TWIN TROLLER X10 - HULL REPAIR
I removed the skeg under the Twin Troller X10 when I installed the reverse pitch propeller on the port or left side of my Twin Troller. In this video I show how and what I used to do the hull repair for the screw holes in the hull of my Twin Troller.
This is not difficult to do and is an easy do it yourself project.

lunker012 I did something dumb. I bought a john boat trailer from academy. The bolts sticking out of the bunk board was sticking out and caught it. It made a small hole. But I already ordered the 3m marine stuff from amazon. Thanks again

Great video, Lunker012. For those watching, what happened to lunker012 is rare, rare, rare. Maybe 1 in 1000. However, he is correct that new 2017 Twin Troller's do not have the skeg/rudder. The new reverse pitch prop eliminates the need for it. If you have an older Twin Troller, get the new prop ($50), remove the rudder, get some 3m 4200, put a little in the holes, replace he screws, and you're good to go.

I agree, I have had my TT for over two years and never had any such problems. The truth is I sank the trailer too far in the water and when I put the boat on the bunks the rear floated sideways causing the skeg to come out of the water with the skeg on one of the bunks. I was then too lazy to pick up the boat and put the skeg between the bunks. I just pushed hard with my hip and tried to slide the skeg across the carpeted bunk. I should have know better but I have an excuse. I am getting old! Replacing that original prop with the reverse pitch was something I do not regret doing. I should have removed the skeg when I did that.

I sent a question on your site about getting that new prop. Definitely something I'd consider doing even though I have never had a problem with the skeg in over seven years of fishing it harder than most people that own $80,000 boats.

Randy, until David told me new boats no longer have a skeg on the hull I did not know that either. With the reverse pitch propeller it is not needed so I removed mine and he was right it works great without it. I bet you are counting down the days to get the TT. You are going to be happy when you do. I am very happy with mine and would buy it again tomorrow.

I just did the same thing yesterday. I guess I had my trailer in the water a little too far and my TT's skeg ended up sitting on top of the bunk board. My skeg broke off. I am going to order the new reverse pitch prop but I made plans to go out again tomorrow with a friend. I'm going to my local Bass Pro Shop to see if they have the 3M stuff. If not, there is a boat/marine store a little farther away that should have it in stock. I'll end up removing the skeg completely once I get that new prop. Thanks for the info.

Grey PVC pipe at hardware store for base with a regular one inch PVC T for a handle can work on most bottoms. Any good adhesive will get those two pieces together. I put rope through the T handle and use a loop knot with carabiner on other side to keep it in place.

good job repairing it, also how do you like the new motor and does it go better without a skeg than one with an old style motor with a skeg thank you

Michael, I have always had the Honda 2.3 on my boat since day one. (well over two years now) I have never had a problem with it. I did not think the skeg was a problem in the past but since I do not have it any more I noticed in heavy marsh areas I slide over things easier than I did when there was a skeg on the boat. I took some video recently of me driving right through heavy bullrush and tall reeds like a bulldozer going through a forest with small trees. I know not having a skeg allowed me to do that better than before. I will try to find the time to post that video soon. Gerry

lunker012 do you like having the Honda? I am picking up the Honda 2.3 tomorrow. This is probably a dumb question, do you take the motor off while transporting or does it stay clamped on?
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 7 жыл бұрын
EDC, yes I like the Honda 2.3. I have not had problems with it at all. In fact, I have been amazed that I can take it through Kissimmee grass (which is a tough stick like weed) for short distances as long as it is not crazy thick. For a small motor it gets me where I want to go. You cannot pull water skiers with it or set any speed records but it is a pulling machine for it's size. I wish it was a little quieter but it is tolerable. I like that it has an on board fuel tank. Look at my other videos. I use two extra fuel bottles that each hold about the same as the on board tank and with them I can cover many miles in a day. I never used all my fuel in one trip but it is nice to know I have it if I need it. Those bottles are spill proof and pour well into the on board tank while on the water and they store well on each side of the motor. When on the trolling motor, I frequently tip up and lock the motor into the horizontal position. I am usually fishing in heavy marshes so leaving the Honda in the down position would catch on every weed I go by. When transporting the boat on the trailer I always have it in the down or vertical position. When I am fishing alone I always remove the back seat and alone is the only way I use the Honda. If I am fishing with a friend I leave the Honda at home to make more room in the boat for two people and because I am fully on the electric I do not travel many miles like I do with the Honda. When I am alone, with the back seat out, I want to be sitting in the center area of the boat when operating the Honda. Because of that I have an extension on my Honda throttle handle as you can probably see in some of my videos. You do not have to use a handle extension, it just works better for me. I hope I answered your questions, if not get back with me. Good luck, Gerry

lunker012 awesome thanks. Yes I've watched your videos. I picked up the fuel canisters as well as the fire extinguisher today. So you have no issues leaving the Honda clamped onto the boat while transporting on trailer? Awesome. Thanks for your videos and feedback. My next project is the bilge pump and pvc guide poles for my trailer

I was wondering about that skeg getting tangled in Lilly pads and dragging them along with the boat
@LunkerFishing

I am on a boat launch right now I was fishing this morning and there was absolutely no difference with the skeg on or off. I never had problems with the skeg catching on Weeds but possibly that was happening under the boat and I did not know it. I don't have it on there anymore so that issue is moot.

I bought my boat at the end of 2020. This was my 5th trip today. I drove 2 hours out with the honda 2.3hp. On the way back, almost made it to the launch when i noticed water was coming in boat over the back corner edges. I first slowed down and water was coming in not as fast. When i stopped the boat the water on floor moved forward and fried the electric peddles. Probably about 4” of water. I immediately unplugged them and my wife held them with both hands. With no other choice I started motor and was able to idle back without additional water coming in. So the motor was mounted correctly, didn’t slip or anything. The plug was in securely. The motor is set in first notch to keep front of boat close to water on plane. No holes in boat. I did notice water is still in hull after removing from water. How is this water supposed to come out? Any ideas of what i can look for for why water decided to start coming over back of boat?

@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Tony and Pam, that is the first such question that I ever received but I do have a suggestion. There are various pigments you can buy for coloring or tinting things from paints to fishing lures. Now that you have the old repair plugged I would try this. Make sure the original repair is not a big glob and sticking excessively high from the hull. I am not sure what you used to do the repair but whatever it is take a small blob of it on some cardboard, add some pigment or several colors to get the best color match you can, then spread that over the repair and let it fully harden. Hopefully it will stay attached to the hull and the original repair. I am not 100% sure it will work but what the heck do you have to lose? Let me know if it works! Gerry

Sorry for the late reply. Arrow, I did not reinstall the skeg that was on the TT. With the two counter rotating pro[ps Freedom Electric Marine says we do not need it. David tells me all new TT come with the reverse pitch prop and they no longer have the skeg on the bottom because it is not needed.
