@SonAndHeir well, if the script is good or the actors are allowed to improvise now and again that can make a hell of a difference. Very bad example is the Star Wars Prequel "I don't like sand". The actors are really great, the script is quite trashy. Pattinson is an amazing actor with a great resume in his back. I'm just amazed that he was able to shovel his way out of this stereotype. The funniest thing I've heard Rob Pattinson say about it is during the scene when Bella is being confronted by these guys in the city, and he tears in with his car and frightens them off. He said that Edward is supposed to give them this look of pure, atavistic rage, something that really frightens them... and he's there in his pea coat and white make-up, and what can he do? He was laughing the entire time he talked about it. It would've been much more effective if we hadn't seen his face at all, just their reactions. Catherine Hardwicke had very little budget to play around with but she did the best with what she had and there is a certain low budget and indie charm to it. The sequels were of course made with much more money and it shows.

The whole scene where Charlie has new tires put on the truck reminds me of something I read once. Basically when you talk to your dad and he asks how your car's running, that's his way of showing he loves you. Because men (the good ones) want to protect, and making sure your vehicle is safe is their way of making sure you're safe. And I think back to all the times my daddy asked how my car was running or made sure the oil was changed, tires were good, etc. and it makes me sniffly. Urgh. As a 13 year old I loved this story. Now I think it's just bad with a side of dangerous. Just imagining little girls thinking that this is the high of romance and later Jacob not giving a f*** about consent or the grooming part in the later movies. It just makes me sick. The only really good character in this is Charlie, the poor man...

@Yules lol get over what? The only thing fun about the movie was the idea of vampires and wolves. Bella was depressed and willing to give up her whole life for someone she had known for about a week. There’s nothing cute or fun about that. The color and the hues of the movie are depressing also, the set, the town all of it. You don’t have to compare it to real life to see that it’s toxic you just need common sense. I’m not saying I hated the movie I liked it and I would watch it again but I’m not gonna lie to myself and act like it’s some philosophical think piece or a feel good movie that teaches a lesson.
@allegraanegra4553 жыл бұрын
@@Prince_the_One that’s not why he loved her it was because he “couldn’t see what was on her mind” but the point is she was ready to give up her life meaning she wanted to be a vamp so bad she was ready to leave behind family and friends. @@Prince_the_One have you even read/watched New Moon? Where doesn't she want to give her life up for Edward is the better question. Sorry, but this relationship is unhealthy. And Jacob not grooming Renesmee? He plans to be her lover one day. Tell me, that this is not grooming, because it's the definition of that. Or what was his name... Quil? Embry? The one with the 2 year old? Honestly that disgusted me even as a teenager. "He has to wait a few years?" I was like "Say what now?" Damn, even Edward called Jacob at some point son. This is grooming. Being a constant in a child's life to influence them in a particular direction is grooming. For parents that is called parenting, but someone that plans a relationship and is about 17 or 18 years older? Think of it as if a teacher told himself "right now I'm just a teacher for that little child and right now I don't want anything more, but I plan to be in his/her life and be whatever they need me to, even as a lover at some point" and that teacher is about 20 years older. That is grooming.

These movies were my life when I was a teenager. Looking back now, I know how ridiculous that was. But at the same time... I’m so protective of them. They really got me through high school. I made friends because of them. They made me happy at the time and I still have an insane amount of nostalgia for them. Don’t get me wrong, I know how bad they are. I know that Bella and Edward’s relationship wasn’t good. But I never looked at them as “couple goals” anyway. I think I latched onto these movies (and books) during a difficult time in my life and used them as escapism. It was easier to think about them instead of having to deal with real life if that makes sense. Which like, wasn’t healthy but I can’t change that now. But I’ll always view these movies through slightly rose-tinted glasses. Like I can see the flaws but I love them anyway. The thing about Twilight is that I was, for lack of a better word, obsessed with it for like... 4 years? I have insane knowledge of these movies and books. And it’s been a long time since I’ve watched them but I bet I could quote a majority of all 5 movies. Like watching this video I just found myself answering the questions you had out loud like I was being quizzed. It’s kind of crazy how much I still remember. Like in one of the movie commentaries Robert Pattinson actually made the “I’m Batman” joke which is kind of ironic. I moved on from this franchise a long time ago. But I’m excited to watch your reactions to the rest of the movies. The best thing by far to come out of this franchise were the soundtracks. I actually used to have the song from when Bella and Edward arrive at school together as my ringtone. So as well as everything else, these movies also introduced me to great music. Good luck with New Moon, I hope it’s not a spoiler to say it’s my least favourite of them all, book and movie wise.

If the series helped you make friends and got you through a difficult time in your life by bringing you happiness, then that’s awesome regardless of what other people think. FYI, there is a new-ish Twilight book told from the perspective of Edward. I borrowed it from my friend and read like 10 pages so far. My friend listened to the audiobook and she said a lot of it is Edward going emo like, "she hates me! Wait she doesn't? But I'm a vampire how could she possibly like me?" This is also how he describes Bella when first meeting her (and I'm copying directly from the book): "Somehow, this girl looked more fragile than her new classmates. Her skin was so translucent it was hard to believe it offered her much defense from the outside world. I could see the rhythmic pulse of blood through her vein under the clear, pale membrane... But I should not concentrate on that."

I get that there's a specific lore about them in how they look, but people go "vampires aren't supposed to sparkle!" as if vampires actually exist and this movie's offensive to them.
