Sound demo (no talking) of the Twisted Electrons - MEGAfm synthesizer, a unique FM synthesizer build around the grittyl YM2612 FM chip and has loads of knobs for hands-on control over the parameters.

We agree! Effects can be nice, but we feel that at least a part of the demo should show the raw sound.

I am so glad that theres a video not afraid to do wacky sounds. a lot of synth videos I see are just smooth pads and I'm like "yeah I know it could do that, if it couldn't I'd be worried"

Is that old Yamaha chip the same FM chip found in the "Sega Genesis"? Is that why you have the "mega" font look like the "Sega" font?

I love Twisted Electrons and this looks cool af, but I think that I would be completely lost with FM, and unable to get it to sound any good.

The reason people thing FM think FM is hard has less to do with any actual difficulty of wrapping one's head around it as a method of synthesis, and everything to do with crappy interface design on early FM synths. It's really not that much more difficult than subtractive synthesis, once you have an idea of how the ratios and order of operators affect each other.

Start small. Use algorithm 5 and 8, set operators 3 and 4 to null . Use simple ratios first 1:1,2:1,1:2. Experiment with that to see what happens. If you don’t throw every operator ,carrier, algorithm and ratio at the synth at once, the FM will grow with you. Generally speaking horizontal lines at the bottom make a mellow sound, all above the bottom line makes the sound harder, more distorted, so turn it down and slowly add more to it to make things spicier.
