Twisted Metal 2 Playstation & PC Stage Differences

PSX: Slightly higher resolution textures, better transparency effects most of the time, 320x240 resolution, pop up more noticeable, no saving or loading, local two player splitscreen multiplayer. Win95: Slightly lower resolution textures, less total textures, some minor details removed from stages or toned down (cracks in drop zone's ice and field of screams windmill animations in particular), varying transparency depending on graphics card, water removed from a lot of places, drastically improved filtering, pop up less noticeable, various effects added or improved (most of the time), supports resolutions higher than 320x240, save/load options, more control options, more sound options, more camera options, split screen and network multiplayer

Not as detailed, maybe.......but framerate is better and polygon count is WAY higher.

@@whoohaaXLwhat are you saying? You are going to tell me that v2 is modyfing meshes? The 3d models are the same and have same number of polygons! You can set higher resolution but Pc version has missing effects (voodoo so powerful and not handling semitransparency ? ;) and objects /arena sections. Some textures are changed. Graphic is glitching where semitransparency was used in original version. I have been comparing both version today and I know what I am writing. I even have exported models and textures by TM Toolkit and tried to remaster warthog and Amazonia level. PlayStation version has low resolution but is much better version- just like ps2 GTA:Vice City comparing to PC version (it was faster, sharper but castreted)

@@psdmaniac fair enough, I'll give you that you've done more research than I have so I really can't compare with your results it's been years since I played the PC version but only a week since I played the PlayStation version. Maybe it was the rose tinted nostalgia glasses that clouded my judgment, LOL.

No, it plays the new york theme

Not sure about PC, but on PSX it plays the New York theme for Rooftops and the LA Theme for Cyburbia. The Jet Moto swamp music and Holland use the same music, even in the original Jet Moto that same song is used. Fun Fact: Jet Moto and TM2 were released on the same day in North America and both developed by SingleTrac.

Yeah the stages did miss a few details but overall the higher res on the PC version really did a better job with everything else. I love this game, even the music and the sounds of spectre and shadows specials bring back fun memories...I remember playing it again a few years back and the blue blip on my over head map of Outlaw was represented by a single blue line in the horizon lol.... still fun though.

Look at the Mr Slam in Amazonia. PC wersion doesnt have shadows on the cars.

Color, a couple of visuals missing from the PC compare to PS1, like the health icon and teleporter's aura effect. Plus PS1 has better colors (Hong Kong stage for example) whereas PC with its voodoo 3dfx makes it look bland in comparison. A fitting comparison of a game between PC and PS1 would be NFS 3: Hot Pursuit, which PS1 is superior than PC in terms of fun and aggressive A.I.

PS1 have lighting graphic, you can clearly tell this in the Warthog level and whenever they teleport, the PC version doesn't have the purple haze effects. This pretty much concludes that PS1 is superior.

Huh... It looked better than that to me. Probably I had a patched version or something but the textures and effects looked better for me running on a 3dfx Voodoo card.

Gameplay is much different for me. Original version is better. PC version has only higher resolution. Colors are incorrect, lack of semi transparency. On Pc stages don't have some elements and diffrent textures are used for some object.

If you shot all the pictures it revealed a secret to unlock either new cars or new levels or both. Cyburbian reworked for TM2 was the best level in the game

It does and it doesn't. You can't install it, but you can run it directly from the CD or even copy the CD's contents to whereever you want them. Saving is impossible with that method however and on modern systems the menus will overaccelerate, making the cars spin around freakishly fast in the character selection and making it hard to look at driver bios. Funny enough, a frame rate limiter built into the game kicks in when your actually playing or watching videos. It was also a pain for me to get gamepads to work with it, so I just took XPadder to it and mapped the keyboard controls to my gamepad that way. Trying to change the resolution from 640x480 also crashes it, so no setting it to 800x600 sadly. Eventually I plan to see if I can install it under WINE on my Linux partition and see if it does a better job of emulating Windows 95 and properly handling the game.

No but on the other hand, if you put a CD that has music in it, it'll play the music from the CD. I accidentally tried it with Tekken 3.

+Robsonski96 the PC version HAVE the music, if you put TM2 CD into the disk drive (virtual or not). Music is the same as at PS version

Music and video files for the PC version are identical to those found in the PSX version (double edged sword since the videos are in 320x240... default PC res is 640x480), in fact there's more sound options for PC users to play with than in the original PSX version.

A fumaça e o fogo no PS1 parecem mais naturais. O "life" no estágio fica mais bonito com essa transparência também. O efeito do teleport e suas cores. Os cenários explodindo e quebrando. As cores também são mais naturais, enquanto algumas do PC são meio "lavadas". Só resolução e fps que o PC ganha mesmo.
