I added FuelX Pro from Race Dynamics to fix the 390 Adv’s low end performance, and the improvement is substantial. You may want to consider fixing one…the engine becomes extremely tractable at low speeds, without fear of stalling.

Nice review. I'm also considering between the 2. What would you say if we modify the GS a little bit by upgrading the suspension with preload settings to address the onroad handling, and have the flexibility of an off-road setting too. Then change the front sprocket for longer gearing (changing 16 tooth to 17), but compensate the power loss at the wheel with an ecu remap. I saw a review where the cruise RPM at 100kph is reduced by 500rpm, thus much quieter and less vibration, and more top end speed (with no remap). So in standard forms the 390 may win many points, but after a little mod, I think the GS would at least match the 390's strong point, if not surpass it. greetings from Indonesia.

Excellent comparison of Adv 390 vs 310 GS! I am confused between the two as well. But I noticed that you switched the City Riding point in favour of Adv 390, even though you spoke about GS having an advantage for city roads. So which one is it, because in the end many of us end up riding these bikes atleast 50% of the time within the city, if not more?

I would say.. Gs310 is good in all places except. Highway high speed touring . If you dont want to do 110-120kmph on highways.. And atick to max 90-100.. get Gs310

Fantastic comparison between the 2 bikes. As an older rider who isn’t interested in speed but rather wants to slow tour on 2 lane highways and forest service roads in remote areas this review really vindicated my choice of the BMW.

Good comparison...one more point is fuel tank capacity...Adv 390 is 14.5L and BMW 310 GS 11L!! Sometimes range matters..GS 310 maxes out at 280 km...range anxiety is always there with the 310 😁

Hi , Very good review and bang in point . My BMW 310 GS will arrive on this padhva . We hardly go on touring and in those terms handling a bike in a city is much easier on BMW . And one important point no one mention , BMW turning radius is lower than adv 390 . So turning in city is much comfortable and to handle bike at high speed due to its sitting position ( BMW ) is very comfortable. Great , good luck

Since you have ridden the Himalayan 450, I’m planning to buy an ADV and confused between Adv390, GS310 and Himalaya 450, which one would you recommend?

For some reason with a full tank up...I found ktm a bit top heavy as compared to gs. What's yr POV?

I also heard BMW GS 310 has a lot of reliabilty issues: battery issues, alternator, clutch / gear pedal issues.
@Twenty3Rides Жыл бұрын
Battery 🪫 issues i heard definitely.
@florme6494 Жыл бұрын
I heard that was fixed from 2021. KTM seems like more of a liability, this is why I’m leaning towards the BMW. I don’t care so about speed, as long as it can go 110km/h. If I wanted high speeds I’d be looking in a different category.

Is it really that hard suspension on adv 390 that will couse you back pain on speed breakers & pot holes? Let me know coz I am planning to buy this bike.
@Twenty3Rides Жыл бұрын
Its hard , try it yourself also.. and then decide. Aftermarket upgrades for 10-15k can fix that.

The suspension system of ktm 390 adventure is made by endurance which also makes suspension for cheap Bajaj bikes.

thanks for the review. Both of them are great . KTM has to fix with wrong handle bar position, harder suspension which causes bad body ache after long ride. BMW has to tune up engine power and add some techs. Younger generation will love the power on KTM but 30+ will enjoy seating position, riding comfort. You cant go wrong with any of them. BMW is offering unlimited KMS warranty for 3 years, so they have the confidence on the quality of the built offered.

310GS also has a small tank size. Battery is crap. Low end torque is not that impressive. To prevent it from stalling you need to keep your revs high!

The suspension of the 310 GS is not adjustable! That's a huge disadvantage in comparison to the 390 ADV in my opinion. I love the sporty suspension of my 390 ADV which allows me to ride safe and really quickly in the twisties. To ride offroad, you can easily and fully adjust the suspension fork as well as the rear suspension. The 310 GS´ suspension is too soft to compete with naked bikes on our German roads.
@Twenty3Rides2 жыл бұрын
I also would have had the same opinion, but in india Adv390 is offered with a non adjustable WP suspension, which is back breaking stiff. Even patch work on indian roads jolts the spine, thats why there is a separate demand for aftermarket custom rear shocks . Indian roads in even urban mountain areas are not that great.
