Pretty sure the only way to understand Tyler in some of these songs requires the lyrics... but also, they are musically just as brilliant as they are lyrically... you can listen to these songs 100 times and still find something new to love about it.

the one thing i think you missed is at the end where it goes "not done, not done, not done, josh dun" which was written specifically for the live show context, because josh does a drum solo on top of the crowd right after that, as well as being a nod to a song from blurryface called the judge where in the background vocals at one point tyler yells "josh dun!" instead of "the judge" because josh was on the other side of the glass when he was recording it and they decided to keep it in, and tyler says it live too!! just a fun little extra bit to an otherwise very deep song

Also Josh was once asked (not being the song writer) if he had to get a Twenty One Pilots lyric tattooed on himself which one would he choose. He didn't miss a beat and he said "Probably "Josh Dun". It's in two different songs." LOL

my interpretation of the "above is blind belief, under is sword to sleeve, and around is scientific miracle" is tyler's thoughts about where you go after death. above = believing you go to heaven. nobody knows for sure if that's where you actually go after death, but a lot of people strongly believe that is the case, hence the 'blind belief' part. under = the other way to figure out what happens after death is to actually, literally die (i think suicide is what he is implying? i'm not sure), so 'sword to sleeve'. around = to find a way to beat death or to work around it would be a 'scientific miracle'.
@Justcallmekai11

It is said that Tyler struggles with cutting and self harm, so some believe "sword to sleeve" to be very literal in the sense of him cutting when he is depressed, which seems to happen more so when he has distanced himself from his faith.

I think that the part, “are we still in love and is it possible we feel the same,” is asking if we still feel the same about the people we leave behind after our passing. Do the people we love who went before us, remember us and are they waiting for us to reunite with them in the afterlife? That’s just my interpretation of that line.

This definetly is about his doubts, but also him battleling his inner demons. When he's talking about Nico trying to stop him, mocking him, telling him he's a copy, I always see Tyler in the I'm a goner mv. You see him shouting at himself, and it is clearly what is going on in his mind. Just like in HeavyDirtySoul and the Jumpsuit- Nico and the Niners- Levitate Trilogy: It's all in his mind and it's a cycle, the same battle over and over again. In Cut my lip he says Even though I am bruised Face of contusions Know I'll keep moving. Here he says If I keep moving they won't know. So maybe if he just keep moving, he'll get through it. And morph - He has talked about putting on a mask many times before. I think it helps him. (A mask of my disguise - message man). Just becoming someone else for a while. A defense mechanism mode. I don't know, just some of my thoughts. Love your reactions😊

DANG!!! You’re GREAT! Both he and Josh (and Jenna, Tyler’s wife) were raised in very religious homes, as in those of whom who are more involved than those who go to church only on Sunday or every once and awhile. Because he questions blind belief, there were people saying Tyler wasn’t a true Christian but a hypocrite…which is both untrue and unfair. I agree with what you said, in that we’ve probably all wondered why, how, for what, etc. we are here and does Heaven and Hell (& Purgatory?) really exist? I think the fact that he dares to question and seek out what is really true is what MAKES him a "true christian" and the exact opposite of a hypocrite. Not asking questions I think is detrimental and carries a sense of insincerity or disingenuous because you'd rather just take someones word for it than do the work yourself and find the answers to hard questions. If you just accept things at face value, how will you know when it is a lie, unless you have done the work and the research to know what you believe but most importantly WHY you believe it. Therefore I have a lot of respect for him (and others) who dare to question and seek out the why. Thanks for the support!!! :)

And our frustrations. Which is why I love these songs that are honestly and openly "yelling" their questions and frustrations to God because modern day church makes you feel like you can't/shouldn't do that yet if you read the Psalms or other books, many authors did just that and they were not punished. God wanted and appreciated them coming to him and being honest (as if he doesn't already know what we are truly thinking). So the artists that come out and say what is truly on their mind, the questions they really have, the doubts they have, the frustrations they have, I have a ton of respect for. We are all human and have those same thoughts.

Suffi Reax Yes! I totally agree. My pastor was talking recently about when he used to chaplain a hospital and how there was this 35 yo woman dying of cancer. She was a royal jerk each time they visited her and they all got tired of meeting with her. One time he got consulted to see her again on the weekend and forced himself to go talk to her rather than leaving it for the Monday Chaplain. He finally just asked her, why are you so dang mean? She told him that she had to stay strong and loving for her husband, kids, and the staff taking care of her... but knew that her God could handle her anger. That’s what your message reminded me of. He “gets it”. 💚

The way I see it is: "up is blind belief" As in believing in a higher power like god. "Under is sword to sleeve" as in people who dont believe in a higher power and feel as though humans are the higher power so they resort to conflict to rise above others. "Around is scientific miracles" as in the people who base their beliefs of something more "scientific" but could end up on either side or in the middle of the other two. "Let's pick above and see" is him choosing to believe in a higher power like god and hoping hes right. "For if and when we go above" is him hoping again that it's true because "if" is purely panic its him panicking about if there really is a god and "when" is solemn sorrow means that he is distressed about when he will die "one invades today" being the "if" as he questions his faith every day "while the other spies tomorrow" meaning "when" he will die will come tomorrow (or in the future) "Are we still in love and is it possible we feel the same" could mean two things 1. He is questioning his faith in god asking if god has as much of a connection to him as he believes he has to god Or 2. He could be having troubles with someone close to him like a family member. Asking do we still love each other even if we both dont feel the same. "That's when going under starts to take my wonder but until that time I'll try to sing this" meaning hes losing his faith in god and is starting to believe more that god does not exist but he will ignore it until it is time(as in death). Answering both "if" and "when". This could be what you were getting at and it could also make no sense but its 2am and I'm tired also this could be totally wrong that's just what I think it's about.

In the song Kitchen Sink, he makes it pretty clear that defeating your demons is your path to purpose and meaning. So yeah, life is about going through your tormentors, but thats a good thing! Its not a life wasted, its a life of meaning and purpose... its a life of alchemy, turning lead into gold. Im not christian, but I am spiritual... I see all forms of prayer to the creator as being valid so long as people are not confusing religion with spirituality, bc turning up to a place of worship only to spend the time focused on what Karen wore that week or to out do others in their holy ways is not creating that relationship with the creator. People who have their own place of worship at home where they light a candle on a daily or weekly basis and lives moment to moment with their connection to the creator without even an outward sign is far more devote imo. Also Ive had PTSD, depression, anxiety, and suicidal with an attempt when I was 19. Im also Demisexual, meaning I have no physical desire for another person until a deep emotional 2 way bond has formed... tmi I know, but thats just so you know where Im coming from. "Morph to someone else Im just a ghost..." My take: We are not our meatsuits. We are the individual that drives it around, using the features provided like touch and sound and such to experience and interact with this world and other people... we are not restricted to our body or the experiences we have already had... we can morph to whoever we wanna be. We can grow and change and find happier places and people. They cant pull you down if you're always working on being the best you you can be. If you're always looking at new ways to expand your understanding and experience of this world, they can throw things or drag you down if you're always fluid and morphing. Idk, thats what I got from it at my level. I think they consciously offer words that can be heard at any level that will help heal in some way or another. Pretty sure they're our generations Prophets... thank gods, I was getting tired of reading the truth on the subway walls and tenement halls and in the sound of silence...

It is soooooo crazy what you said in your last line there....I just made a reaction video today to "The Sound of Silence" by Disturbed so I recognized that line immediately! Your last paragraph there also reminded me of Bruce Lee's famous quote "Be water my friend" for water is shapeless, you put it into a cup and it becomes the cup, put it into a bowl and it becomes the bowl, it is ever changing while still staying the same at its core.

@@SuffiReax I havent even heard it and I know Pentatonix did it better. Lol. They always manage to get a goosebumps moment for me tho. I think the concept of being fluid/water/morphing is exactly what people need... but almost impossible to conceived for those who are rigid. It starts with learning to bend, then twist, then swerve, then flow... its a process. Speaking of states of matter, I like to think of life like oobleck... (you know, like cornstarch and water?) The harder you push the harder life resists, but if you just lean into the direction you want to go, then it eases itself around you. My head is a weird place, but its mine and Im never bored.

I always saw the lyrics "and is it possible we feel the same?" as questioning whether or not going above to Heaven truly takes away the pains of this world or not. I interpreted "Are we still in love and is it possible we feel the same" as whether (1) we can truly love God the way He loves us, or (2) if God truly loves us at all. In (1), is it even possible for our love to be reciprocated, maybe because of sin nature; in (2), is it possible that God actually doesn't love us at all. I think (1) is more likely, but meh. 🤷‍♀️

Nico and Blurryface is the same dude, just different name. Specifically if you deepdive, Nico seems to be the combination (and simultaniously the leader) of all the other Bishops that, unlike Nico, each are tied to a song with a different insecurity presented in them. This because Nicolas Bourbaki was the pseudonym for the mathemathicians that other comments wrote about, and not a single person, while the other bishops are tied to some of the actual people under that same pseudonym. Sidebit about TOP's overall themes. They have always written about mental health and have specifically always had messages of anti-suicide. It ties into their name and ALSO the name Bourbaki. Their band name is a reference to a play where a man makes a mistake that ends up killing 21 people in a planecrash and because of it, he commits suicide. There's also an old general who got a lot of his soldiers killed from a poor decision in war, and he too tried to commit suicide to avoid dealing with it. Obv overkill but it makes a lot more sense knowing these things.

Nicolas Bourbaki is the name of a group of mathematicians from the last century. They invented the empty set (the o with a slash, which you might see In their logos sometimes). They also tried to justify the existence of God through science! There are other interesting details about them but those are the ones i remember. It's amazing how cohesive this concept is and how they managed to develop it so much

You're spot on for what I interpret the song as- i think an example of a "scientific miracle" would be like freezing yourself

Yes exactly, things like that where science tries to cheat death or even just anti aging or whatever else scientists are trying to cook up haha.

I try to always use the official video so that when I link the original it goes back to their channel and gives them the views if anyone clicks on it. So if their official video doesn't have lyrics I want to print them off. That way I can give credit to them in every way I can.

I know you gave it a bop but did you actually like the song. You were so focussed on the lyrics.

I tend to do that with twenty one pilots haha I get so zoned into what they are saying I kinda miss the song aspect of the song, but yes I did still like it. The lyrics and what is said in a song plays a huge role to me, so a songs beat can be extremely simple but if the lyrics are the exact opposite, it is gunna be a bop from me.
