I think the Sgt Major in this video is the same actor who played a Brit senior NCO on COMBAT! It was the double episode where Saunders and his men were commanded by the Brit Captain (not sure of the rank) to stay with them. They are attacked again and again by the Germans and then oddly enough the Germans who had been attacking them surrender to Saunders. The Brit commander was dead by then.

B-17s did not fly at night nor did they drop British Commandos. The British would have marked this night target with flares from pathfinder Mosquitos and pasted it with high explosive from 600 Lancasters. They carried a much larger payload than a B-17. I was very disappointed that the video on the original DVD is also damaged. Does anyone know where I can get an undamaged copy pf this episode? When I was a kid I watched this series and all the re-runs I could find on TV. The original combat footage was simply incredible and they had a large fleet of aircraft to film the series. Anyway I would like to get to watch this episode without youtube access. The DVD encoding always fails at 70.2 MB and on my set of DVDs it is on Disc 5 track 13. There is no media error the raw video is truncated. Thanks, kindly

I know this is totally Monday morning quarterbacking but wouldn't have been helpful to have had some kind of steel plating that you could slide back and forth alongside the right and left side cockpit windshields, just for when flak or enemy fighters would be a problem? It seems every episode a pilot is either severely wounded or killed by such attacks. Seems like movable steel plating could have reduced some of the casaulties. Just a thought.

The idea that a B-17 would drop commandoes at night over Germany is a fiction. British commandos were trained in the British jump method and were flown by British transports with special jump openings in the belly of the plane, designed like smooth funnels. A B-17 bomb bay has too many projections to allow jumpers with the bulky backpacks to get through without catching on to something. Commandos jumping with only something like a reserve chute is unthinkable. Just sayin'.
