My parents did that when I was 10 lol but we’re a family of seven so I was Cheshire Cat, my mom was the Queen of Hearts, my dad was Mad Hatter, my older sister was Alice, my younger sister was the Caterpillar, and my little brothers were Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee. But my brothers didn’t like being called Tweedle-dum so we called them the Tweedles. We’ve also done the whole Scooby gang catching bad guys. One of my brothers and I were dressed as zombies but without the masks on and had ropes wrapped around us. It was pretty great aside from when I actually had to do something, hard to move when you can’t 😂

Since Maisy hates synthetic uncomfortable fabrics, you can just make (or have made) the costume you want for her in a softer fabric. She could still be Tinkerbell for example, but have her dress made in cotton or something.

To help with Maisy’s texture aversion with clothing you can try putting summery/thin plain white (or whatever solid color you want) pjs on her under the costume. That way very little of the costume is actually touching her skin. We do that here in Michigan usually like heavy sweatpants because Halloween is cold as hell here.

i seriously love seeing flynn express himself how he wants. a lot of the time, parents wouldn’t let their boys wear an owlette costume, because the original character was a girl, or the fact that he loves gabbys dollhouse, which is normally shown as a “girls show”. it’s so cool seeing you completely accept him and what he wants to do/be

One tip for kids who have fabric texture sensitivities- put long leggings on them, not tights, but thicker leggings or even sweatpants, and it will keep the texture of the costume away from their skin. This was the cutest video ever!!

A family idea could be using the Sea Creature theme! Colleen could be a mermaid, Erik as Triton or a shark, Flynn as a crab or the octopus since he loved it so much, and Wesley can be the cute starfish. Maisy might do well as a fish or whale if that’s easy to find and not uncomfortable for her! I hope I helped

I'd be curious to hear her parents talk about it too! It was really common for Christians not to celebrate Halloween in the 80s, 90s, early 2000s because celebrating a holiday centered around spooky things clashed with teachings about Satan and demons. It wasn't seen as "just for fun," but rather as a way that Satan was trying to slither his way into people's lives and turn them away from God. I grew up thinking Halloween was Satan's birthday and couldn't figure out why people would celebrate such an evil day 😂 (My parents didn't tell me this - probably heard it from a friend)

the kids could be bugs and you and Erik could be bug catchers! Like you guys could carry around giant nets. It could be an easy costume for Maisey since she doesn't like a lot of costumes because you could just find like ladybug or butterfly wings or something simple and then put her in a cute solid color dress (or if you stick with the lady bug theme get a red dress or pants and top and paint black spots on it) that way she's comfy cuz she would just be wearing normal clothes
