The reason people do the “best x character player” versus “best player who plays x character” distinction is because we start to lose what people are asking for. If we don’t make the distinction, There was a point in time leo would have then just been the best player for 1/8th of the roster at a minimum because he was just better. Even now we would lose things. If someone asks for the best piranha plant olayer, people normally say lucky but if we’re going to talk about it that way the answer is sparg0 even though he likely will never use it in a bracket where he isn’t trolling.

Lowkey i think the saying they were talking about makes perfect sense lol. Like if someone dedicates their entire life to labbing a single character like Marth, chances are they will know more about the nuances of the character than Leo. Even if that person ends up being a top 30 player, chances are you would still expect Leo to do better with Marth vs other top players, even if he has signifciantly less tech and matchup experience because he is a fundamentally better player. Personally, in this situation this still makes Leo the best Marth regardless, but i can see where people are going with the idea

Smash 4 patches were way better than Ultimate patches. It's not even a contest. I was very disappointed in the patches in Ultimate. They didn't even try! To make huge changes. So many bugs left in the game and other issues. It's so sad that they half-assed the patches this game.

I always thought the saying "he's a better solo __" came from the fact that we just don't know how a lot of counter-pickers would do if they just stuck to that character. Leo might beat Protobanham with Rob, but does Leo counterpicking Protobanham with Rob mean he is the best Rob if Zomba can't beat him? Solo mains tend to be more consistent throughout the bracket with that character and I think that means a lot in the argument. I don't think it's as ridiculous as you guys are making it out to be. lol

As someone who played Cloud in smash 4 and alot in Ult as well, one thing Cloud players dont abuse that could work well in the Sonic mu and very defensive playstyles in general is Limit camping. Its one of the more powerful anti meta tools he has that can control the flow of a match. People just usually arent willing to just back up and force approaches with Limit because it feels kinda lame. But in this meta, you gotta go in the trenches lol. Good episode though.
