Looks great! I’ll be grilling a steak over mesquite coals this evening using my Firebox stove. Hopefully, I’ll be able to find some big enough chunks to make coals.

Hi, what are mesquite coals? I've not heard of that. Steak sounds great, can't beat it grilled, I was going to grill the bacon at the end but not any coals from the twigs😅

@@northernembersoutdoors1045 Hey! Been traveling, so I couldn't answer right away. Mesquite is a hardwood in the desert Southwest of the US and I believe other arid climates in the world. It is popular for grilling and smoking as it adds a unique flavor to the meats. I love using the Firebox as a personal BBQ grill if I'm just cooking for myself.

Great video Chris! It illustrates a fast moving cooking scenario especially when you are setting up the camera between clips. The video I just posted this morning was exactly the opposite as I was using hot coals from the previous nights fire. In my scenario I was required to have patience. In yours being on the ball was key. You did a great job with the hand you were dealt. Kind of like life sometimes you can't miss a beat other times you have to slow down and trust the process. Lol! I must be getting old speaking as though everything's an opportunity to gain depth of understanding. Oops there I go again😮😅😂😊

Thanks Steve, ha yes, those twigs burned like rockets, I looked in the Firebox and they were almost gone, frantically put more in, but that's the fun of it, I feel like I'm living in that moment, the fire becomes a focus, I'm checking out your video soon, from the post you put up earlier sounds like you had a great time out. I fell off that rock ledge but didn't capture it on film😅, great fun, that Firebox goes from strength to strength, you must be extremely proud, good stuff, Cheers Chris

Another great quick cooking! Haha, your wife is a clairvoyant. I made fried potatoes and a fried egg on my bushbox in the woods the other day. I always take a wooden spatula with me for the egg. Thanks for the fern ;-)
@northernembersoutdoors10458 ай бұрын
Thanks very much, I grabbed things quickly and forgot the spatula😅, fried potatoes sounds good, simple cooking eh, plenty of ferns about here now, everything is just really starting to grow, thanks for watching again, Cheers Chris
@MarcusManig8 ай бұрын
@@northernembersoutdoors1045Yes, I cut the potatoes into cubes about 1 to 1.5 cm in size so that they fry evenly and quickly. Always (constantly) move them around in the pan. Season at the very end of frying.

Did I hear a grouse at the start there Chris? Nice moors there, great way to spend some time. Cheers.

I was walking along off track Gregor past dead bracken when I heard this hissing. It would have been a grouse sitting on eggs. Funny thing was I wouldn't of known if it was there if it had remained quiet. Anyway I left quickly as not to disturb it😎

Hello Mr. Embers! Completely impossorous to compete with the view here in the colonies. Darn shame that my forebearers got ran off from your digs awhile back. All compliments to the chef. Only one foopaux that we could see. Unknown to you, that meat you were cooking is NOT bacon (not even fatback....mebbe flatback?) ....at least no sort of pig belly known in 'murica. Real bacon comes in long strips... not flat wiggly pieces like that. Could you have picked up the calamari by mistake? Otherwise, the eggs looked quite familiar. Carry on, wild chef of the mountains! Carry on for our delight and enjoyment! Best to the missus! Your bestest fans in Alabam, Norm and Vicky

Hi Norm, I did nearly grab the what we call streaky bacon here, it has a lot more fat in it and probably is more tasty, in fact I think next time I'll get it, just to prove to you in the colonies that we have the real deal here to😎. Thing is there's so many nice places here that I'm still to get to, it's really just the cost and travel in my car which is getting older but I will get out there, so even nicer scenery acoming sir. As always many thanks for a great comment, Cheers Chris

Thanks a lot. There's a farm shop near St Andrews called balgave larder, and in there they sell quite a bit of cast iron, it's where I got my cast iron BBQ from and also this, not sure of the name but it sure is good to cook with, thanks for watching the videos and the support, Cheers Chris
