nah I will tell you why... The Kowloon walled city is based in the 1990s back then there was no MMA kinda thing so its more traditional fighting chereo here again its just a movie

Strictly speaking. This is a Wuxia movie...not boxing movie. They cover a wide range of martial arts styles, often blending real-world techniques with fantasy elements. That's why the action looks exaggerated. Key elements of wuxia include: Chivalry, Qi Gong, Brotherhood. So I have to disagree with you there. They're not as bad as you say. They just used traditional martial arts film culture.

The action director is Kenji Tanigaki. He worked with Donnie Yen before, and learned a lot from him. Kenji Tanigaki is famous for directing the action fight scene for the Japanese Rurouni Kenshin movie franchise. That was one of the best adaptation of anime to live action in Japanese anime history. Kenji Tanigaki is a great action director. The first time I watched this movie, I noticed some same fight sequence, then I realized, it was Kenji behind directing the scene. The fighting in this movie was done very well. They did the right thing to invite Kenji to direct this movie fight sequences, since this movie is adapted from Chinese wuxia novel, therefore, the crew want the fight sequence to look like something from comic, and yet at the same time feel realistic. For example, in this scene, in director's mind, he only want the main character to get punch and then landed on the wall, but action director changed a bit, and add spinning to the main character when he get punch, to showcase how the character Tornaodo can use tornado punch and sent his opponent spinning, that was actually brilliant. No one can do that better than Kenji Tanigaki.
