Class 9?? 🤷‍♂️ is this specifically a rafting classification? Thought it only went to 7 and 7 was unrun able? Lava falls is a class 4/5 rapid.

Rapids are traditionally rated 1-6, with 6 being unrunnable. The Grand Canyon has it's own rating system for some reason, 1-10, with 10 being unrunnable. There is only one class 9 in the canyon. There is a class 10 at the end of the canyon before Lake Mead, and you need to exit the waters before then.

@@randyhencken figured it had to be something weird like that. I run creature crafts and have run a 6 rapid on flood(death rapids on the Colorado) then into barrel and shashone @8800cfs. Still waiting for my opportunity to get on the grand!

@@randyhencken agreed. They are super fun and mitigate a lot of danger. Specially their work on rescue crafts for low head dam rescue/recovery. But yea the grand is high up on my list and a lot of the main rapids I’d love to kayak
