Thanks for posting this! It creates a very neat, finished edge.

Hi, I haven't worked out how to do a 2x2 cast on that looks like the 1x1 and I tried the method you describe but it doesn't look the same as it doesn't twist in the same way. If you do the cast-on as shown and then knit 2x2 ribbing, it makes an interesting edge but it looks quite heavy and is not completely twisted.

I was trying to use this cast on for a hat brim in seed stitch. After knitting a few stitches on the first row, I could see it wasn't looking right. The cast on stitches were spreading outward and very loopy. I had an even number of stitches, but the row starts with k1, [k1, p1]. Having two knit stitches together caused the problem.

If instead of a tail around the thumb i want an invisible join so both sides are working yarn alternating colors.

I just love this cast on! Thanks. Is there a companion bind off?

Can you knit stockinette stitch with this cast on? I am about to knit a baggy beanie in stockinette stitch, and tried several stretchy cast ons, an they are either too tight or to ugly....

Have you created an alternate version of the twisted cable cast on to use for a 2 x 2 rib? Thanks for posting your knitting cast on's!! Love them! I would assume that you would take two stitches from the thumb and then two stitches from the index finger. Any thoughts?

Would this work in the round? Would you still end with a stitch coming off the thumb, and still begin with a knit st? I may have to give it a go. This is beautiful.

Hi this does work in the round, just cast on as shown, transfer the stitches to DPNs or cast on to a cable needle and keep the needle tips close as you knit the first row to stop it stretching out between stitches. You can join in the round straightaway and still start as normal with a knit stitch.
