Wow! Just looking at the quilt on the wall it looks really difficult to me. Watching you make that block. Easy peasy! I can do that! 😊 I look forward to trying this pattern. Thank you for being so clear in your instructions about the fabrics and the direction in which to sew! It really does help me out a lot. I realize this is an old tutorial but, I had never seen it before. I'm glad YT suggested it.🤩🌻

Good Job! Sometime I choose to press seams open too. It does help reduce the bulk at the intersections. Pattern is definitely on my to do list. I just got a new layer cake that I think will look really good. Thanks for sharing!

It is better to cut them through the middle in each direction first (+), then cut them on the (X).(after sewing on each side of the X)
@lindadaley74695 жыл бұрын
I agree Joseph. Much easier and faster. Also, iron the half square triangles open before you square them up. This assures that there is no folds or puckers at the seams.
@patriot89385 жыл бұрын
I square my HST before ironing. For me it gives a better square. I use my trimmer tool and use the loc blocs too. After I trim, then I iron open.
@kennethstensrud6695 жыл бұрын
I do it the other way around first the x and then the +, but the result is the same anyway. And I feel that a triangular block lock too would be better for squaring up.....
@GrampiesCorner5 жыл бұрын
@@kennethstensrud669 if you do the plus first there is less chance of the heat separating because the X is s holding them together. 11the cuts are more accurate and less chance of different size sqrs
@julies56755 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, Joseph. Keeps the cuts stable.

Lovely. Why do you press your seams open?
@ceecee87574 жыл бұрын
It lays flatter when you start piecing.

is there a reason why you pressed all your seems open or does it make a difference
@marywhalen3645 жыл бұрын
Jim Morgan it reduces bulk. A quilt teacher told me recently that seams were pressed to 1 side because the batting would leak through seams. Now the batting is much improved, so it doesn’t matter.
@sandyrichmond25705 жыл бұрын
There are many different thoughts on to press open or not. I think if you’re going to press the seams open ,decrease the stitch length to 1.8 to 2.0 the reason is the seam isn’t as stable. The stitches could come apart at the seams with use. I rarely press the seams open. In my opinion and everyone has one, is the seams are stronger by pressing to one side with no stress on the stitches. It’s your quilt so you should do what is easiest and best for you. Happy quilting!
@GrampiesCorner5 жыл бұрын
It depends on the project. Some projects it is better to iron to the side to alternate seams when the pieces are joined to reduce bulk.
