his "air catcher" is basically his defense to falling in love quickly - so he was always cautious to let people in close to him - so in this instance he's saying this person has taken that ability from him and he's giving his heart to this person even though he knows that access to his heart can destroy him - to me, this is a precursor to "Tear in My Heart" which i think you've done - in that song he basically says that his wife has the ability to destroy him b/c she has access to his heart

Yo, I know you already did Addict With a Pen, but I *highly* recommend checking out the UG studios version of that song. In my opinion its the definitive version. So much absolute raw emotion, even more so than the album version. You can see it in Tyler's face, and hear it in his voice. And even Josh's drumming gets more intense as Tyler gets more emotional. To me even in all its imperfections, it is a perfect version of the song.

Agreed although my favorite is the one where he gets emotional and starts slamming the piano at the drop. Sucks that the mic got muffled for most of that performance though

Oh nice! Thanks again, great reaction. Don’t stress if a song is hard to interpret. I think twenty one pilots is sometimes the hardest because of how Tyler writes. But it allows you to take what you want from each song

There are at least two ways to take the message: "You've stolen my air catcher" vs "You've stolen my air, catcher." Then he says "I don't know if I want it back," meaning he doesn't know if he wants his air back, or his air catcher. He often says multiple things at once and it adds extra meaning on purpose. He is simultaneously talking to somebody or something meant to catch him, and somebody or something meant to catch his air (which he gives more context to in future albums). You'll you see this with Message Man (Message, man), Lane Boy (Lane, boy), and Bounce Man (Bounce, man). I don't think any of us will ever fully understand the music they've created, but it makes more sense as you go along the storyline and hear all the songs. They will refer to air, catching breath, falling, etc. lots more in their music. It's also important to understand where the name Twenty One Pilots comes from, because those pilots falling to their deaths from the sky adds some powerful imagery. "I'm falling, so I'm taking my time on my ride."

Tyler plays the piano, bass, and ukulele. But the piano is his primary instrument. I always think of this song as him falling in love, but being scared to really let himself fall in love cause he'd have to give up his safety net or "air catcher" to give into the love.

I like watching different reactions that break down the elements of the performances. I’m a word person so the lyrics are the part that I understand best (and I need help often with Tyler’s lyrics) It only adds to my appreciation when I hear reactors who can speak to the other artistic elements that I find harder to understand. So much goes into this art and I appreciate everyone’s contribution. I honestly know that I would never have understood how great these guys are without hearing other people talk about what moves them personally when they listen. I would just be left with my own “Wow! Those words!” reaction. This is my long winded way of saying that when you get caught up in the music it reminds me of how beautiful the music is, when another reactor shares how impressive the sound, or production, or vocals or performances are, I learn to appreciate those components. How sad/boring life would be if we all could hear and see and think exactly alike! So if you would share what you love in the music I have no doubt that those who love the lyrics will share their breakdowns with you. BTW 🎉Congratulations on your baby!

I went into TOP blind and listened to this album a lot before I even began to understand the lyrics so i totally get what you're saying about it being so much music. I still like this album the best.

this song has an alternate version from an older EP released before the album. it's also super good, more polished vocals. def recommend it

that version of the song is actually a remake they released on their website after Josh joined, and was actually listed as the "studio version" which makes sense given how improved the song is

@@mcgfn the EP version also exists but it's more like a demo version with some elements that were lost in the album version and different vocals I would rank it 1 - Alternate Version Better vocals, some musical elements added to it, the whole "I just don't say what you wanna hear"' section, better version 2 - Album version It's so good and iconic I also love how loud it is One of my favorites from the self titled 3 - Demo It has a lot of interesting elements they could've kept like a guitar? (Maybe?), (i want me some top guitar songs( the album version has better mastering and vocals tho Good stuff

Their music is good one of the reasons being just by the way it sounds, and the lyrics are so insane you can’t help but get caught up in them. You are in for such a treat watching and hearing their progress, they’re are so dope

You're doing great, DJ! If I may send you to a new "beginning," No Phun Intended, it was Tyler Joseph before TOP. A lot of his insides are on that album. It might answer some of the questions you have about where Tyler is going. His conversations with God and himself are the connections I have with the music. Josh added as the others faded. I was able to see them live in Tampa. What a show! Thanks for your reactions

I suggest reading the lyrics even after your reations. Will add so much more to the experience. Also really, really recommend Addict with a Pen UG Studio version. Please. So, so good. Also, the switch up in this one reminds me u should ck out their cover of Jar of Hearts. It's a live cover from before Josh joined the band. ❤ |-/
