Really cool! I tried learning this from a book and missed “swing the RH needle under and around the back before transferring the loop.’ Thanks for a great video! What is the cast off on the opposite side called?

If the first stitch has to be Knit, how do you use this cast on when knitting in the round 1x1 ribbing?

Thanks for the excellent cast on. Would this work as a stretchy edge for garter stitch as well?

Is there any reason to *not* use this on a garment? I’m trying it on a wrap for my daughter because she likes to hug herself into a wrap, and I want the edges to accommodate that without stressing the edge. I use this cast on exclusively for socks and ❤ it!

@@DianeGemmaI think it will be fine. I’ve used it on the bottom edge of a sweater that I wanted to be stretchy

I am working a pattern for calf high socks. It states to use your link for the cast on. You state to knit that first stitch but the pattern says to p1, k1. Do I need to just knit the first stich for that first round and cont with the pattern on 2nd rnd? This is a great cast on but not sure how to start my p1, k1 ribbing. Thanks for a great new cast on and for any help. ❤😊

I'm a bit late to the party, having picked up knitting again after a 40 year gap! So I'm very pleased to find this method, as I'm about to start making a pair of top down socks using aran weight cotton and 25cm circular needles. The cuff will be on 4.5mm needles and the body in 5mm needles. Should I cast on one size down, namely 4mm, or use the 4.5mm ones? I'll be casting on using regular straight needles then transferring to the mini-circular. Thanks for the video, which is very clear, and having the ability to slow it down is really helpful.

I just love this stretchy 2x2 rib cast on. It took me a few times to master it but it helped when I held the right needle like a pencil instead of my usual way, like a knife! And it looks so nice. I also found that holding the needle tips close together on the first row after the cast on eliminated any unevenness or spaces between stitches. Thank you for the video.

Can you knit stockinette stitch with this cast on? I am about to knit a baggy beanie in stockinette stitch, and tried several stretchy cast ons, an they are either too tight or to ugly....

I was trying to use this cast on for a hat brim in seed stitch. After knitting a few stitches on the first row, I could see it wasn't looking right. The cast on stitches were spreading outward and very loopy. I had an even number of stitches, but the row starts with k1, [k1, p1]. Having two knit stitches together caused the problem.

I'm in favor of any cast-on that doesn't require measuring out a tail in advance! This is isn't complicated, and it works especially well with roving-style yarn (which splits too easily when you're trying an alternating cable cast-on with it).

I found your video through the Palmistry mitts by Stephanie Lotven and I have to say I LOVE this method! The cast-on is so beautiful for ribbing and is so easy to do! Thank you so much for the great video and method!

This looks similar to the Chinese Waitress Cast On. I was wondering as I was performing this the other day if I could shorten it up some and sure enough here is the confirmation.

Thank you Tilly buddy for showing this very neat cast-on. I've been hesitating(OK, procrastinating) getting started on a men's vest because it calls for a cable cast-on for 2x2 rib and I really didn't think it looked all that nice. Yours is almost invisible without distorting the stitches. Perfect! I used slippery needles so it was difficult to keep the yarn on the needle to pull it through! Lol! But I eventually figured out to just hold it in my hand like knitting a regular knit stitch.
