Good god, I'm a die hard Twenty one pilots fan, and my first time hearing their music it took me dozens of listens of each song to make out some of the verses, much less dissect what they actually mean and THEN dissect music videos. You must have an IQ of like 20 million because you just hear all of the lyrics on the first go around and almost get exactly what he's saying while also understanding the video at the same time. Every song Tyler makes, he takes into consideration how it will be preformed live. As in he thinks of the audience as much as he thinks about his lyrics. He connects with you on a personal level in an arena full of 20k ppl. Josh speaks to us without ever saying a word, the unification of their passion and craft makes everyone feel like they are the only ones there, but at the same time gives us the freedom to be unified as one. Dopest shows ever.

so that one verse is really dense, with a lot of ideas packed in the basic idea is struggling with belief and trust in God, he's putting on a "mask that portrays that we don't need grace," trying to ignore that he needs forgiveness and to let God be in control "the trees wave their arms and the clouds try to plead," I see this as the concept that God's creation and the imperfections in it because of sin point to God as both creator and savior of the world "I asked forgiveness three times, same amount that I denied," refers to Peter's denial of Jesus during the crucifixion (which, interestingly, took place at night and the rooster crowing in the morning was the sign of Peter's failure), Tyler's seeing himself as doing the same thing, acting like he's not a Christian to the people around him, hence "I'm afraid to tell you who I adore" "metaphorically I'm a whore and that's denial number four," I'm not sure if Tyler's going for this but there are parts of the bible where God refers to Israel as a prostitute, fornicator, or adulterous wife, Hosea in particular is all about the metaphor of an unfaithful prostitute being like Israel's unfaithfulness in constantly turning to other gods; it could just be that Tyler sees his doubts as unfaithfulness, or that he's tempted by other "gods" like fame and wealth

@@TheThirdErnest For sure! Which is a throw back to "Trapdoor" Which is their personification of someone who is depressed and just meanders through life without someone reaching out to help them. TOP is really deep. Something to think about in your analysis. TOP played Christian festivals when they were starting to break out. Tyler admits he wrote Smithereens and Tear in my Heart for Jenna (his wife). Legend is for his granddad. But other songs that sound like he is singing to someone I feel like its directed toward his spiritual Center or his Center singing toward him. I say Center meaning Jesus but you know these days with all the "lets not pigeon hole someone" progressive thought.

twenty one pilots brought me here...your detailed and insightful reactions to songs has me more likely to check out your reactions to artists I've never heard of. I only just discovered them late last year myself. A few weeks after they played live here 😔 Loved everything I heard by them, so much so that I drove 8 hours from Minnesota into Canada to see them. I see a few people have recommended you react to live videos. I agree, but I also remember hearing you say at some point you're from Texas. They're playing Fort Worth on Fri November 8th. Seriously, if you can get there, GO! I've been to well over 100 concerts in the last 30 years, never had a single favorite, more like favorite top 10. These two guys blew every other show out of the water. So seriously, try and see them (so it'll be actual nostalgia.) If you can't make it, at least try and watch a full concert. The festival shows are usually better shot and better audio, but they're also not actually a full length show, which are 2 hours long. But don't film a reaction so you can be fully absorbed by the experience.

Now they have the number 1 alternative album of the decade, which is the only record in history across all genres where every single song is certified at least gold. It could not have happened to two better people. Tyler and Josh deserve every single accolade they have.

A lot of their stuff touches on religion, but always in metaphor and in a non-conventional way. They tend to be talking about the burdens and doubts they experience in their faith rather than typical music about religion that's dripping with so much certainty that it feels fake or at the very least difficult for it to truly resonate with anyone.
@TheThirdErnest5 жыл бұрын
Couldn’t have put it any better myself. The certainty about something that’s uncertain is what turns a lot of people off to religious music but they do an amazing job staying true and real about their burdens and faith.

Always loved TOP! Ive never seen the music video before this and realized that the final concert was in my home town. Love how you have dove into their lyrics and your interpretation of them. I haven’t really scene a good breakdown of them before.

Finally subscribed. I only watch 21 pilots and NF, and you help me catch symbolism that I didn’t know was there. I think there are a lot of people are interested in reactions to clean music, in that category, you are the best I have found

soooo i guess we on the 21P train now and honestly just like NF i really havent heard a "Bad" track by them. definitely weaker ones but 90% of their music is fire. just because of their pure talent. BUT PLEASE BEFORE YOU COMMIT TO THIS TRAIN CAN YOU PLEASE FINISH THE NF TRAIN WITH "Let Me Go" ?? THATS THE LAST NF SONG I WANT YOU TO REACT TO LOL

The way you actually hear what he is saying is just amazing. I subscribed. Keep it up ♡

On the eve of a day that's forgotten and fake As the trees, they await, and clouds anticipate The start of a day when we put on our face A mask that portrays that we don't need grace On the eve of a day that is bigger than us But we open our eyes, cause we're told that we must And the trees wave their arms and the clouds try to plead Desperately yelling, there's something we need I'm not free, I asked forgiveness three times Same amount that I denied, I three-time MVP'd this crime I'm afraid to tell you who I adore Won't tell you who I'm singing towards Metaphorically, I'm a whore, and that's denial number four" Essentially we put on our fake smiles (put on our face) like NF, for our public persona when we know something is broken in humanity. WE GOT THIS FAM....I GOT IT ON MY OWN....DON'T NEED FORGIVNESS FROM MY SIN OR GRACE. And he personifies nature the same way. All of existence is wondering what is the greater purpose and wants to live for it, but if confronted about living for it we may deny it like Peter. DEEP!!! And we open our eyes because you must live another day even if it wouldnt be your choice. Fast forward a decade and we get neon gravestones..ie dont make the wrong choice for the wrong reasons

I really love how you catch the religious undertones of the song. The thing I’ve learned about Twenty-One Pilots is that all of their songs have those Christian undertones that draws the listener into the message, and with that knowledge, it brings the songs to a whole other level.

You should look at their whole story in their music videos. It’s all about the 9 bishops and being trapped by DEMA
