We have had the same problem with our isinglass- we believe it is UV damage. We tried Starbrite which was the best, but also Mcguires, Meths etc. None worked enough for us to restore clarity. We are replacing isinglass. We noted starbrite do a protectorant for UV damage prevention. We also plan to add canvas covers for the insinglass to prevent UV damage when not using the boat.

The stuff I use for treating the spray hood says it must not come onto the windows. I suspect that after treating the spray hood, when the next rain shower comes, some of the "stuff" gets rinsed onto the windows, dissolves the surface of the plastic somehow, and cuases this (especially what you saw along the edges). I do fear I have to change the plastic. I have not tried rubbing though. I want to change to something for treating the spray hood that want do any damage to the plastic. But what ?. ........ The stuff they sell (in my country, from Biltema) says it may harm the plastic, and I think it does, as can be seen on your video.

According to my videos it seems like I treated the sprayhood one year before the isingglass went bad. I think the acrylic glass has a lifetime of around 5-8 years if exposed to sunlight every day. Think the acrylic glass in my sprayhood was the original wich means it was +10 years old. In the future I'll just change all the acrylic when one window gets bad.

Likely aprox the same age here. And some of the threads are worn out by sunlight here (re-stitching needed). When I treated the spray hood, I accidently spilled a bit on the isingglass without wiping it away, and that's when I noticed a simmilar discolouring in the "glass". But possibly it could be both reasons I guess.

@@finnerutavdet Don't know what brand your sprayhood is but alot of Bavaria boats is equipped with the cheap "Schultz" canopies which are generally not made to last forever. As the sails the sprayhood has a lifetime and at some point it must be changed to a new one. My sprayhood was also re-stitched in 2017 and got new windows the last year I owned the boat.

Tino, I have the same issue on my own Isenglass. I have come to the conclusion that it is not actually a coat or stain of something but rather damage to a thin layer on the surface of the plastic. The discolouration at the edge makes me think that this may be the case. Is it possible that its a combination of water and uv damage? I'm by no means certain but just a thought. Tom

Hi Tino, I wonder whether it is possible to manage the clarity of the acrylic glass of hatches and port lights? They all are foggy. I intend to apply some paste to remove the outer layer and have the clear fresh layer inside. Your acrylics are so clear, how can you succeed it?

I have seen many port lights and hatches where the acrylic glass has crystallized, also why I'm very careful what I put on the glass. In the time I have owned the boat I have only washed the acrylic glass with boat shampoo and nothing else. If the acrylic is foggy it is possible to polish the glass with the "red" from autoglym. The autoglym product is a light polish for cars and is a very good polish for clear plastic. If the acrylic is crystallized you can wet sand it but I would recommend to change the acrylic if the rest of the boat is in a fine condition. One hatch glass is around 500 US Dollars.

@@twiper @Tino G - Sailing Thanks for your reply.👍 Unfortunately all the port lights and hatches have crystallized glass (not foggy). I will try wet sanding. Perhaps it works. Since all the glasses are crystallized, they are too expensive to change.

@@sedatdemir3340 Maybe change the top hatches to new ones from vetus and then try to wet sand the portlights. I know it works but the acrylic must be dismounted so you can sand it properly.
