It's always the little things that slow a process down. Good job Kevin

I really enjoy the detail you give on each step, perfection in your art of engine building. Well I am thinking about bring my engine to you and make it a 117 from a 110. I will be contacting you soon. Take care Luis

I would love to be able come down to your shop and hang with you and helping with the assembly of my own engine. You still remember how to put together an EVO Kevin?

Oh i love me some Evos.

Hello Kevin. In your opinion, which cam should I run on a TC 117? Looking for a nice sound at idle, lower end torque/power in the middle. More for a really fun touring bike than a hot rod.

@Kevin Baxter Q: Ever tear down one of your own engines after a good amount of mileage? Up for a 100,000 mile build challenge? Be cool content to see one of your builds torn down with 100K!

I have for inspection purposes when we make radical changes to part designs...lets call it quality control. Some have had 75,000 miles or more. I think the highest mileage I've taken down to inspect, was a 113 Twin Cam...the guy is a well known street racer here in the SE and he beat the fool out of it. His had 115,000 on it. A few years ago, I honed the cyls .005, put in a new set of pistons, cleaned a bit of carbon from the chambers, and put it back together. He's still riding it today.

Seen a 131 crate engine! Brand new cam side run out 5 thousands? What would cause this is it the same crank as twin cam 103?

Very informative video. Being in Connecticut, I enjoyed seeing your Bridgeport milling machine at work. Really nice machines.

Workhorses for sure. Properly cared for, they last many lifetimes. Folks forget...machines like that made parts that got us to the moon and back. ;)

Do you have a shop kit for a 04 TC 88 to a 117?
@KevinBaxter Жыл бұрын
not really a kit per se. most of what we do now is for each customer. however, if you sent heads, i could do those, and supply cyls/pistons/cams and set it up for you.

I have a extremely important tech question, I have a 2004 H-D Screaming Eagle 103” RoadKing Classic and I am thinking about buying a 09/10? Twin cam 103” motor to put in my bike while I take my time rebuilding and up grading the S.E. 103” in it. Will the 09/10 twin cam 103” fit in my motorcycle?
@davewoodman28672 жыл бұрын
Why not measure the lifter bore and the lifter instead of "feeling " the fit?

So this engine started as a twin cam 110? Need more details on how you went to 117?? Is this your “in house” kit or ?? I like it ❤
@KevinBaxter2 жыл бұрын
Yes...we do have our own in house parts, parts we designed, and mods we make. Basically, it's using the stock 4.375 stroke crank and changing rods (or new crank of same stroke), boring cases, installing a 4.125 bore cylinder. And you have a 117.

How much more 💵💵💵💵 labor change “ ….if you help…” ?😉 ( by the time I will be ready to do my build, it will be a 10 year wait?! 😕 )

LOL....being it takes 2 to 3 times longer to build it, and it's an experience that comes with an education....there is more cost involved for sure. Thanks for watching.

A little off topic but I though I would ask you this question. I have been building racing engines for 30 yrs. engines from 10k to 100k. Why in the hell does Harley run 50wt oil in there engines? Heavy weight oils are used in Babbitt bearing engines for Shear strength And larger clearances.There is no Babbitt bearings in a Harley engine, so why the heavy weight oil. The whole Harley engine is roller bearing. If you don’t need the sheer strength in the oil the thinner oil cools better. I have been running 10w30 in my Harley engines for 15 years the temperatures are cooler in the engine it revs better, sounds better and ware is better. Me 200hp 153 has been on 10w30 for 3 yrs and it looks great when I tore it down to do some tweaking. Looks like it never ran lol. The only thing I can think of is being mast produced and clearances are shit that they run the heavier weight oil to save their ass. Thank Kevin, you are one of the only guys on KZbin that I see that knows his stuff. I cringe watching most other guys try to do tech lol.
@KevinBaxter2 жыл бұрын
Only thing i would run SAE50 in would be Shovelhead and back. Since 2006, mechanical bearings have slowly been removed. Things like crank pinion shaft and cams in the cam plate, rocker arms, etc are not on rollers. That said....in a tight clearance engine, sure, lighter oils are fine, but as you said in most cases, a little thicker 20W50 quietens them down quite a bit. Thanks for the kind words and support sir. All the best.
