Good information. My 1st purchase 3 years ago was a dually Mercedes 170 and I had to get a carpenter to make me a retractable platform for between the wheel wells. I lost clearance from the wheel wells to the rear door. It sometimes came in handy for loading but was more often a nuisance. I began to target small straight loads instead and was always cautious about the loads I would book unless it could fit through the side door and then dragged back into the unit. Definitely solid information provided in this video, but of course there wasn't much KZbin back then so it was kinda navigating the business yourself and trial and error. I have since over time purchased a box truck and another Sprinter without the dually rear. Stay Safe, Stay Blessed #LearnBetterDoBetter

My question is on the reliability of the high compression turbo diesel and the ford Ecoboost. From owners I know, all have had extreme issues to deal with that took them out of service for extended periods of time. For this reason specifically I am looking at Ram Promaster with its extremely dependable proven drivetrain. Standard low compression, simple engine with known historical dependability. Every F150 owner with a Ecoboost, and every transit driver I know has had major issues with the turbos and pistons. Long repair times on top of expensive repairs. Same with thr older Sprinters. I have know some vans being out of service for MONTHS. I am not sure if all of these issues have been resolved. But having never owned them it scares the shit out of me. If I got a Mercedes diesel or Ecoboost engine and it went out. If I had to pay out of pocket to get it back up and be out of service for Months. Eating all these costs. It would financially cripple me and probably end me for a long time. Have to work retail to get my ass on my feet again. But that Ram Pentastar 3.6 has decades of reliability. Women across the world beat the living shit out of them far worse than I ever could. In my home state, the state uses them till they get to 150,k miles and then gives them away to charities all over the state. Then those charities beat the shit out of them. Where my wife worked had a fleet of state vans with 250-350,k miles on them. All city driving. Running all day 5 days a week hauling people around to appointments. Treated worse than taxis. KZbin has videos with Promasters with 600,000 miles with no repairs that put them out of order for a month. Though I personally HATE Dodge people. A simple pushrod low compression engine seems like the best bet for my money. If I am wrong. Then please educate me. I am an outsider needing to buy my first commercial vehicle. Though I have years of experience. I have always used employer provided equipment. Now after some life changes. I want to do my own thing as a self employed driver. I have done many miles in Sprinters all over the midwest and I love them. But I never paid a penny to use it. If there were issues. I filled out a ticket, parked it by the shop and grabbed another Sprinter. Obviously that is no longer an option now. I can't have my own fleet. I have some money and I have a shit ton of management experience. What I get has to stay in service for awhile and not shit the bed every month and cost me $$$. Any help and knowledge you are willing to share would be appreciated.

Many a report on the Promaster Vans being a poopcan full of problems....any feedback?
@Eagle-Xpress11 ай бұрын
We have lots of drivers who have Pro Master vans. I would not say they constantly break or break down more than others... Maybe it has to do with us always going log mileage and all freeway driving. Barely any breaking and shifting as you would if it was an Amazon or FedEx used vehicle. Those guys stop and go all day long and maybe some of that statistic comes from those type of delivery vehicles that are used in town.

Loaded from the rear or by the side whatever works
@Eagle-Xpress Жыл бұрын
With dually vans pallets won't slide between the wheel wells and not every shipper will load from the side through the slide door either as many of their forklifts don't leave the building and u can only back up and be loaded from the rear. If ur loaded from the side u can only take 1 pallet if it's a heavy one... All in all dually vans are not for this job and we don't work with them.

I hope you see this question but do company like empire national have requirements on the cargo vans? Like can I use a 2001 Chevy express cargo van or does it specifically have to be sprinters only and newer vehicles? I tried to contact them and can’t get an answer
@Eagle-Xpress9 ай бұрын
Not sure what they require. I know industry standard is vehicle must be under 10 yrs old.... All I've heard is bad complaints about them from drivers. If you can't get answers out of them imagine how it will be when you're working with them and can't get needed answers when delivery or pick up issues come up.

Cargo vans were really built to be for contractors. Not meant to run constantly. All 48 states. Lots of miles quickly. They were only designed to be big toolboxes for local contractors. Like plumbers. Utility companies.

The Savana/Safari vans are probably top of the heap when it comes to durability. I completely agree all of the new models are semi-disposable; read lots of stories about the MBs breaking more often and for big $$ when they do brake, if you can even find MB service.

Without dual tires does it affect weight hauled? What about block of wood size of entire cargo area cutting out wheel wells? 16 ft even floor whole way? Will it make it too short or too much weight?
@Eagle-Xpress Жыл бұрын
Dually vans are just not maid for this work. It's best to just avoid them.
@brkfst4dinner Жыл бұрын
You're talking about building a subfloor. If you do that then you lose some of your height, which limits you in another way. So with a dually basically you can't have height AND width, you'll have to sacrifice one or the other. However, you're more likely to get wider loads or unstackable pallets than the high freight.. so building a subfloor isn't a bad idea. Essentially his advice is to avoid purchasing one if you have a choice, but if you already have a dually then you've got to work with what you have. So build that subfloor in order to fit that wide cargo.. many have done it and operated just fine. You can even find videos here on KZbin about cargo vans with subfloors. Obviously you'll want to have it built correctly because you're putting a lot of weight on it, but totally doable. Mercedes sprinter is recommended but they're sooooo expensive when it comes to maintenance, after all it's a Mercedes. Also insurance is high, and a diesel mechanic is going to be expensive too if you get anything with a diesel engine. I'd say if you haven't purchased a van yet then go with the 250 Transit high roof, can't go wrong with it's cargo capacity and its mpg isn't bad for what it is. Plus with them becoming more popular by the day, you'll never have an issue finding a mechanic to work on it for you.

3500 xd sprinter bit over 10,000 Mercedes vans aren’t trucks you won’t need to go to weight stations and when you get pulled over you’re good they just ask for insurance.

Dually is dual wheels on each side of the van. Needs to be signed wheel on left and right in the rear. 150 is 3/4 ton, 250 is a 1/2 ton and 350 is 1 ton truck. Maybe googling it will get you more educated.
