This song hits so much harder when you know the context behind it. It was a response to The Rolling Stones trashing him because they were mad 'The Search' album popped off more than Chance the Rapper. Here's a list of the call outs that I've noticed: [[Fair warning, it's longer than I realised.]] • Pay Your Dues is a Rolling Stones song, so he named in "Paid My Dues." • They said his burdens (the balloons) were a bad metaphor because they're light, so he benched them. • They said he has the 'audacity' to put 'pedal to the metal' and rap at fast speeds, so he rapped fast for this song. • They said he doesn't give himself a chance to breathe between syllables, so he added a breathy "Whoo whoo whoo." • They said he talks to himself and makes it seem like you're 'getting fitted for a straight jacket while listening to the album', so he talked to himself. • They said something about talking down on spouses (or something similar, it was worded weird), so he said, "Wife is looking ooh." • They said his album was just about being depressed and made people feel hopeless, so he added a line saying that "You really gotta dig in your heart if you wanna get to the root of an issue. Pursuin' the mental can be dark and be difficult, But the payoff at the end of it, can help you to get through it." • They said he looks too much like Eminem, so he showed a scene with his different styles (when they all pop out of the lockers)
