i think maybe because koreans love these tone of voice or pitch thats why mostly all companies go with this choice even yg makes rose sings nasaly and make her voice more high pitched and cute or even produce 48 winners mostly have high piched voice idk its just a korean thing they seem like just love high pitched voice

I agree, one of the reasons why I can't completely stan Twice's music, is because they all have potential to have some very decent/amazing vocals, but don't have away to access it. I guess it's because JYP is tried to fit their voices with their music style/concept, which was mainly cutesy.

I've been a hard Jeongyeon bias for super long and everything you said was painfully accurate. She is really under-appreciated because her voice just doesn't suit their concept, but damn the pre-debut Jeongyeon in the survival show... that was when she really shined. She was one of the most popular members, (pre-debut survival show era) and dropped to one of the less popular members today. I really feel like the girl-crush concept and cutting her hair short was really forced onto her and that may have deterred a lot of potential fans. Also not to mention her voice. Her voice is like warm honey. It's so smooth and stable, it's honestly quite sad JYP doesn't have the best vocal trainers because Twice has so much potential.

@@beta910 That was in 2019, she never long hair beyond the shoulders before(except for a shoot) so for Fancy she wanted to try(since 2018 she expressed wanting it but she told management would not allow) but in came 2019 she was allowed and when she tried it, she found it difficult to manage, so she concluded she prefers the shorter hair, I am guessing the shoulder-chin length kind of short . Backstory: So during trainee period before Sixteen, she had hair touching her shoulder mid-length (which was her actual length) the management asked her to cut it, so for the show she cut it and she continued cutting it to the pixie hair for debut. 2015-17 she had the really short hair/pixie cut/boy cut because the management wanted Girl Crush, they gave her more tomboyish style clothes and styling like how Fx amber dresses. I don't think she liked that full heartedly. Starting from 2018 the management has eased the stronghold they have on her image, now they cancelled tomboyish/girlcrush but looks like they are trying Mature Formal look, I hate to say this but its like styling for females in their 30's.

funkystyle That makes sense,I think in general JYPE(and tbh most idol entertainment companies) have a strict hold on their idols for their first 3 years of debut.I have noticed that and it’s like a trial period for the group or idol.It is also the period that groups get worked to the bone the hardest. It’s really bad if you ask me because I think gradual build is better for the idol’s health,but I think they are using the first 3 years because that’s when the idols are kind of like “hot off the press” (sorry I sidetracked from what you were saying,but basically I feel bad for her and I hope they have a less strict hold on her)

Jeongyeon did said that she want to try long hair back and she tried it in fancy. But , she also said in Twicelights Seoul concert that , she is going cut her hair short. There are many articles also published for her straight forward statement to Once in that concert , said she wants to that's why. She is comfortable with short hair rather than long hair. Not everyone likes to have long hair.

Jihyo and Jeongyeon have so much potential to become powerhouse vocalists and work their way towards becoming two of the third gen’s strongest vocalists but JYP isn’t capable of helping them improve to that point the way he did with Sunye and Yeeun and it’s really unfortunate

In Twice Seize the Light ep 2, Momo acknowledges her vocal ability and that it is not really good. She said that she was scared to go to vocal classes. Tbh, the amount of lines she gets in Twice is fair for her because she must feel anxious if she gets too many vocal lines.

Jihyo is "average" for a main vocalist because main vocalists are all spectacular singers. Being an average main vocalist means youre still an exceptional singer, its nit picking. Romina Reyes I know she isn’t the best vocalist though. But in her generation, in her company, she is one of the stronger vocalists, and has her main vocalist spot for a reason. My point is that you can say Jihyo isn’t your favorite vocalist or that you like another vocalists voice more, but you can’t be biased and say “I put jeongyeon higher because she has a soothing voice that I like more”, which is something many people do.

I don't know if you know this already but for MOST kpop companies, even if they are signing you to be a rapper all of the artists have to have at least some singing abilities to be signed. Alot of rappers are great singers because some of them initially wanted to be a vocalist but somebody in the group needs to be the rapper and it doesn't have to he the weakest singer but just rather the best rapper. Chaeyoung, joohoney, chanyeol are examples of excellent singers but they are also the best rappers of the group so they didn't get vocalist positions

Being in JYP isn't doing any service to most of these girls any service in terms of developing their singing voice. JYP makes them sing in this half air voice style that he likes. He and his artist have said in numerous videos that that's the signature style of JYP artists and they are all trained to sing in that style. If that style doesn't fit you, well tough luck.

So, I'm not an expert on this topic like you are, but I have to disagree on one point you made about Mina's voice. I think she has one of the most recognizable voices in Twice. Her tone has an extreme softness to it, that I could pick out very early on when listening to Twice. Her's is also my favorite voice in this group along with Chaeyoung and Jeongyeon.

@@dorothy5784 i have to disagree. Of the three, Jihyo has the most developed vocal technique. It's just that Nayeon is more consistently stable, but stability doesn't always mean better technique. Even as a Nayeon stan, I admit that she tends to get shouty and strains in some of her high notes but this is because producers have them sing in pitch that are beyond their comfortable range. Which will lead me back to my main argument of Twice's untapped potential because producers don't exactly utilize their voices in such a way that would show off each member's vocal colors.

Someone asked me this before, I'm not gonna lie I don't like little mix at all. So I won't do a video on them. But my opinion I think would be 4. Leigh Ann - a smooth, flexible if somewhat unremarkable voice, 3. Jessie - not the best technically, but a really unique smokey low mezzo soprano voice with a decent lower tone 2. Jade - classic higher sitting soprano with a strong mixed tone and piercing high notes, good agility 1. Perrie - power singer, most robust fully connected sound, strongest mix with the best fully connected range, also by far the most consistent instrument.

Yea, it’s very sad. Jeongyeon is a criminally underrated vocalist, but I’d argue she’s one of the strongest lead vocalists in the generation. Out of the big 3 gg lead vocalists, I’d say Jeongyeon is the second best, right after Seulgi. Her technique is absolutely amazing and her tone is beautiful. I think if she went to a smaller company like P nation she would be able to show her talent more. Chaeyoung too, both Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung are madly underrated and should go to a smaller company where they have the freedom to show off their amazing talents

There's a lot more to these singers than just "sounding good" and I really appreciate that you're bring awareness to that to an audience that might be less educated musically. I personally like nayeons tone the best tho I do find it to be pitchy and kinda piercing towards the end of her notes like idk how to explain but her voice always sounds like it’s cuz short or something idk it just doesn’t have a smooth finish? Idk I know nothing about vocals but it tends to bother me sometimes 😭

i really like how you explained your ranking, and i can't tell you how much I agree with you on this list, especially on the constant debate about the 3 vocalists and 'who's better'. I can write essays about this. Jihyo is an extremely versatily singer who can reach a wide, wide range. She is a great vocalist. That being said, she is not 100% there in some areas, and I won't even fault her for it. She is already such a stable soprano, but JYP forces even higher notes out of her range that she just cannot reach. Hearing them on live stages is the most unsettling thing. For reference: watch any live performances of "I Want You Back". It amazes just how these gals (nayeon, jeongyeon, jihyo) are being trained. Other than these extremely high notes she definitely has so much soul to her voice and she is so versatile when singing within her range - watch her sing Melting live at the GDA awards. She is so. damn. good. It angers me that she *could be* one of the best singers in kpop right now but she just doesn't have the best technique and frequently sings in this high pitch that would probably ruin her ability in the future. JYP needs to wake up and correct this, he has a force in his hands that could be so much greater than already is. Jeongyeon doesn't have as wide a range as Jihyo, but she is a soprano? She's soprano imo. She is a clear, consistent singer with rich tone and good projection. She fits 'powerhouse' vocals as mentioned, uses the best technique out of the three from what I see, although when singing above her range like Jihyo she lacks control. Also has the potential to be a greater vocalist with better training, especially in terms of control. While we can argue that she fits the cute concept of Twice least she still aces what little material is given to her in each song. Hearing her live is one of the best things of Twice's live stages. I think she would really shine in other groups akin to Mamamoo or Red Velvet... or any other group to be honest, where a voice like hers is desired. Twice will probably always opt for higher, nasally pitch, which just isn't her - but if they were to try a more mature sound Jeongyeon would be the most effective vocalist for that. I also agree that she should be utilized more... it baffles me that a vocalist like her isn't. Other companies would have jumped at the chance for her abilities. Nayeon is interesting because she is a great vocalist, but not extraordinary or above the average. It's most probably how she was trained, but she is always singing evident straining in her voice, singing in such a high pitch and it is not a healthy method at all. Its great I suppose when you hear the recorded version, but when you hear her her live trying to hit these high notes, it just isn't it, and not pleasant. For reference: see any ballads that Twice sings live. She uses this half air/half sound technique that we all know of from the company and more often than not it just doesn't work, and the poor girl has to have playbacks to aid her lines on live performances. See: Melting, to Be As One. It is such a shame, because when you hear her sing her lines in songs in much lower notes she does sound able and great. Her ability to reach this high pitch is what makes her voice distinctive/different and no doubt the reason why JYP treasures her ability to do so, and probably why she sings the most in almost every track of their discography. However, she definitely has a unique color and tone, as does Sana - someone who has unique vocal abilities though way, way less spectacular nor as adequate as Nayeon's- but those two in my opinion have created this high pitched tone that is now trademark Twice sound.

As for Tzuyu, please watch this video of her 5 years ago in their survival show sixteen! She did a cover of sway. Jeongyeon has a great vocal technique and thats what makes her above Nayeon. Nayeon has the widest range of twice which is why she is able to hit those high notes more easier than the rest of the members but as we know range=/= great singer. To support your range you have to have a great technique! She has a good one but not better than Jijyo and Jeongyeon. Jeongyeon has a limited range and she isnt versatile as you said her voice is more for the jazz blues but she knows how to use her voice. (I dont like her tone its to much sugary if you know what I mean). Nayeon improved a lot in this comeback and she has potencial to be better than Jihyo and Jeong if she master a great technique!! Also Nayeon original voice is actually more deep than she shows in the songs bc of twice concept she has to make her voice fit that concept but if you see her voice in sixteen and twice debut its different.

There is no 1st or 2nd Lead Vocal, there has never been any ranks within vocalists of the same level. They are both just Lead Vocals with Nayeon's voice used more in Twice. See most classically trained or knowledgeable person will place Jeongyeon higher than Nayeon and Kpop stans who rank them based on their own ear will rank Nayeon higher. Having wider vocal range and hitting high notes mean nothing to Trained Vocal experts if Technique is incorrect- thats Nayeon's high notes in a nutshell. Jeongyeon has the same basics of Nayeon but she doesn't excessively use her vocal cords for high notes using incorrect technique. She usually stays within her own capabilities. Jeongyeon is a more Technique based singer than Nayeon hence why you see this ranking. jeongyeon has overall a more consistent technique, better pitch accuracy, she is less thin, less airiness issues, less nasality issues ( nayeon's nasality isn't bad but limits her projection ), better placements, better breath support, better overall support so yeah I guess he is right.
