun fact since you're an NCT fan. 5Dream (Mark, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, and Jisung) during their trainee days were known as baby-TVXQ because of their massive potential as idols.

TVXQ actually started 2nd Gen at the end of 2003. They were one of the biggest boy groups tbh especially before the split. After the split in 2009/2010 their popularity was split between JYJ (the former members) and TVXQ. It was a messy messy split and left both the public and fans taking sides. Either way TVXQ (and BoA) did start making kpop popular in Japan and more internationally. And yes please watch their Killing Voice! They do a lot of songs from both before and after the split and I find it interesting how they make it work, since Max and Yunho were never the best vocalist in the groups but to see how much they improved (especially Yunho) is amazing and such a proud moment I have 😊🎈 Also their fandom is named the Cassiopeia or just Cassies and were in the world record books for biggest fandom back in the day (for signed paid memberships). And TVXQ ( Chinese name) is also called Tohoshinki (Japanese) and DBSK (their Korean name). I would recommend RISING SUN for before the split and either Keep Your Head Down or Down for after the split.

TVXQ's "Mirotic," which came out in 2008, is a classic in the Kpop industry and every new rookie group -- both boy groups and girl groups -- learn this song and choreography and almost every rookie has performed it on music programs, award shows, at showcases, etc. at least once in their career. This song, like SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong," Girls' Generation's "Gee" and Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry," etc. is pretty much compulsory for everyone in the entertainment industry to know and learn the song and dance to. "Mirotic" is a made up word that really has no meaning, but it is derived from a play on the word Miro + tic -- "Miro" (Milo) in Korean means Maze, but they thought the word sounded better if you added tic to the end of it, (it made it sound cooler, or something.) Think of it as the words mirror and errotic combined -- that's just how you pronounce the title, not the meaning of the word. In the MV for "Mirotic" the woman is supposed to be a siren, like from Greek mythology, and she is tempting and trapping or luring the TVXQ members to her. Their minds are trapped like in a maze, etc. Like they say in the song "... I got you under my skin ..." But in the end you see how the members have broke free from her control. (Often in Greek mythology the siren, through her intoxicating love powers, lures guys to their deaths.) And in Korean the title I think could be translated to mean Spell or Magic Spell, because the woman has them "under her spell," etc. TVXQ truly are all-time legends in the music industry. As an SM Entertainment group, it's no surprise that they are outstanding vocalists. TVXQ was originally supposed to be a purely acapella group, so they all have amazing vocals. They actually have several acapella performances in their early days that really showcase how amazing they were as vocalists. TVXQ is one of the reasons why SM is known as a vocal powerhouse and why the company has come to be known for having some of the best dancers and vocalists in the industry. Just check out TVXQ's Killing Voice performance to see what I mean. TVXQ's fandom is Cassiopeia and their fan color is pearl red -- which is why you see one of the primary colors in most of TVXQ's MVs is red -- and when you attend a TVXQ concert you will see an ocean of red. Therefore, if you look up the lyrics for "Mirotic" you will see the "red ocean" they are referencing has a double meaning -- The "red" ocean is what the siren is trying to capture the TVXQ member in and she is trying to use her powers to capture and control them (red is often used to represent a powerful force) and it's also referring to the "red ocean" of their fans. Welcome to the Cassiopeia fandom. (Their fandom is named after the 5-starred constellation, Cassiopeia, because they originally were 5 members who were supposed to be gods who came from the stars.) If you like TVXQ then you are a Cassi. (In Japan their fans are called BigEast because Tohoshinki are Gods of the East and they have one of the largest fandoms.) Here is some background to help you understand the dynamics of TVXQ better. TVXQ (English and Chinese)/DBSK (Korean)/ Tohoshinki (Japanese), which each are the abbreviations/acronyms of the words in each language that translates to mean "Rising Gods of the East," debuted in 2003 as a 5 member group. But, in 2010 three of their members left SM Entertainment and the group and formed a new group called JYJ -- the initials of the members: Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong. (Up until recently, JYJ was still a group and they still produced music, but because they left SM Entertainment -- one of the most powerful and influential companies in the industry -- on less than ideal terms, it has made it more difficult for them to promote themselves and their music. So the members of JYJ are more known as actors and producers than they are as singers now.) However, Max/Changmin and U-Know/Yunho continued as TVXQ as a duo. The day after Christmas will be TVXQ/DBSK/Tohoshinki's 21st anniversary, and even now as a duo they are so talented that they have the vocal range to cover all the parts of a song between the two of them, including rap. Changmin (the youngest member) was 15 and U-Know was 17 years old when they debuted. Although they are one of the senior Kpop groups, Changmin is only 36 and U-Know is 38. TVXQ is SM's most senior group that is still active, but U-Know and Changmin are still younger than, or the same age as, many of the members of the legendary groups who came after them within their generation. They are best friends with Super Junior and they pretty much all grew up together. Changmin is also best friends with Minho from SHINee. And Xiumin from EXO says Changmin was one of the reason why he auditioned for SM because he wanted to meet Changmin and become like him. As you heard, Changmin is known for his powerful high notes -- even more powerful than Onew or Jonghyun from SHINee or Chen and Baekhyun from EXO -- he literally has one of the widest note ranges of almost any Kpop artist. In a high note battle he always wins. It wouldn't be a TVXQ/Changmin song if we didn't get to hear at least one unbelievable high note from him. (Fun fact: Changmin got married in 2020 and he became a father to a boy in 2022.) U-Know is known for his dancing and his passion for dancing and singing. He is also the rapper of the group. (U-Know truly loves what he does and doesn't hide it. He will tell you he is proud of his accomplishments and he is proud of his work. His off-the-charts passion and intensity is kind of a running joke within the industry. It's one of the things he is most known for.) The funny thing is personality-wise, Changmin and U-Know are complete opposites in almost every way. Changmin is quiet, calm and level headed and prefers to be alone; and U-Know is loud, high energy, intense and prefers to be with a group of people. Tohoshinki (TVXQ) are one of the most famous singers in Japan as well, even among Japanese artists. And like SHINee and BoA, etc., they are so popular in Japan that they are considered part of the mainstream music scene. TVXQ has one of the biggest worldwide fan bases and they sell out some of the largest concert venues in the world. They are one of SM Entertainment's top selling groups, easily selling out concert tours around the world.

Finally, the iconic Mirotic. I'm glad you guys chose this song for an introduction the TVXQ. I first checked it because of Exo-K and Exo-M covering it as rookies. Then I realized that I've actually heard this song in childhood but couldn't remember it. TVXQ are the first group whose vocals extremely fascinated me after Exo. I can safely say they are the only group I can place above Exo if the situation requires it when it comes to choosing the best vocals as a group. Have fun right enjoying this group. Since you guys are checking it iconic songs then I'd also recommend Sorry Sorry by Super Junior and Haru Haru by Big Bang. These 3 songs are legendary from 2nd generation of kpop, in the same way Growl is legendary in 3rd generation.

Mirotic is a word that TVXQ member Jaejoong made up. “Miro” means “maze” in Korean then they just added the “tic” to make it sound like an adjective. That’s as far as I can remember it meant. The Korean title of the song is 주문, which means “spell” because the song is about being under a woman’s spell then eventually getting her under their spell. I personally think that mirotic is the same maze that Exo were trapped in Overdose and Lucky One mv. There's even many similar scenes in Lucky One (like the glass tube), Wolf, Growl and Electric Kiss which suggests that. I seriously love the SM storylines ❤

I understand why you didn't include EXO or NCT in this, but is there a reason you didn't do H.O.T.? I don't know them well, but afaik they were like the first K-pop group ever and they were under SM. Just curious!

It’s a video about tvxq … not h.o.t or shinhwa and such. They can put those ones in a separate video

@@turandot_of_the_opera I was talking about including them in the "SM Boys Dynasty" series, not randomly putting other groups in the same video.

can you also do junsu’s ( the guy you called popular in this MV) killing voice as well? his is listed under the stage name “Xia”. he’s starred in a lot of musicals lately, so his voice has developed a lot since mirotic

TVXQ (5 member) is my only KPop idol. Mirotic is my most favorite song, and then Bolero.

Jaejoong is the yeah yeah guy to me he is a god he’s also the ten plate for a lot of SM idols that came after. You just have to look at Taeyong from NCT to see the resemblance. SM never got over losing him and if you see his solo work you would no way he can rock

Can I share some personal analysis.. Don't know why I think SM will mistreat groups that have "X" on their group name. Like : TVXQ, TraxX, f(X), EXO. 🫠

TVXQ - if all 5 members had stayed... they would still be on top. Not that the 2 remaining don't still slay. But the ot5 are arguably the best there has ever been.
