Hugo and Alex used to have a REAL big one-to-one thing going on in SF3 (starting in Second Impact, that is, where Hugo debuted), which was really interesting. Hugo has his Claps (plus on hit-and-block poke), Shootdown (anti-air grab), Lariat (advancing tool), and obviously Moonsault (command grab). Alex has his Flash Chops, Knee, Elbow, and Power Bomb. All of which do the same thing in SF3 (but were retooled in SFV). You could even say Alex DDT was sorta like Meat Squasher, they're both command grabs that have a dash forward (it's just that Alex is a jump, Hugo is a run). They also both had St.HP attacks that were slow overheads, their Cr.MP are basically the same attack, their Cr.HP was a flop/shoulder bash (with Hugo falling over during his), their F.HP is a big ol' swing of the arm, and their Universal Overheads were extremely similar knee strikes. And all that makes sense; they're meant to be Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant, wrestling rivals. Anyway, I kinda hope they make Chops kinda similar to what they once were. At the very least, allow Heavy Chop to do more; make it like +4 or +5, enough to link out of into a short combo if you don't want to sideswap, or you can do a Backdrop if you *do* wanna sideswap. Light is kept as-is, just a quick combo ender, and Medium can be for mixups or damage when Heavy won't work.

on one hand do I want a redone sean to be done justice yes but I honestly don't want him until season 3 because I just feel like we have way to many shotos in the game right now, we got 4 with ken, ryu, akuma and luke (some would even argue juri is a shoto in this game which I can kinda see but dont necessarily agree with) and we should probably get some more diversity with character archetypes before we get ANOTHER shoto

I stopped playing SFV during Season 4 so I'm not very well-acquainted with the most recent iteration of Alex, but from what I can tell Final Patch Alex is a perfect base to form his potential SF6 version on. He relies a lot less on gimmicks than 3S Alex as most of his tools actually work as intended, not to mention that he has a lot more of them, so there isn't much that needs to be improved upon. Being able to steer his headbutt and his stomp would honestly be a great tool for him to have because if the opponent tries to parry and he under or overshoots his target, he makes them waste their drive and depending on frame data and positioning, he might even be able to get a mixup or a throw punish. My only request for a headbutt change is that the EX version *has* to deal multiple hits for the culture. I also agree with making DDT a regular special move like in 3S. Being able to cancel into it like in SFV would be nice as well though I think the best way to go about balancing it is to either treat it like a normal command grab or do it KOF style where if the opponent is in blockstun, it whiffs. I also think it'd be a hilarious callout to parry-happy opponents. In fact, I really like the idea of Alex having ways to psyche the opponent out of their resources with hard reads. Speaking of controlling the drive gauge, I think it'd be really interesting to see VS1 return exactly as is. Alex can force CCs in SFV and he's still only mid-tier so even if it is against the general design of SF6, I don't think it would be game breaking to let him punish counter without actually punishing anything. Even if it's not that major or interesting, I think it'd be neat to see another character interact with their drive gauge in a unique way like Luke's EX moves and Jamie's drinking and Alex seems like a good guinea pig for it. I think a perfect SA1 for him would be Boomerang Raid with a different ender. That grab is the main reason that move sucks and sadly it's his best super in 3S. I think Sledgehammer would be a really fun SA2 but given that parry is a universal option, SF6's lack of unblockable hits, and the presence of unblockable protection, I don't think it would function the same at all and generally be seen as a waste of meter unless they made it do something crazy, and I don't think they'd be interested in giving him a VS2 install. His SA3/CA will definitely kick ass and that's all that counts. Hoping for Alex in Season 3 🙏

Since most characters have only 1 plus ob normal, Alex's plus frame wil clearly be spaced st.HK and nothing else. But on a serious note, I hope he get's his b.HP from third strike as a command normal again, was a great awkwardn to parry button that you could link off of far hitting HP chops, mix up his combo game and neutral a bit with a sudden 20% stun hit

As an Alex main in 3S and V, he's one of my most anticipated characters. Despite his 3S low tier shenanigans I love how fun he is to play. Personally I believe the best way to balance him for this game is a few things: 1. Command throw does more damage across the board. It would make it more of a threat, and considering in 3S especially and to some extent in V people didn't respect it, it would be a good start. 2. V Skill 1 returns like you mentioned like Honda. Genuinely a goated tool for him, and would make sense in the context of his kits. In conjunction to this, he would need target combos that he can cancel into the buff, like Ryu's Denjin and Honda's spirit, it just makes sense. 3. All special moves return, including sleeper and the suplex but make the sleeper deal less damage and more drive gauge damage, and the suplex more damage focused. This way it's an option select for oki in the corner or damage but a side switch. Along with a few other things I don't wan't to muddle up the comment section with, this is the gist. I sit down and think about topics like this video a lot (how certain characters could be balanced for the new game), and it's fun to see other people talking about it too. Things I'd also like to see Alex have in sf6 - Alex's sf3 hp returns as an overhead. - Sf3 knee (mk) restored - Headbutt becomes a command grab. - An Ex headbutt that makes that makes the enemy crumple. - Somersault (chrg d, u+p) - like in sfv, Alex will leap towards the enemysimilar to Akuma's demon flip. But instead of headbutting, he will be left with certain options: - DDT (After somersault) LP+LK - Dropkick (After somersault) K - Shining wizard - an anti crouch grab (d,LP+LK) - give him an anti grab??? Flash Chop - like sf3, mp and hp flash chop forces enemy into back turned state. - Ex flash chop forces a wall hit. Bring back stomp cross ups!!! Overhaul (v skill 1) returns a d,d,p Boomerang Raid - Lvl 1 super Overchain (v skill 2) - is now a lvl 2 install super. Hyperbomb and backdrop bomb - lvl 3 super.

I really want his Super 1 to be his C.A from SF5 to make him do more than Hyper bomb the opponent to oblivion as "the final attack", Super 2 being something like a EX knee that he changes to his Flying Cross Chop would be really cool to see too. I'm pretty sure that he will have at least one stock power up like Ryu because being able to do one special into another in one combo is absolute amazing and i wish they did the same with Akuma, but i'm pretty sure he (right now) would break the game if he had something like that.

the biggest thing for me is making him feel like his 3S self. SFV definitive edition Alex is a strong character, but he just feels so much less interesting, is more conventional, standard combo focus. 6's systems would let his strong points from 3S reappear. stand HP back to being an uncancellable overhead, 4HP as a unique command move that outprioritizes many pokes, very specific juggle and combo tools depending on the situation (air hit dive combos, single hit 2HP juggles, slash elbow juggles into stungun etc). the last thing I want is for him to feel "well-rounded" instead of the really strong in some aspects and weaker in others character he should be

Alex powerbomb doesn't give a hard knockdown in 3s, so if they quickstand, the oki can be poor. The light version gives decent oki, but he actually has a kara throw on forward heavy punch, that goes way further than power bomb, and gives better oki, for only marginally less damage. It also carries a lot less risk, so most Alex players do normal throws most of the time.

It was great as a combo ender once we hit S3 of SF5, but it was near unusable as a raw anti air until S5. It is no longer bad and I hope that is the knee we get if he makes it in 6. Happy you enjoyed the video!

@@twistedrivera yeah I understand what you're saying, but at this point, after sf6 managed to make me enjoy messing around with all the characters, even somehow getting me to main ed to plat 2 when I thought I would be a guile purist until they add my weird wishlist of characters to the game, imo the devs have proven that they know how to make any character they choose fun to play. That was messy but it's 1:00 in Aus and I'm about to fall asleep so goodnuff I guess.

Fairly certain they’ll remove special cancels for Lariat if they’re gonna make it as good as SFV’s Busted as is (if your opponent isn’t crouching from afar), so giving the god button a special cancel off of a DR might be overkill

Bro why even mention 3s Alex if you're gonna drag him through the dirt so hard? Just compare to SF5 Alex if that's the one you know. EX stomp didn't need to be steerable - it tracks. EX command grabs don't exist in 3s, it's not just Alex inexplicably missing EX powerbomb. Yes his chop is very different and much worse compared to 5, but it was a move with much more niche use cases. It's no secret that he's lower on the tier list in 3s but if you take the time to learn his differences I love how unique he is. 3s Alex is my main in that game and one of my all time favorite characters. Alex in 5 was the only character I played in ranked but I gave up on the game as a whole because of how boring I found him to play.

I had to compare how his moves worked in 3rd strike and the major or slight improvements he went through SF5 to see what his move properties might end up with in SF6. He's fun to play in 3rd strike, but he also sucks majorly, which is ok. That's how some characters are in SF games lol
