hello Graham, gave it a go this morning and by the third one I had got ot it , one thing I noticed is drill rpm can vary so set mine to screw setting at full trigger for that and worked out the time aftera couple of goes................brilliant. mike

Great to hear Mike. I compensate for that possible unevenness in the the number of twists by "flossing" the line after the second leg has been twisted. You'll see me moving my hands back and forth at about 2:13 in the video. That's what that's about.

Ok thanks Graeme I will do that next time when my 3lb line arrives , also going to see if I can turn back and twist in the small single line loop to make it same as the other end

Thanks for taking the time to upload this. It is one of the easiest ones to follow I have seen. Subscribed!

Brilliant, sooooo much easier with a drill than doing this by hand twisting. Thanks!

I've made these by the hand/finger twisting method, but this looks much easier. Furled leaders are used in all types of fly fishing. Those made of thread are often treated with floatant for dry fly fishing. I like to add a micro swivel to mine when casting small dries with wings, which prevents or minimizes twisting the tippet. I love the way heavy furled leaders, made with 20-40 lb test mono for floro turn over big flies. I often add a 4 mm tippet ring to tie my tippet to. Thanks

hi Graeme, just found this and very useful , tried hand twisting but gave up when thumbs almost fell off lol . If I am correct it looks as if you're just putting twist in each single leg of mono first so I will make an indoor set up as freezing outside and give it a go to occupy me in lockdown , cheers mike

Yep, twisting each limb under tension, then releasing the tension in a controlled manner and letting the thing twist in on itself.

hi Graeme, getting on ok but wondered what lb strain mono you would recommend for 4ft trout fishing leader as I tried my 3lb and it seemed to lack body. cheers mike

A 4' leader seems very short to me. I don't know how I'd achieve that. When I'm making these leaders for a 6wt outfit, I use a 12lb or 10lb nylon monofilament (line diameters are the factors to take into account). Maybe even try an 8lb monofilament line if the 10 is still too thick for your needs. Cheers, Graeme

I just used this technique to make a leader for my 8 foot Tenkara Rod, Using 50# Spider Wire. Thanks for the video

Simple presentation, great work! What do you think about using one of those tippet rings at the first loop?
@Kalgrm4 жыл бұрын
G'day Idahomountainelk, I suppose that would be possible but I am very happy with a loop-to-loop connection there. I suspect a tippet ring would cause abrasion as the leader is used. If you give it a try, please let us know how it works out for you. I'd be interested in the results.
