Twin Girls Get Their First Haircut

Our four year old twin girls have never ever had their haircut. We choose as a family to give lots of space for body autonomy. They didn't want just a trim!!!

Loved all your haircuts. Though this is the first video of yours I've seen the cuts seem to go with their personalities. Also loved that you let them choose rather they cut their hair or not and how short they got it. Random story. In high school (sophmore or junior year) I had long hair (always hated long hair). One day my mom went to get her hair done and I asked if I could get mine cut, She asked how short, so I montioned just below my ear. She didn't like it, but we made a deal. She would let me get my hair cut short if I wore a dress once a week to school (also really hate dresses). I agreed to the deal and wore the dress on the shortest day of the school week. Since then I've had cut my hair shorter (above the ears) and love it. Even my mom has come to terms with it, though she still wishes I had long hair at times.

I’m sorry you had to compromise to do what you wanted with your hair! That’s exactly why we give autonomy. It’s not my hair to choose what to do with, it’s theirs. I’ve even had people go so far as to say “did your husband say it was ok to cut off all your hair?” Ummm what??? It’s not his hair!!! I’m glad you keep a hair cut you love despite what others say!

Thank you! And yes absolutely Firefly inspired. Their younger sister is named Inara. The source material is kind of hilarious because the cuts they got were nothing like what they asked for. 🤦🏻‍♀️ but they were happy so I let them be happy :)

Anyone who says they look like boys pretty much all kids their age look like humans and other than under their pants there is no difference. I have a friend and he had long hair for a long time and no one told him he looked like a girl. What's with this? We tell girls with short hair that they look like boys but boys with long hair don't get called out on it. We all are humans and these girls are so beautiful

Figured he'll live always does lol and in about a month it will be a bit longer but my hair will be growing back 10times better and healthy even gave up crazy colors had crazy colors for years now back to pretty much my natural color lol dark Chocolate brown I'm in heaven 😍 as long as u and your girls love there hair who cares

They have autonomy for their hair. They asked to cut it short, gave me pretty rational reasons why they didn’t want long hair, and I waited a month to make sure it wasn’t a knee jerk reaction to me cutting my hair. It’s just hair. 🤷🏻‍♀️ it grows back. And it’s their choice because it’s their hair. No one loses their minds when boys get short hair cuts. Women are not required to have long hair to be beautiful.

Speaking poorly about a child choosing their own hair style is one of the lower choices you can make. 🤷🏻‍♂️ it doesn’t change our choice to let them be autonomous. Their hair is STILL short and they’ve asked to dye it.

My daughter had waist long hair for 3 years (6 years old now). Because school was starting she wanted a new hair cut, just below her ears. Grandparents were not happy. (Stepmother here so they thought I was being mean to her) but one day to grandmother face she said "I was tired of the knots and pulling it out of my shits every day." Just today she told me she wants her hair shorter, she wants it all off, I'm not ready for that. I'm happy I found this video because now we came to the agreement that she will have it this short till Middle School if she wants to keep her hair short.

I love seeing them distracted by that toy. For many kids, nothing but electronics even does the trick anymore. Also nice to see little girls not obsessed with having long hair. And kudos to mom for letting them have the haircuts they wanted.

We aren’t a screen free home but we definitely do lots of things other than screen time. :) They hated long hair! Their hair was slow to stow so it never needed brushing until age 3. They sobbed every time I brushed it because it hurt their scalp no matter how gentle I was. When I cut my hair short they were ecstatic and immediately wanted theirs gone. Lol

We aren't screen free either, but it sometimes concerns me how addicted some kids are. The ones that NEED a screen shoved in their face all the time or they'll scream and cry. Awe, the poor things must have really sensitive scalps. So many people seem hung up on girls need to have long hair or at least a "feminine" shorter cut. Sure their long hair was cute, but I'm seriously annoyed by people thinking little girls have to be "pretty" and deal with hair they do not want on their heads for the sake of that when little boys can get a shaved head. It sends the wrong message to little girls.

I completely agree with you. It blows my mind the audacity people in public have. They have had strangers literally say “why did you cut all your hair off you must’ve been so beautiful with long hair!” Society has a long way to go in learning to value women as equals and important for more than their appearance and bodies. I strive to raise women who will challenge those norms with knowledge :)

They are both VERY into frozen and are wanting to grow it out so they can have a braid like Elsa. However it’s getting to the point of needing daily brushing and I don’t know how long they will tolerate that. 😬 So we will see! It’s currently about at their jawline.

I think short hair on little girl's is a great idea. I had my 4 girls hair cut short recently and my husband and I love it and they also love it. No more crying in the morning when it's time to brush their hair that's for sure, so for now my husband and I have both agreed to keep their hair very short.
