to really light this thing up you have to light all door panels and get "lost in the zone". 6 ball multiball with all games active. it's an easy 300 million points. I have had this game at home for 20 years. Greatest pinball ever!

When I first got mine, I didn't quiet understand it. Over time, regularly playing it, reading about the rules & having a deeper understanding of the game I now understand why people say it's the ultimate pinball machine. Other pins I've played in the past became boring but The Twilight Zone is a keeper for sure. I've had mine for over 10 years & still love playing it. Over the years I may of put a cover over it for a short while but each time I take the cover back off and see how beautiful this machine looks & plays, it always puts a smile on my face.

Bowen Kerins, you, Kieth Elwin and Neil Shatz are all my top three favorite players. I LOVE to watch you guys play and I incorporate your tutorials into my gameplay. Just wanted to say, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

While I have respect for Bowen Kerins (he could outplay me with his eyes closed & hands tied behind his back), I still have to point out that this really isn't a tutorial on how to play TZ. At no point has he mentioned LITZ or the point of obtaining the 14 doors (and how) in order to get to litz. He just focused on getting multiballs. He didn't mention the 2 MAIN ways of starting modes (ie, get ball in lit piano to start next flashing door/mode or get ball into lit slot machine to start a random door/mode. And that's just 1% of this great game! Again, nothing but respect for Bowen Kerins, but this vid needs to be revised/re-filmed.

While your right his tutorials have an explicit focus on competitive play which is only about what makes the most points.
@FloydMaxwell6 жыл бұрын
@donov25 - That is simply not the case. Guardians he plays two games with completely different methods. Many other games he does this as well. Nonetheless, this is the "worst" tutorial Bowen has ever done, probably, because he was trying so hard to beat Roy's score. I found it enjoyable nonetheless.

Unfortunately, Twilight zone scoring is imbalanced. Playing for high score as in competition dictates collecting 40-50-60-70-80-90M jackpot sequences and ignoring the modes. Without extra balls disabled, you do want to start them so you can collect them from the door panel and super skill shot for every fifteen door panels. Unfortunately, even with Lost In The Zone their contribution to the score isn't material. The drain risks are non zero from bumper and 5M target hits. Misses on the piano, clock target, and slot machine can also be fatal. Trap one or two balls on the lower left flipper. With the slot machine scoop not bent and standard inclination, you can trap the other ball on the lower right flipper. Shoot right flipper to left orbit where the left spiral magnet will catch the ball. Make the upper left flipper to camera shot. Trap the ball coming out of the slot machine on the lower right flipper. Shoot the left orbit where the right magnet will catch the ball. Shoot the camera using the upper right flipper. Repeat 40-50-60-70-80-90-90.... The metal flipper opto interrupters provide good separation between the upper and lower flipper activation points so independent control is easy. Playing for LITZ champion, the relevant modes help some but your total is almost entirely Powerball Mania jackpots. Unfortunately, mine (acquired in 2000) is currently in storage. I need to find some space at my office and set it up.

You're partially right, but this was one of those cases where he ended up having a really good game, and I don't thinking anyone can begrudge him for forgetting to explain the game and focusing on just playing this one out.

@@dreweckhardt Where I play, the slot machine spits out the ball differently every time and very dangerously sometimes. Depending on its mood or is temperature :D

This was awesome to watch! I’ve barely played pinball but always thought they were cool machines :)
@shaunmcisaac7828 жыл бұрын
My hint for this: With the ball on the left flipper, backhand left ramp, right ramp, player piano, dead bounce to left flipper trap, repeat. Each time through is 10,000,000 "3 way combo award" plus a door panel and some robots. Once mastered, you can get to LITZ fairly easily, at least on recreational settings. I believe this is a safer way to play since the ramps + piano keep the ball away from the left and right outlanes.
@bassplayer2011ify7 жыл бұрын
yep i pick up on this really quick and if you can dial those three shots in you can make it to LITZ easily. And then multiball and PBM are just icing on the cake.
@shaunmcisaac7828 жыл бұрын
When battling the power, it's better to hammer 2-3 times quickly on the flippers than it is to try and tap-tap-tap your way to victory. By tapping I can beat the power maybe 12% of the time, but hammering is effective > 60%. (I've confirmed this behavior on 3 different 'machines' - 1 in Laconia NH, 1 in Pelham NH, and pinball arcade off steam.) Hammering has the bonus of additional side to side action that gives an award of ~1M per hit during the battle. Y'all might want to give it a try. Basically you want to multi-tap the flips any time the ball is at or below the top of the red circles. Repeat until you blow up a pyramid or two. Since this awards a door panel, it's super helpful towards getting Lost In The Zone. It also avoids the bumpers, which are terrifying and drainy.

I was just reading through an old copy of Leisure Line from 1993, and discovered something quite interesting: a fax, from Bowen Kerins to an Australian pinballer named Cameron Silver, detailing this game in the days after its release (it was not in Australia yet). Fascinating to see how quickly Bowen picked it as an all-time great and noted that drains out of the pop bumpers were "rare". (Didn't that opinion change?)
@nemesis0417 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, that jet bumper opinion turned Topsy-turvy. Another fun fact, Cameron Silver, assuming that's the same guy I'm thinking of, was also the main programmer of Cirqus Voltaire and the co-programmer of Scared Stiff.

There's a small tip with multiball: Jackpot will be doubled if you happen to collect it with Powerball rather than the normal pinball. If I had the Poweball in play while Multiball is ready, I would simply start the multiball with it, rather than shooting the gumball machine.

got a TZ at home since last week, first pinball, can be frustrating at times, I have yet to go over 300M points, but I'll get there eventually. I really need to learn more ball save techniques as the ball drains way too easily on this pinball !

Well played. I think powerball lane is easier than regular lock. I will play this on tournament soon. However, up on the power zone you performed poorly, no goals were there. What are the best tactics there? Everyone says different things about it.

I know there's no comparing a physical machine with a digital one, having played my fair share of arcade pinballs while out and about. But I got this as part of the Pinball Arcade collection on PS4... In no uncertain terms, *GOD I hate it.* Trying to do the Bally challenge and get a miserable 125 mill on it, there's just no way I can, and I've got all the helpful bits left in! Watching you play has given me some ideas on what to do, so hopefully I'll have a better grasp on it. Thanks for a great game!
@slob50412 жыл бұрын
ancient post but you have to actually push the table down in that game to get things out of the left and right outlane because of how the physics work.
@SpiderWaffle10 жыл бұрын
Which is the "next shot down" he refers to at 9:09, does he mean just letting the ball fall out of the power field? Is there a time limit on that shot to get the jackpot or do you have to have at least 2 balls in play? Also, is there any objective scored by knocking down all the pyramids in the power field, I think it starts at 20? I asked a local avid player and that was one only things he hasn't figured out, just knew you got some decent extra points for knocking some down.
@0901jms10 жыл бұрын
I think it's making the camera shot while there are at least two balls on the table. That's where the magnaflip balls go, so if you make it the m/c thinks you've landed the jackpot. Had this machine over 12 years and I don't know about that pyramids issue!
@DaBombNL6 жыл бұрын
No, "next shot down" towards the floor. There is no switch to detect the ball in the top exit to the power field, so it falls through into 'the camera' and hits that switch. He cheated by shooting the camera while there was a ball in the power field.

This game is now out for fx. while it's a bit buggy now (hopefully the bugs will get fixed) it's a lot harder than TPA's version. But bumper to outlaen draisn aren't super common (but they CAN definitely happen). the slot kickout is very consistent, and balls do not bounce out of the lock.

Speel jij ook weleens Pinball Arcade? is natuurlijk nooit zoals de echte ervaring maar toch een leuke simulatie:) groeten en nice score trouwens op Twilight Zone.

you let it come out then hit the slot machine with the left flipper or the piano, rinse and repeat. zero flow. the only safe way seems to be minimizing bumper shots at much as possible, meaning 2 of those shots aren't valid.
