For future viewers who like me questioned the placement of the trigger and blue wire, here is how mine worked with the D2’s. The trigger (white) wire needs to go to a power source which comes on when the bikes key is turned to the on position. Myself I have a Yamaha with a factory installed auxiliary connector - to which I’ve plugged in a Yamaha USB charging plug. It was to the wiring of the USB charging plug I connected the white wire. This meant I didn’t have to muck around with splicing into wiring that is part of the loom. Now the blue wire, what isn’t covered very well in this video is that you don’t get a blue wire with the light kit. Rather you get the blue wire with the data dim module upgrade. With the base light kit (wiring loom, two lights, the switch, and the white wire) your lights will be either off or at 100% brightness. If you upgrade to the data dim module, you can run you lights at 40% brightness (I believe it’s 40%) when you turn your bike on, or 100% when you switch your high beams on. The blue wire is connected to the wiring on your high beam bulb, so when you turn on high beam using your factory switch, the blue wire detects this current and your Denali lights switch to 100% brightness.

can you take the switch out of the equation and wire the WHITE wire to the high beam switch to trigger the relay and fire the lights?
@thetwowheeledintrovert3367
@thetwowheeledintrovert3367 2 жыл бұрын
@@Hypocrisy71 for me I ended up taking the lights off. The electronics on my bike (Yamaha R1M) are such that they don’t allow me to connect additional devices that draw current. So I had to run the lights from the aux, and have a seperate switch. So no, in my situation - depends on the bike if it is newer or older, I had to have a seperate switch.

@@thetwowheeledintrovert3367 I'm looking at the S4's for my s1000r, but after talking to Denali, using the white wire as my trigger connected to the high beam MAY NOT WORK as it might not be a full 12v and that is what they said need as a trigger. So I'll pull out the multimeter and check. I really don't want some weird button hanging off my mirror on a naked. :) Thanks for the reply!

Good day, Finally i was able to install a set of D2's, but weird enough the electric part was a piece of cake. feeding the wiring that took considerable time. No joke with the new bikes. Very hard to feed the cables, i actually had to loosen the gas tank, even worse was the battery compartment. I'm lucky enough that compartment under the seat has plenty space for all the wiring. I'm still adjusting the harness, hopefully this week I will give them a proper test. Be careful don't loose the tiny screws for the light switch. not easy to find replacements.

You connect the trigger wire to a circuit on the bike that is only powered when the bike is on. The classic point is the brake light because it is often easy to get too.

@@crismam1531 The trigger wire only needs to draw a small amount of current. The best way to do that is to use a POSI-TAP connector. There are many options available on Amazon. A crimp splice or solder splice would also work, but the POSI-TAP is the best way to go as it does the least amount of damage to the harness and it easy to do.

I have the Denali 2.0 DM lights arriving tomorrow for my KTM1190. I have GPS connected to the available Acc2 switched power behind my headlight. Only thing mentioned briefly was that the lights turned off when ignition is off. Clarify...you must be connected to switched power source and not battery correct? If so, is the draw too much to connect along with GPS behind headlight? I'd like to only have lights on when ignition is on. Might explain that a little better or slower....or it could just be me. Thanks! Great Video!!

Just installed the DM lights with this harness on my 2022 V-Strom 650. Everything pretty easy until I got to the "trigger" wire. Wasn't clear where to connect this one. Finally just took a guess and connected it to a red wire that was part of a three plug harness under the left side plastic tank cover. Turned on the key, and the lights worked when I hit the switch..... thought I was done.... However I discovered that switch turns on the lights even when the key is off! What is going on here?

So it's not possible to decide manually (switch) if they come on with the motorbikes lights or not? I'm just thinking that for my typical commuting I don't need them but for weekends I would want them to be linked to my bikes lights... But it seems you either control with the manual switch (3 way for 50/100% power) or they are linked to bikes lights?
@twistedthrottle
@twistedthrottle 4 жыл бұрын
Your assessment sounds correct. The three-way switch allows for Off/Low/High. Without using the 3-way switch, the DataDim Control Module allows for 50/100%. So, the option is to have them come on and control the intensity manually, or have them on automatically and running at 50% with headlight and 100% highbeam. Most riders who buy our lights actually like to run them during their commutes, simply to make oncoming drivers better able to see them.

I have repeatedly asked Denali about this, they even have a Tenere 700 Project bike with the lights on it, but as you see, they don’t answer our questions. I have also asked questions on their website, never get a reply! 😔 Also, in this video, they say every 2.0 light kit comes with the wiring harness, which allows switch choice, yet my S4 2.0 kit doesn’t have this harness. It comes with a very basic switch, which can’t be change, as it’s hard wired into the loom! So don’t by Denali, as they appear to give no customer service and have dumbed down the wiring harness, since this video was released. 😡
@twistedthrottle
@twistedthrottle 4 жыл бұрын
For bikes with a CanBus system that do not produce a solid 12v signal all the time, the S4s need to be configured in a different manner. The work around for this kind of bike is the 3-way switch (Hi-Low-Off which is currently out of stock, but more are coming!) along with the Data Dim Controller. However, you also need to upgrade to the Premium Wire Harness kit to use this switch on the S4s--this is the one set of lights not immediately compatible with the 3-way Switch/DataDim Controller.
@twistedthrottle
@twistedthrottle 4 жыл бұрын
You are correct--the switch on the S4s comes wired directly to the harness. This light kit was developed after this video was made, and changes were made to this kit as it is a completely different line of lights, so it works a little differently. On bikes with LED lights that do not have a solid 12v signal available to the high beam, you need to manually control the Hi/Low/Off function by using our 3-way switch, the Premium Motorsports Wiring Harness, and of course the DataDim Controller. This will give you control of On at 50%, On at 100%, or completely Off.

After you turn on the bike the box will activate anything plugged up to it after about 5 seconds. If I use the Thunder Box which is instead hooked to the battery do I still have to use the white trigger wire? I think the thunder box is doing the same thing.

Hey Paul, The only difference when using the Power Hub is where the positive and negative terminals on the lights wiring harness are attached. If using the Power Hub, you can attach them to that device. Now, the Denali lights are already set up with a pretty sophisticated wiring harness that has inline fuses and relays. You can go right to the battery with this kit and have no worries. This leaves you with open spaces on the power hub for additional accessories. Of course, the decision is always up to you!

Easy enough to make your own wiring harness, but have to know what wires on the Denali devices do what. I've managed to obtain what the 3 wires to the actual spots are, but the DataDim module has 6 wires. I completely understand what is required for all this, but Denali won't say what those 6 wires are to the DD module. I shouldn't have to guess and potentially damage something. I bought their product and it'll be easy to wire up, but in order to do so, I HAVE to know what the connections are. They should stop being so secretive and actually be helpful to their customers who need actual information about the product. Being so secretive is simply stupid and dumb and does not encourage customers to buy more Denali products. Quite the opposite in fact.
