Twin turbos makes sense on V8 engines. Single turbo makes sense on straight/inline-6 engines.

Yes and no. Many inline engines use sequential (smaller boosting larger). However, in an inline, you can have separate manifolds with an intake air collector and ITBs making a true "twin turbo" set up like the RB26 uses.

Why ? What does an inline engine or a V configuration engine have to do with it ? Then what about Compound Turbo systems ? What type of engine configuration do you think those are for ?

Theres getting the air in as efficient as possible. It sounds like you're confusing sequential turbos in an inline configuration. On a V, twin is best, or in the RB environment with a collector and ITB, with an identical turbo on each three banks, the power delivery is very linear.

I have a V8 LT1 caprice that's twins and I'm going to swap to single. Main reason is space and one other very good reason is it's going to cut back on engine bay temps at least I think it should. Taking away one compressor housing and one down pipe should lower temps. Also I will take away one oil drain and feed and simplify the intake pluming as well. One turbo is definitely more efficient and simple and probably gonna be a lot easier to work on.
