Twisted Colossus is a steel roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Originally designed and built by International Amusement Devices, the roller coaster opened as Colossus on June 29, 1978. It was the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world and the first with two drops greater than 100 feet (30 m). Colossus became well known after appearances in film and television, including the box-office hit National Lampoon's Vacation. After more than 36 years in operation, The roller coaster closed permanently on August 16, 2014, On September 8, 2014, while workers were disassembling the track, a fire broke out and consumed a portion of it, causing a portion of the structure to collapse.
Within two weeks of its closure, Six Flags announced that the coaster would reemerge in 2015 as a hybrid wood and steel roller coaster named Twisted Colossus. It is being renovated by Rocky Mountain Construction to feature barrel roll inversions, a near-vertical drop, and dueling tracks that allow riders on different trains to race from start to finish.

There is a 2nd ride at the park, that didn't exist at the time of your post, called West Coast Racers, that does this, BUT there is little show where the train takes a pitstop while the next train loads. Once the next train is ready, both trains launch together for a Race Every Time.

I am finally getting my roller coaster mojo back. In my youth nothing scared me and if it did, it sure didn’t stop me. But after so many years they changed and I changed along with them and became afraid of them. I never thought that would happen but it did. I still appreciated them but from afar. It was fun living vicariously through other people. But recently I returned to Magic Mountain and slowly but surely started riding these twisted beasts again. I admit I chickened out a couple of times.. something I never did before. I waited in line for Twisted Colossus and when it came time to board.. I couldn’t do it! I just exited. I hated myself. Same with Tatsu. Although I forced myself to ride Wonder Woman and Batman which I had ridden o. Before but it had been 15 years! These were good warm ups! I finally rode Tatsu and as freaked out as I was I felt badass afterwards! I felt like if I could ride that flying beast then all the others would be a piece of cake.

Because the drops are only 128 feet. They're not that long. That's one reason I love Millennium Force at CP so much...300 feet at 80 degrees is perfect...long enough to enjoy it.

+Thealpha Banana Good advice hahah. Viper is more of a pain tolerance session than a thrill ride. >_< It desperately needs better cushioned shoulder harnesses, for one thing. You spend half the ride smashing & grinding your collarbone against them, and they're only slightly softer than bone. Looks like most people already know too (return visitors at least), as it always has by far the shortest line, if any, when I'm there. Even significantly shorter than the nearby Revolution, which is much older.

Steep drops (80 degrees), great elements (high five/top gun stall/zero g roll/double ups/out banked turn), LOTS of AMAZING airtime (ejector, floater, AND pops), really long (5,000 feet), and the overall interaction between trains on the high five and BOTH inversions when it's perfectly dueling is BEYOND AMAZING so this coaster definitely has A LOT of the qualities that make a coaster GREAT

Definitely worth the wait. I loved what they did with it . I was surprised that the line was pretty short . the line for Tatsu and Full throttle were waaaaay longer. the line for twisted colossus was an hour but it genuinely felt like 5 minutes . remember to put your hands up you won't regret and watch out for the first drop...it was amazing

Kind of depressing when you're single and have no one to go to Six Flags with or any theme park for that matter. Can't go with your friends because they all are either in committed relationships and always have other plans, are dirt cheap, or chicken shit to go on these kinds of rides. Its been several years since I've been to Six Flags and too ashamed to go alone.

There will never EVER be anything wrong with going to a theme park alone. Back in Feb., I went to Magic Mountain all by myself two days in a row and I felt great. Dude I went to Six Flags Georgia by myself last Thursday. It was great. Whoever plops down in the seat next to you becomes your thrill buddy for that ride. Met a British guy on holiday and a 60 year old man who spent his lunch breaks there riding roller coasters. XD. And because I went on a Tuesday and didn't have anyone with me to chickenshit out, I never waited more than 10 minutes for a ride all day :D.

Awareprod they're meant to duel, however it all depends on timing and how long people take at the station. some people take their sweet time to get on and delays it entirely

Joses Galdamez Yes I know they should and I know there's always differences between the loadings BUT for the first operating weeks, for the buzz, for a good advertisement, they should make that happen. Make the first train wait a few seconds before second lift hill, change the two lift speed etc

waste their time actually telling the machine to do different things to please this? i mean the logic is there but the execution will be a disaster. the people at the station won't even be able to see the lift hills every waking moment to determine how fast the train should go in order for the other to catch up. please.

Awareprod The lift speeds are variable (green usually goes slower than blue to allow time to cach up), but the park has decided that it's more important to keep the capacity of the ride up than to make every train wait on the green lift to race the blue side. It sucks that it wasn't designed a little differently to allow more loading time.

I took my partner on this the other day as his first ride at Magic Mountain ever. I thought it would be a good warm-up ride for him at first glance (I had never ridden it). I was SOOOO wrong. We sat in the back. He didn't talk to me for the rest of the day after that lolol. I honestly think this is the most HORRIFYING rollercoaster at Magic Mountain.
