The lyrics to this song are deep but only to certain people. You have to understand the lyrics and have had to experience them first hand to actually have a clue about what they are putting out in this song in particular. If you haven’t experienced the pain and agony of this song first hand then this song is nothing but a cool tune to sing along to. In my opinion no one would go this far to connect with like minded people and to tell them that they understand how they feel in such a cryptic way just so they can be edgy and cool. This song is literally a mood for some people (myself included) because we have dealt with so much shit in our lives and this song is letting those people know that you are not alone and there are like minded people like yourselves who experience the same things you do. This song is a way to connect to others through experiences and emotions. The lyrics of this song are so freaking deep. Tyler is saying that he stays up at night worrying about his suicidal fans, about the stories that he's heard. He's screaming for us not to take our lives. He's proposing that instead, we find our comfort in the music, that we find support in the clique. And then the rap part tells us that he knows what we're going through. He tells us that he too has considered suicide. But he is saying to please take out their anger and their sadness towards him instead of themselves. Because he can't stand the idea of someone going through what he has gone through. *trigger warning* I had listened to this song before but never really gave it much thought... then I listened to the commentary for where Tyler says this song can be interpreted as him saying even though we have the ability to hurt ourselves, we should take that power and use it to fuel something else instead... ...I relapsed this morning and got pulled out of school for harming myself, and all I could think about was how I had promised I'd stop for my parent's sake. Self harm is usually an indication of severe depression, and used as a way to experience some type of feeling besides depression and hopelessness. If you don't have any clue what you're talking about, please don't comment. The "Just get over it" attitude doesn't ever solve anything. The only thing that fixes things is addressing the issues causing the symptoms. You ignorance is unfathomable. I first listened to this song 4 years ago, with a group of kids who I called my chosen family. We all self harmed, we all hung out during school and on the weekends. We spent all our time together. When one of us was hurting, the whole group came together to support one another. It was.. without a doubt the most beautiful thing I ever experienced. It was the one and only time in my life I had a "squad." We were.. a room full of mutant kids, fused at the wrists, when we were together. Truthfully.. they were the first real friends I ever had, at the age of 14. I knew heaven with them. I ruined it and, now I listen to this, and I realize- we all knew what the little things in this song meant back then, that was why it was one of our "emo anthems," but only now do I see how personal it should have been to me. I did a lot of bad things and lost this group, it's been three-ish years since I did and I haven't had any luck making new friends since then. I would like to think I've grown as a person, that I'm not the same toxic cloud that I used to be. But I don't know. I just know.. I'm grateful for this band, the same as I was back then.

yeah I really am starting to have a problem with the whole "fandom" thing at the moment. Everyone just likes to look at Tyler's like a "smol bean" and all cute and stuff and not focus on the music. The "stay alive" aspect of this fanbase means so much to me. I've been listening to this band since their release of blurryface, 9 years now. Since then I have gone through a few hospitalization, losses, and general gut-wrenching life events. I have lived my childhood and my teenage years to their full. I am on the verge of being 18, and I'm looking back at all that I've done and lived. This band formed me. This band is the foundation of all the music I listen to now. This was the first band I had ever gotten into by myself, the first band I could call mine. This was one of the songs I held close to my heart, a Vessel CD was the first merch I had ever bought from them. I don't know why we were supposed to be here, I don't know what the point of life is. Why others have to work harder for stability, why others have the privilege to worry about less material things. I don't think anything truly has meaning sometimes. But I think that's a beautiful thing. The meaning we put into our lives, not knowing if in the end there will be any gain. Living just to live. One thing is for sure though; I am so glad I am alive. I am so glad the blood continues to flow through my veins and my heart continues to beat. I am so glad I can see my growth, that I have learned the things I have, that the beauty in this very painful life has presented itself to me. Looking back over these comments 9 years later, and seeing all the "Stay alive" comments really makes me feel something. I stayed alive. My heart aches for those who have lost their fight, and goes out to those still fighting theirs. For any new fan who's just getting into Twenty One Pilots, this whole band is an art piece truly unique to any other music I have ever listened to. I can safely say there has never and will never be a band like twenty one pilots. It's not something comparable, it's raw and subjective. Stay alive. Make your own meaning. Pain is one of the most wonderful things in life if you let it be.
