Just to help you understand, you got the 'split personality' thing practically spot on. Tyler created a personification of his insecurities, doubts, dark thoughts, existentialism, etc. He called this 'alternate personality' Blurryface. Occasionally in his songs, Blurryface takes the wheel and sings instead of Tyler, as a way of his other side expressing how he's really thinking.

This was my first top album. It helped me out SO MUCH when i was going through a really tough year of depression. Songs like Not Today taught me how to look my demons in the eye and say "not today" to them. Message man validated how intense my feelings felt to me with how intense the music was. Fairly Local assured me that i was not alone and that i dont have to be what my demons tell me i am. Lane Boy agreed, proving i can be whatever i want and nobody is going to stop me unless i let them. :) (also in stressed out it's "now we're stressed out" not "i'll be stressed out " )

That's why at the end of the video he puts on the costume and those creepy sounds like in heavydirtysoul can be heard. That's blurryface's voice. He's screaming cuz he won. But then in blurryface album we see tyler battling blurryface during the whole album and then, in the newer "goner" it's like their "final battle". During the build up lart of the song you can hear banging- blurryface is like angry. And then after the "don't let me be" scream you can hear the very loud banging- that's probably tyler and blurry fighting and at the end, after the "i want to be known....by... you..." the banging ends, tyler won.

Aneta Nováková I can answer that, blurryface is all of Tyler's and our insecurities and doubt and everything bad and the era was the time tyler was dealing with blurry and trying to defeat him. Blurry is represented by the red and if Tyler ever wore blue it would mean he defeated blurry(since blue is the opposite of red). So at a concert he wore a blue hazmat sorta suit and that was supposed to mean he defeated blurry. That's why everyone's saying the new album logo is gonna be blue instead of red. Tyler’s “evil” side is Blurryface. If you look at the album itself, the circles morph into a featureless face, which is Blurryface. Blurryface is the side of him that’s depressed, suicidal and all that shit. Not Today and Goner go hand in hand because Not Today is about Tyler beating Blurryface, but Goner is about letting Blurryface win. (this doesn’t really have to do with the album but it’s still important tbh) Kitchen Sink, a song on Regional At Best (an unreleased album which they need to release lmao) is supposedly about Tyler trying to hang himself from a kitchen sink, and there are theories about the clique symbol “|-/“ is Tyler hanging himself. The “|” is the sink, the “-“ is the rope and the “/“ is himself. (bACK TO THE ALBUM SHIT) The deep, distorted voice in the songs is supposed to represent Blurryface saying stuff. Blurryface has his own twitter account, and an email, which I have emailed before and I was replied to with some cryptic messages, which is how he “communicates”. I feel as if Blurryface is gonna be HEAVILY HEAVILY involved with their next album, due to the colors and shit that they’ve been revealing for the album. ----- this was random but i feel like i should comment this so you understand the band more lmao

So I’m a bit late to the party but in summary, the whole split personality thing was something called Blurryface. Blurryface is, to put it simply, a physical personality to his anxiety/depression/bad thoughts. When he’s talking about the contradiction in his songs (such as Fairly Local) it’s him vs his Blurryface. (Hence the name of the album) If you look at the lyrics in Stressed Out he says “My name’s Blurryface and I care what you think,” representing his anxieties. In his earlier songs/albums you can see where he’s speaking of these but this is the first album where directly represents it as Blurryface. There was a whole account for Blurryface because Twenty One Pilots likes to be cryptic with their album and song releases, so you should totally look into it because it’s very interesting! I’m so excited to see what they do with their new album we’re all anticipating and I hope you can get more into it!
