@@CardboardBots you see a single Japanese commercial, you’ll never forget; the pronunciation is as infectious as the Scraplets. OP is mostly correct with the accent, as it’s “ta-KA-ra”, with all “a” sounds sounding like the “o” in “Optimus”. And Tomy is “to-mee”, with the “to” sounding like the toe on your foot, and “me” as the word used to refer to yourself. But “me” has a longer E, as the katakana is written トミー. That means “to-me-ee”, but it’s really just two syllables with the “e” sound lasting for an extra beat. Again, just watch a Takara Tomy commercial and you’ll hear it.

Despite the ball-joints and frustrating transformation, Toyworld Bii's transformation takes the cake over MP-45; every part is being used, the silhouette and surface details in every angle/s is clean and shown proudly that he turns into a car, unlike the latter who is only containing it like a burden for a messy attempt at """cartoon accuracy""".

The transformation isn’t that horrible to do in-person, but the Spike gimmick absolutely wasn’t worth it. Getting him to squeeze inside and precariously balance on his little heels while you tab in the hood is just not fun. As for the kibble, I honestly got used to it; then again, I tend to be a bit more forgiving of kibble than others.

I feel like they could have struck a middle ground in proportions between a cartoon and real world Beetle for MP45. If someone just took a normal Beetle and halfway compressed it towards the toon proportions, it would give the toy enough mass to play around with. Honestly, MP21's biggest sins are his head, the detailing of the limbs and how weedy they are (made worse by how *wide* the chest is, through the chest itself is otherwise really close. Bee's bubble chest is actually that distinct on his cartoon module, and not the flat plank of MP45), and the color (which was always alleged to be a strict requirement from Volkswagen, though MP45 getting it right is odd if that's true). BUT MY CARTOON ACCURACY

I'll take it under advisement. You bring up some excellent points. In defense of this thumbnail, I would argue that it is factual. First: Hasbro, or any company, doesn't want you to buy a competitor's product. Second: Hasbro, or any other intellectual property owner, doesn't want you to buy a product that infringes on their property. I think those those are safe assumptions to make. As for the G1 Vintage Bumblebee reissue, please allow me to defend it. My main thrust is that the toy does not represent a robot that turns into a real world car... say the same way that Sideswipe is supposed to transform into a Lamborghini car. Rather, it represents the idea of a robot turning into a TOY car. The toy car that G1 bumblebee is based on is a stylized approximation of a VW Beetle. I argue that it's visually distinct enough that it likely doesn't require permission from VW. The original toys sold in the 1980s in Japan or elsewhere do not bear any markings that they were made with the permission of VW or operate under any sort of licensing from them. I speculate that either no licensing was required due to laws at the time, that it could have been argued that they are distinct enough as to not infringe, or that Takara/Hasbro simply didn't care and willfully didn't pursue a licence agreement. I think we can all agree that the G1 bumble toy takes heavy inspiration from a VW beetle and is meant to resemble one. That does not mean that it IS a VW beetle. That Hasbro/ Takara and Volkswagen have, in more recent times, entered into a license agreement does not retroactively make the original Bumblebee toy design a VW... unless that is part of their acknowledged agreement. (It is unlikely that we will ever know the details of a confidential agreement between private entities.) I do appreciate your abhorrence of click-baity thumbnails. I share them too. My goal is to get people into the video, into the story that I am telling. Let them take it all in and make an assessment. Des my videos' arguments support my thumbnail claims or not? You are free to disagree and I am happy that you disagree and let me know. If you think this way and are willing to talk about, there are likely many others who feel the same way, but don't let themselves be known. I often wonder where the line ought to be drawn in my thumbnails. What is factual versus fraud? What is inviting versus what is sensational? I can't make all the points I want to make about a subject on a video thumbnail. The video has to do that. The thumbnail is effectively a headline. It's meant to bring people into what I've written. Into the themes that I'm exploring. I think a good toy review should be MORE than toy good or toy bad. I think a review can have a larger IDEA behind it and can CHALLENGE the viewer. I think a video should inspire discussion and likewise be challenged by the audience. I think your point about click-bait thumbnails, and these thumbnails in particular, has merit. It's a vald point and it hurts my ego somewhat because I recognize the kernel of truth that's in them. So I am taking your criticism to heart and I will reflect on it. Do you think a thumbnail can be click-baity, misleading, but still be true? What do other folks think? Have my thumbnails joined the dark side?

@@CardboardBots That’s like saying water is deadly because drinking too much of it will kill you. Just because you’re “correct” doesn’t mean it’s not misleading. The thumbnail “Hasbro does not want you to have this” makes it out to be a big deal. You don’t know why it is, but you assume that the figure in question made Hasbro so “scared” of the figure that it actively does not want anyone to know about it, only for you to find out that it’s just a normal figure made by a different company. Of course Hasbro doesn’t want you to buy transforming figures from other companies, since they also sell those. But the fact that you put a greater emphasis on that specific figure makes it out to be a big deal and so makes the viewer want to watch the video. The other thumbnail, “this is not a beetle”, makes the viewer think that the original 1984 bumblebee figure (more accurately the Microchange “penny racer” toy) was not meant to look like a Volkswagen Beetle, but rather an entirely different car. But instead of that, you say that it’s based off a small penny racer toy from the 80s that LOOKS like a Volkswagen beetle, even though it clearly was made to look like one. And while it wasn’t actually a licensed WV Beetle, it’s still meant to be that car. Long story short, all I'm saying is that you’re basically “tricking” your audience into watching your video, and then justifying yourself by giving an answer to the question in the thumbnail that people didn’t want. All I'm saying is to just stop doing it. I have nothing against you, just your thumbnails. Hope you understand.

Yeah... the bayverse movies are not exactly kid-friendly, they are more teen-boy, power fantasy. The stand-alone Bumblebee movie was the most kid friendly out of all of them. Less brutal. That being said, Bee is usually always used as the character to introduce the younger human element to the alien robots.

I sadly have the glyph version of this, which, yes, looks great, but sadly is made mostly out of painted clear plastic, so those clearance issues caused several parts to break, which sucks cause I actually liked this figure. 🥲

Try using some floorwax to tighten the loose joints.

It's not a regular style ball socket on the ankle, and wouldn't work. That solution would work for the shoulders and thighs if they were loose, but not the ankles.

Funny you made this video after I was just thinking about tracking this one down myself, I always preferred the visual aesthetic in bot mode of this guy over MP21, and even though he came out around the time of the Masterpiece I feel as though it was meant to fit in with the Classics/Universe2.0 line rather than the Masterpiece line.

I have the first masterpeice Bee, the Goldbug variant. Im not a huge fan of Bumblebee, but its one of my favorite transformers. Its enjoyable to transform and has great robot and vehicle modes. The newer masterpeice is kind of garbage, Id take toyworld Bii over him any day.

This is still my MP Bumblebee. IMO he beats the brakes off both the official attempts. I'm not a toon purist by any stretch but Biis bot mode is fantastic. Edit: I used nailpolish to tighten the ankles on mine like a decade ago and he can still stand fine.

@@CardboardBots Yes clear nail polish. For smaller jobs I use Kiki, but in my experience nothing fixes a ball joint like nail polish. Pop it off the peg, polish the ball and the socket. Let it cure for 24 hours. Admittedly I don't handle this guy a ton, but it's been like 10 years and his ankles are still rock solid. FYI I have NEVER transformed him without that back panel popping off and it's a pain to get back on. I really like the figure, as well as their version of Kupp. He's not as good as Bii, but I prefer him to the Fanstoys. Just no excuse for a huge backpack on a character that turns into half a truck... TW had some really fun older figures. I see a lot of their design elements copied. Like Orion and Siege Prime. Also that legends Bumblebee that's basically a downsized simplified version of Bii.

When the first bumblebee came out for masterpiece the design aesthetic was a mixture between Toy and Anime. So you complaining about it being the wrong color yellow doesn’t really matter because they were not going for the pure anime yellow.

Yeah, I understand their design goals back then you are correct. I would point out that they did recolor MP-10 for the North American market. They gave him a darker blue in Japan and went with a lighter blue in NA, closer to the anime. I'm not sure if they adjusted thed red at all. They also changed the colour of Roller for the NA market to be closer to the audience's cartoon expectations. They could have easily made a lemon yellow version of Bee and satisfied a huge group of buyers. They may have even really wanted to. My main thrust is that they were constrained by the requirements set out by Volkswagen. So their decision in this case was less about going for a realistic car mode, and more about keeping VW happy to be able to do the car mode.

Scale .. I find scale of the toys are ridiculously crazy U put the average cars next to prime or a bee next to a jaz or sideswipe.. the scaling is terrible

I'm glad I could help. I practiced a lot and watched a bunch of videos to make the transformation seem effortless. I don't think you'll fine much success with tightening the ankle ball pegs. They ball pegs is held in place by two partial cavities with a gap all around. The disassembly and assembly is easy to do, but the overall design of the joint provides very little mechanic friction. It will never pop out, but likewise, I don't think think these can really be firmed up. They are designed to create movement. No harm in trying it out. Let us know how it goes.

I have the Gold Bii, wish I had the regular one. I think this would make a better mp bee than both the current of the head were different. On a side note, mp Bee’s hands are closed fists too. That’s said, I like both . I’m torn between the new cartoon aesthetic mp is currently going for and the original style mp had.Good vid, good figure, glad I spent my break here 😊

Thanks for making my vid part of your break. I've seen photos where people replaced the hands with articulated hands. This design could definitely be revisited with a better head, hands, gun, and ankles if a company decided to do it. I don't think they would though.

I totally, 100% agree! The only G1 character they bothered to get right was Optimus Prime. They totally F'ed up every other G1 character. But now they are getting all the Beast Wars characters right. The live-action movies make me sick. I supported them up to The Last Knight but not anymore. Age Of Extinction is my favorite but overall I hate them. I saw all the new ROTB toys in stores & I am shocked at how horrible & cheap they are. I was seriously shocked! They look as cheap as a toy you'd get at a gas station. I don't know WTF is going on with Hasbro but I had to quit collecting Transformers.
