Tyler himself has said in interviews that the lore started with blurryface. However, I think the entire story of the lore is built on the same foundation that he wrote all of his earlier work in that the story was created in a way for him to address the topics that he used to address more straightforwardly.
@perligo9 ай бұрын
Do you remember which interview he said that in? Because we know without any doubt now that Vessel is part of the story.
@adamcahill19299 ай бұрын
@@perligo I'd have to search for it. Again, I think every album is connected. However, Blurryface is when the lore became intentional but I think Tyler used all his previous work to outline this narrative. This is why Vessel, regional at Best, and Twenty One Pilots (self-titled) are more straightforward and Blurryface and everything since has been more cryptic. I think you're right to think everything is connected. I just think it's semantics of when the story officially began.
@adamcahill19299 ай бұрын
Also Clancy coming out 9 years to the day Blurryface did really feels like the beginning and end of the cycle. Again though, I think everything in this video is fantastic and that it is intentional that it connects. It's just that it was made to connect after the fact, imo.

I honestly think that Tyler has had the story in his head for years, even prior to Self Titled. In Drown from No Phun Intended he says "But it’s more of a cry ‘cause he will try nine times To realize nine crimes but he has more than nine lives So he picks himself up and keeps climbing for the prize again" Which brings up the significance of 9

The only problem I have with this is the end of Anathema. These lyrics come from one of Tyler’s earlier solo albums, No Phun Intended, on the song Blasphemy. The trees of Trech could simply be his "tree house" his "home" that he wants to go to. In the end of the video for Overcompensate, josh and Tyler (with glowing eyes) are smiling at a fire in front of them we cannot see, but you see the embers and the wavy image of the gas burning and the reflection of the fire on Tyler's Face. They are happy about the fire. Tyler just admitted Clancy created a firey diversion (HeavyDirtySoul) to escape. So did the car burn down a portion of Trench? Did it burn down the Dema City? The car was on fire, but clearly something more significant burnt down as well, near water, as Josh was pullin the little boat. They had on the clothes from the end of the Outside video. The kids had torches on the other side and signaled to them. Did the kids burn it down?

Hi, great to see this. Even though no connection has been established i always thought holding on to you has a lot of imagery that is later used in trench. Especially the mountain range of my left-side brain. The left side brain is connected with creativity. Sahlo folina is used to express this love of creativity. And the map of trench, the mountains, look like a brain. and second, maybe a bit weaker, but: "You are surrounding all my surroundings Twisting the kaleidoscope behind both of my eyes" might have somethign to do with the island of violence that was something he xescribed as behind his eyelids. Or what we now know as Voldsoy. Maybe i am reading to much into this one. It is also very plausible he just uses the same metaphore of the brain being behind the eyes multiple times. just like he describes his brain as begind his face and above his throat. the last thing he said in holding onto you was: You think twice about your life, it probably happens at night, right? this is literally the same as in overcompensate: Don't fall asleep on a boy who can't fall asleep twice. it is the being late up in bed. All in all i do not think regional at best is in any way essential to the lore, but the imagery later portrayed was already used.

I wish I had the brain power to write out everything I want to say right now but I don't. I will say this, I think the biggest clues come from a song you didn't mention and that is the track Clear. "I wish that I had two faces to prove which theory works, yelling on the street corner or cleverly masking your words". He knew he had a choice to make and he chose the one that he thought he could reach more people with. I don't think there is lore in the earlier works but I do think that's when the idea to create Dema and Trench was born and more importantly WHY it had to be created. The story is mult-layered. While on the surface, it can be interpreted as struggles with mental health and fighting your way out of your own mind prison, there is a deeper layer. At it's core, the story is an allegory for the Gospel. It is the tale of two kingdoms. Dema is this world of Darkness that ultimately leads to self destruction. Trench is the Kingdom of God, where you find things like true freedom, hope, joy, peace, and love. All the things the Banditos represent. "Your Soul knows Good and Evil, your soul knows both sides, it's time you pick your battles, and I promise you this is mine" . I know many fans may not want to acknowledge this deeper level. And that's ok. Like Tyler says in Clear "I will tell you what I can, but your mind will take a stand, I sing of a Greater Love, let me know when you've had enough"

With the "rather play a song for the eyes to sing along" and the "treehouse is on fire ... gas on my hands ... not what I had planned" and the name of Clancy 1 being Overcompensate (and maybe also 3 being Backslide), these make me wonder if there will be some major overcompensation that ends up burning some of the bandito's homeland or maybe having the general population in Dema be kept there longer than originally intended, with plans for burning Dema that end up backfiring.

6:59 see I heard from a few sources Ruby was actually the name of a girl Tyler met years ago who had a disability and he made a song about her. I didn’t see anything confirming these statements, it is most likely true though, but if it isnt, then could be interesting to see a new character, possibly Jenna. EVEN STILL it could happen regardless outside of relating to ‘Ruby’. Could be a stretch. Definitely an interesting theory. Another thing to say is suppose if that was to happen, we’d have missed Jennas appearance playing a part of the lore in ‘Saturday’ because she could have been that character, and she also had her hair dyed pink in it. In the new album set to release, ‘The Craving’ (Jennas Version) we might be introduced to a new character but who knows 🤷

It's important to note that the rap verse in Anathema is reused from the song, 'Blasphemy' from No Phun Intended, Tyler's first album released in 2007. Dema is based around Tyler's depression it seems, and it can show, especially with the City and the Forest sections of the Self-Titled album cover. Forests (In My Opinion) have always symbolized the Bandito group, even with the song (that's right, from regional at best!) Forest where it says, "Down in the Forest, We'll Sing a Chorus" is seen to be reused for a similar meaning in The Hype, with the lines "No I don't know which way I'm going, but I can hear my way around". Another thing to point out when it comes to forests is that almost all of the Continent of Trench is forest-mountainous land. I skipped another line because I currently don't remember it right now lol. The only part of the Continent of Trench that isn't Forest is (of course) The Municipality of Dema. There's not much more to note of Dema, because we already know enough with plenty of theories being made as you read this. The other important thing that I want to note here is how it all sort of ties together with the Self-Titled album cover, as you can see these fantasy Forests and City being made from a mind. An open minded human. Clancy? Maybe, but I'd say it's just Tyler, because this is pre-blurryface era, so it's Tyler's mind, but I'd like to imagine that it's Clancy so I can prove my point. Dema isn't real. Trench isn't real. There's no Hero, nor is there Villain. It's Clancy. Pretty sleeper. His twisted thoughts are like snow on the rooftops, aka., harmless. It's all just a simulation of a dead person. Who is it that's dead though? Keons? Wait, what if Clancy is dead? What if the man in the Self-Titled album cover is Clancy? After all, it's a representation of Tyler's thoughts, and we know that Tyler is Clancy. We also see Trash the Dragon die with Keons and get controlled by Clancy. What if Keons is alive and Clancy is dead? What if Twenty One Pilots as a band is propaganda. What if What if What EVER!!! USE THIS AS A THEORY! IM BAD AT MAKING THEORIES AND THIS TOOK ME AN HOUR TO WRITE!!! IF IT MEANS ANYTHING AT ALL YOU MIGHT AS WELL USE IT!!! ugh....😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

So I know I’m so late, but with Clancy fully released I have a theory about how the forest lyrics played into this. So in the lyrics of navigating, Tyler (technically Clancy) is singing about dodging questions and how he’s not sure of the future and how he’s not sure how to respond to the present. Not what he had planned. Also it’s the only song with burning trees.

Sorry, about to go on a tangent, I have no clue if what i'm seeing here means anything, take this with a grain of salt, I'm only conceptualizing. I'm not sure what significance the song Ruby will have coming up but I do know that Tyler and Jenna have had 2 little girls. Their first child they named her Rosie (very similar to Ruby even down to the color the name represents, Red.) In the Discord Clique video from 3 years ago ( just watched it yesterday so im still processing what Tyler had said during the call.) At 33:35 Tyler gets asked about his immediate family, it's obvious that his wife and at the time 1 child were and still are a source of happiness and comfort for him, then at 40:42 a discord member sparks up this conversation> "Okay I was worried you wouldn't have wanted to talk about that because I feel like now since like I don't know ever since it was it was announced it was like spread like wildfire so I'm sure you get asked about it all the time. Yeah and again lick the line between your personal life and your public life and not knowing like what lines can be crossed what can be talked about not talked about during like this little thing this new development here."..-.." This is the most normal conversation I've had with anyone except for my immediate family in a long time. And so in that sense yeah the fame and the baggage that comes with it does start to get old. Now as far as like how much of my family and personal life do I want to to show? I think that when we first started coming up >>>>We rubbed shoulders with a lot of bands and artists that were famous that their strategy was like 'take them out of it don't show you know don't show your kids don't show your wife like keep everyone at bay and you're you're the face of of the thing that you're doing' at least that's kind of the vibe that I got from a lot of the people that I started interacting with, and it just didn't feel right. I think that's you know putting my daughter in a music video that was the first time you know she's like she was like two months old... will she will she be mad at me someday? I don't know.. I didn't ask her permission.. and I hope that I didn't do anything wrong.. so we'll see.."-"...I'm not just doing that because you know some marketing ploy, it's like I I'm so proud of my of my family and the people in my life I want them to be a part of what I'm doing. I want them to you know meet the other people that are you know fans of this music. And I mean that's what we've been doing you know from the beginning.. You know obviously with stressed out having like our whole family in it my mom still gets people walking up to her " Hey! Your in that video!".. Props to announcing the pregnancy in Berlin by the way that was a good choice of good choice of city. Yeah that was a last-minute thing you know. We we knew for a few... I forget exactly how far along Jenna was when when we did that but.. there was this I don't know such a buildup of like how to announce it and when to announce it. I think right before I went onstage.. I told I told Jay I was like "let's do it let's just let me just say just be side Stage for in between this song and this song." she's like "what do you mean?" I was like "just beside stage between this song and this song" and I think she knew what that meant.. but I didn't really tell her.. and then and then I just went with it.. and that's how we announced it.. brought her out on stage.. and um whatever.. I'm realizing now I didn't really ask like if she was cool with it.. yeah she goes with the flow"

I would say the narrative objectively started with Blurryface but self titled and regional at best can be viewed as non-canon insight to what Tyler has in mind for the Dema narrative. Kind of like looking at deleted scenes in a movie or show, you can see the writer or directors vision for the story even if they're not canon to the story's narrative, and their absence in the story's narrative also gives you insight because it shows what they wanted to pivot from or explore later. Like I definitely agree some of the songs in regional at best definitely parallel Scaled and Icy. Glowing Eyes showing Clancy's hesitation to try and escape, instead choosing to play and perform for the bishops is pretty solid. Not to say Glowing Eyes was always intended to be that, but just that Tyler pulled from the same feelings he had at the time of writing Glowing Eyes when he was making the Dema narrative. I hope that made sense.

Also a car a torch a death which refers to blurry face, trench, SAI (propaganda) and Clancy. Another thing is the ceiling fan on ST cover looks like the map of Dema with the different sectors. Taxi cab as well may play some part in the blurry face music video. There is so much to unpack when it comes to self titled relating to the newer albums.

@gold_green20019 ай бұрын
I have a theory that this lore overlap comes for two main reasons. The first is that Tyler could be tying in lore references to previous work specifically to give fans more lore to uncover with each release. The second is that this is a result of a sort of “intellectual watermark;” since Tyler has always been the core creative control behind the band, he comes up with the lyrics, themes, and motifs. A notable example of this is the motif of eyes in their music. From obvious songs like Glowing Eyes and the repeated mention of eyes in the lyrics in Tyler’s solo track, Blasphemy, eyes have always been in Tyler’s music. Now yellow eyes are lore-relevant, and their album covers have red tape over the eyes I think it’s a bit of a stretch to look back to Blasphemy, for example, and say that it’s part of the lore because it mentions eyes. After all, Tyler wrote that track in high school. He also reuses lyrics such as in the raps in Blasphemy and Anathema, so reusing motifs makes total sense. Now, Tyler does a TON of planning, but I strongly doubt that he wrote Regional at Best with the Dema storyline in mind. It would be cool though!

(Also the yellow roses from the trench era are seen in the video in black and white) Anyways George Orwell moved to a small Scottish island after his wife died and that is where he wrote most of 1984 while dealing with his emotions due to the loss. The island is called Jura and has a very small population. Anyways it got me thinking of being scaled back and isolated on an island. Not sure if it is relevant, but I just wanted to share it.

I feel like Tyler probably always used at least a vague idea of the bishops and Dema to compartmentalize or identify different parts of his mental health. I remember writing a poem when I was a teenager about an ice queen who would call me her dear but grab me by the throat and trap me and tell me how terrible I was---it was really about fear (oh myspace days). It's almost a way to make the fear into something that isn't yourself, something that is happening to you, that isn't your fault, that you can fight against. So it wouldn't surprise me if Tyler has carried these themes for a long time and fleshed them out into full characters and gave them stories. I still feel like this new album is giving me "becoming the thing you are fighting" vibes so far. It's really a warning. You can get yourself so behind a cause that you lose yourself and turn to violence (red) and lose hope (yellow). That's not how the story will end though 😉 we know that.

If Tyler said that all records have included something about Dema, isn’t there concrete eveidence in Trapdoor? I believe we have seen a gravestone with the name Clancy on it so In Trapdoor when he says “Nobody knows his real name but now he just uses one he saw on a grave” would that be referring to Clancy choosing that name to potentially hide himself? Also later in the song during the chorus, would the line “watch him fall through a bleeding trapdoor” refer to the overcompensate music video where the residents of Dema see that Clancy “disappeared” through a “trapdoor” which was the citizen of Dema that he possessed to get the message to the Dema citizens, showing that he “disappeared” and was never really there?

Okay, I’m gonna be honest, I think this is a massive stretch and I’m pretty sure Tyler wasn’t even thinking about lore when he wrote RAB. First of, the 9 theory with RAB is such a weird reach, there are also 4 songs on RAB that were bonus songs on Vessel, yet you don’t remove those. Also, if anything, these reaches just go to show that the underlying metaphor or mental health has always been present, and Tyler has continued using similar metaphors. I do not think RAB or Self Titled, or Vessel for that matter have any relevance to the lore, but I think when Tyler began constructing the lore, he took inspiration from last metaphors and ideas he used and made them more literal. When he said dema has been there from the start or whatever, I think he simply meant that as dema is a metaphor for mental health struggles, he is saying that his mental health problems have been a large influence on his music from the start and so ideas that are now a part of the lore we’re present back then as well.

Maybe ruby is the girl seen wearing the mask and also was seized from clancy? She had red hair. In the overcompensate music video at the end.

I may be wrong but, I was also thinking that there was some kind of connection with forest cause in the past we have never seen a for forest on the map of Trench or in any of the videos until the now release of Overcompensate. Now that you also mention the burning treehouse it made me think what if the thing on fire that we don't get to see is burning treehouse (Although I'm pretty sure I'm reaching on that one). Also after the release of the new song it made me go back to Levitate because it is the only other song that mentions the word "Compensate" referring that it is "Compensation feels a lot like rising up to dominate" and with the line right after saying "By track two" makes me think something major is happening with the second track on Clancy
@perligo9 ай бұрын
Yes. So true. I was very happy to see a forest appear.

@@perligo Okay i was doing some more looking for hints and came up with another theory. In the video for Overcompensate when all the citizens are filing in and sitting, I noticed there were two people are already in there sitting. The girl looks kind of annoyed of being there the boy I couldn't tell. But I'm wondering if they are like the bishops trusted people and they report back to them. When everyone gets up to head to the classroom the girl is no longer seen for the rest of the video, so she probably went and told the bishops what Clancy/Tyler was doing. But the boy by the end of the video is wearing yellow tape. So, either Clancy/Tyler won the boy over or perhaps the boy is pretending to now be with the banditos as a way to be on the inside and be able to report to the bishops about plans they are coming up with to defeat the bishops.

Ruby is a real person. She was a girl with down syndrome that Tyler knew from his church. I very highly doubt she would be a character in the lore.
@frostrose85509 ай бұрын
While I do think that any lore earlier than Blurryface was probably not intentional at the time it was written, I also am pretty convinced that they intentionally tied these thing into the narrative now. There are too many commonalities for it to be coincidence

@perligo there is so much lore tucked away in the earlier songs. Also in trapdoor when he says he uses a name he saw on a grave, I wondered if that's where the name Clancy came from.

so, since the “i part my heart two halves in the dark….” is taken from tyler’s no phun intended…. does that mean that no phun intended is also dema lore???

@murraymon9 ай бұрын
I think you’re reaching, but maybe. For instance I don’t think Ruby is involved at all, Ruby was the name of a specific person Tyler actually knew, i don’t think the song has anything to do with the story, as none of the song that have related to real people have a role in it other then subtle nods. And I don’t think Tyler would take something as sweet as a song for this little girl he knew would be made into something as dark as the dema story. As for the treehouse, i like the idea of Clancy maybe going overboard with the fire and accidentally doing something he shouldn’t, but fire in the Dema story seems to represent freedom and passion, not destruction. Also glowing eyes and anathema are about inner demons. So maybe they have a bigger roll, but not all of the bands songs that are about mental health tie into the story. Also 2, 9 could just be 29, again referring to february 29th
@chitownn9 ай бұрын
Ruby probably doesnt fit into the story, its probably a standalone. I remember reading way back during vessel era that Ruby was written about a girl Tyler went to church with as a kid
@perligo9 ай бұрын
Yes, I read that also. However, I do think many TOP songs which we know to be in the canon of the lore have double meanings - a meaning which relates to the story and a meaning which relates to our world. Many of the songs from Scaled and Icy can been viewed this way.
@juanncarrizo95089 ай бұрын
Yes, it's about a girl with down syndrome from his church
@antiLGTBQ9 ай бұрын
Aight so the idea that RAB vessel or self titled were made with lore involved is total BS. Its completely reasonable that they're making references like anathema while building the story, not the other way around. numbers are easy to get lost with with "lines to draw"
@landynmccarty22769 ай бұрын
I think vessel is connected to the dema story. That's why the album cover has the red tape asking with the other albums connected to the story. The only album on spotify with no tape is self titled. I think the album name vessel is an obvious hint to the vessel needed for vialism and the ability to control an empty body
