I've test driven both the EQA (Premium Plus) and the Smart #1 Brabus in the past few weeks. I think the exterior styling is entirely subjective. Some people will like one and some the other. the same goes for the interior. They have very different styles but the difference in build quality is minimal. If I had to be picky, I'd say the EQA just about has the edge on build quality but only by a minuscule amount. I did find the Smart steering wheel a little bit uncomfortable. It's hard to describe but it's not tube-shaped. Instead it has something of a ridge that can slightly dig into the palm of your hand. Clearly the Smart (Brabus) wins on performance and price. If you're a cash buyer, the Smart is a lot cheaper. On finance, the price difference isn't quite as much once you factor in the current Mercedes 0% finance offer and £4,500 discount (and the extra £2,000 the dealership offered me.) On a four-year PCP deal, the monthly cost was almost the same (Premium Plus vs Brabus.) If you're considering buying either of these two cars and you're not instantly won over by the Brabus' performance I really think it's simply down to personal preference. The Smart infotainment system with its avatars, animations and constant sounds drove me nuts. As would the inability to disable some of the driving assistance features without them becoming reenabled next time the car is started. On the other hand, the EQA styling, interior and exterior is very sedated. Less quirky and 'fun' than the Smart. Some might even call it boring. I watched this review before I test drove the cars. It wasn't until I tried each of them that I made my decision, though I still came away knowing, with almost certainty, that other potential buyers would come to the opposite conclusion.
