I got my TSA/STA certification thru the courier companies I contract with. It helps get you into air freight cargo areas for sending/receiving as a TSA/STA certified representing agent. You have to take a basic class on air cargo shipping, take a test, and have a background check. $40.00 for the entire process but you act as an agent for the company you have the contract with. It's good for 3 years.

TSA PreCheck® for TWIC® Eligible TWIC holders may access TSA PreCheck® screening lanes by providing the identification number printed on their TWIC card during the reservation process. I use it every time I fly. Whoever told you that your TWIC card does not allow you to use TWIC card for TSA PreCheck doesn’t have a clue. Active TWIC® card holders enter their TWIC® credential identification number (CIN) in the known traveler number (KTN) field of their airline reservation. The CIN is printed on the back of each TWIC® card in the lower left-hand corner.

I have TWIC and TSA........Andre just so you know. There are a lot of broker agents who have no clue that TWIC is acceptable for TSA usually now. I usually use mine 30-50% of the time as good brokers feel more comfortable with a "TRUE" vetted and background checked driver.

I used my TWIC three or four times within the last calendar year, in the ports only.

I got my TSA clearance at the Spokane Airport in there Security Office. You go apply there and get fingerprinted there.

i’ve been with an LTL company for over two years and even though I currently may not need a TWIC card because I never had to go to an airport. I still considered getting myself one anyway because I feel like it would look great on my résumé. Plus I would never know, if I would need it in the future in case something happened to my current job! What do you think?

It's a driver identification card that is given out to drivers with a clean backround. Of course it's good on your resume.

According to my research and please don't quote me in this I'm still in the process of making sure my information is correct but so far my findings are when you get a TWIC card they do a TSA security background check on you with your fingerprints and all your information that you give them so therefore I would believe a TWIC card would be accepted as a TSA certification

They do a background check but twic is not the same as tsa certification. That one u actually have to take a test for.

It's not really about affording one. It's about, when does a driver finally stop with falling for all the different "must/gotta haves?" Only if you're running same repeat daily. Are all these "must haves". Even necessary. Basically a niche operation. Otherwise just KISS. Keep it simple. Last time I went for the all the full tilt, base passport, mine test certificate pass, full PPE and body suit, High Roof, LWB, 1-ton capacity, late model year compliance, etc etc, I STILL just sat my sorry *ss off with no loads...up to a week!! Yes, sure, full PPE is always good. But even that, without PPE, they just say wait inside your van. But yes, full PPE. Simple no brainer answer: A top notch dispatcher that keeps you loaded with a old school early model, conventional low/shorty cargo. Without special credentials bells and whistles. It's not rocket science. A good dispatcher can book you a 9"x9"x9" 6 pound box to a 4 man machine shop in rural Missouri, requiring no extra credentials. Then advise you 90 minutes out, another asap, 25 minutes away 36" tall 115 lbs. Life is good. It's not in the "hot load" equipment, bells and whistles,, ... it's all in quality dispatching to best accommodate ANY particular outfit/rig/operation. It's the key to success in this business. Have them send you statements of their weekly loads performance. Most will happily share.

Every driver has their own story when just sitting behind the wheel and getting small packages because thats all they can fit in the van, but when you sit down to dispatch and have been doing it for 10 yrs your eyes open and you know more than what driver thinks he knows. I dont have anything to prove to anyone, I suggest and if drivers dont want to use that suggestion thats ok too. Its not me sitting waiting for the right load its the driver at the end of the day. In this market its good to have everything needed to keep moving. Even if its once a month that you need it and it puts $1000 in your pocket thats 12k a year in the plus, and 12 more loads you can be doing vs not doing. But some people think they know better than the people who dispatch all day and night long.

Fall short, at only $94,700. Aw. Bare bones shoestring budget investment. No bells and whistles. That said, what does a guy really need to know about dispatch? No benefit. Just keep me loaded. Even losing my fuel surcharges from multiple brokering, skimming my rate, altered cut and paste rate confirmation info. I'll still survive. I know what's going on behindthescenes, but don't need to. Just load my truck.

80% of cargo vans drivers are cargo van drivers for a reason. They probably cant pass background check to get CDL or twic lol. Or cant pass DOT and drug test
