@@brianbenoit6883 when it comes to impact on winning in the franchises history, kurri is right behind gretzky. He has to be 2nd, and to not include him even in the top 4 is crazy. Mcdavid in top 4 instead of kurri? i get he is individually a better player on paper than kurri (regular season) but Kurri was the top goal scorer on 4 of 5 cup runs with the oilers aswell, his impact is FAR beyond mcdavid and will be unless mcdavid wins a couple of stanleys for edmonton.

I know Gretzky brought so much to not only LA, but hockey culture in the south. It’s arguable that the Sharks, Ducks, Coyotes, and Knights might not even exist if Gretzky didn’t explode the hockey market down here. That being said, I probably would swap him out for Luc. Gretzky was only on around for about 7 years, Luc has dedicated most of his playing career to the Kings. He was the light during some very dark periods, and as you mentioned, is still the current president of the team. So much dedication to the Kings from a legend of the game that he has to have that spot.

It gets a bit problematic when counting players from moved franchises that have absolutely no connection to the current city. Hawerchuk has nothing to do with the Yotes, he’s a Winnipeg Jets icon - nothing else. Kovalchuk has nothing to do with the current Jets. Same goes for Hartford and Quebec. I mean, no one refers to Kansas City Scouts players when thinking of the Devils.

(1/2) I thoroughly commend your effort putting this list and video together. It can't be easy whittling down historic franchises to just 4 names (or 5, in Vancouver's case). I decided I would endeavor to create a similar list, but including some eras for older/moved franchises and incorporating the histories of all teams that could have been eligible to compete for the Stanley Cup in the post-challenge era-the NHA (1909-17), which became the NHL in 1917 upon the ousting of Eddie Livingstone; the PCHA (1911-24) and WCHL/WHL (1921-26), which merged with each other in 1924 and whose victor would play against the NHA/NHL champion in the early 20th century; and the WHA (1972-79), which merged with the NHL in 1979 and employed big-name players such as Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, and Wayne Gretzky. I combined several short-lived defunct franchises into groups, but a few I felt lasted long enough to be separated out. I also limited myself to sets of 4 players that could be part of the same starting 6 if they were to all magically be transported into the same time period, so any second goalie, third defenseman, or fourth forward is replaced by a slightly lesser player from a different position group. (Some players who played both forward and defense, or were rovers in the early days when seven-person lineups were a thing, are given a benefit-of-the-doubt inclusion, so if you think "those are all forwards," you may be right but I'm considering one as a defenseman.) I did this process mostly mathematically/formulaically, trying to identify those players whose tenure with their franchise and era incorporated the best combination of longevity and value, as measured using a highly convoluted variation on the point shares metric used by hockey-reference.com. Awards and championships are not considered, but playoff games are incorporated into a player's tenure. All statistics are current as of the end of the 2023 postseason. I didn't include honorable mentions because I wouldn't have known when to stop. Appreciate the snub shout out to Doug Harvey, he is much overlooked in todays hockey world. Most don't realize he was the first successful offensive defensemen in the league. Howie Morenz & Aurèle Joliet deserve a snub shout out as well. Choosing just 4 from any of the O6 teams would have been nearly impossible, great job with your choices! How about a Mt. Kind of like what you're saying about refs, I think it'd be interesting to learn a little more about the non-players who have made great contributions to the league and the sport - like the "builders" of the hockey hall of fame.

Great video. I think as a wings fan, for me id have honorable mentioned either fedorov or red kelly before pav, but you cant go wrong with datsyuk at all. And for me, my most iconic wings moment, was when yzerman handed the cup to Vladdie in his wheelchair the year after his accident. And in that moment, I also want to give a huge shout-out to caps fans who treated vladdie and that moment as if he were one of their own, and because of that, I'll always have great respet for the caps nation.

I'm a Leafs fan, but Yzerman has ALWAYS been a favourite of mine - and yes, that hand-off by him to Vladdie was pure class! Similarly when Sakic did it to Borque! I honestly get choked up thinking of both of those cause it's pure sportsmanship on display!

I like to give a shout out to Kent Nilsson. One of the most underrated superstars in NHL and Swedish Hockey history. The guy has the best PPG in Calgary Franchise history (1.32 PPG and 0.54 GPG) 3 of his 6 Seasons at Calgary are in the top 20 best in franchise history (tied first with Fleury who has 3/11 seasons for the franchise) Most points in a single regular season in franchise history (49-82-131) Sure he didn't play as long as other players, but it is crazy that he is 7th in Calgary points league but is 31st in games played league.

As for iconic Flyers moments, there are a ton. Dornhoefer’s goal against the North Stars. Clarke’s OT winner in Boston Garden. The first Cup at the Spectrum. JJ Daigneault forcing game 7 against the Oilers. Primeau in the 5th overtime. Coming back after being down 0-3 in game 7 against Boston to complete the reverse sweep. But for #1, I’d have to go with the Red Army team walking off the ice after Van Impe drilled Kharlamov in the 1976 Soviet tour.

For the Lightning it's pretty insane how many active franchise history making players they have right now. Vassi, Stamkos, Hedman, Kucherov, Point, & Sergy have been current ongoing. Really hoping they can secure another, it's been something watching them this season go from one game looking like they can't be touched to the next game where they look like the lines had been completely rewritten.

As a Flyers fan, i have a different Mt Rushmore. Bobby Clarke - The greatest Flyer ever as he won 2 Cups and 3 Hart Trophies. He also took the Flyers to 3 Stanley Cup Finals as GM so I’m not sure how you could say he wasn’t a good GM? Bernie Parent- How could you have Hextall over Bernie? Bernie is the reason they won both Cups as he won the Conn Smythe both years and Vezina both years too. Eric Lindros - If he wasn’t injury plagued, he would hold all the Flyers records. He was dominant in his prime but he just wasn’t the same after he started getting concussions in 1998. Mark Howe - Probably one of the most underrated Defenseman of the 1980’s. He was the Flyers best defenseman for a decade and pretty much led the team in +/- every year. He was a league leading +85 in 1985-86 and would log 30+ minutes a game. He was runner up for the Norris Trophy multiple times because there were so many HOF defenseman from that era like Bourque, Coffey, Stevens, Robinson and Langway. Honorable mention: Claude Giroux, Bill Barber, Brian Propp, Tim Kerr, John Leclair and Pelle Lindbergh.

As a Caps fan since their inception the greatest moment is obviously the 2018 Cup run. Proudest of the way that team set the bar so high for celebrating the achievement!!

As for my Canes you can also make a case for Glen Wesley . I think this Mount can change if the Canes get that cup with Guys like Aho and Slavin. Many fans would like to see Fancis replaced as many fans believe he has been the one blocking RBA from the HHOF. He has fallen out of favor with Canes fans. But he was Ronnie Franchise! A Lot of fans would also love to see Mr. Game Seven Justin Williams on that list. Most Iconic was game 7 2006 Stanley Cup win!

I think don't think either Brind'Amour or Francis will be replaced, but the other two spots could change depending on what happens in the next several years.

In the last thirty years, the two greatest Montreal Canadiens moments were when Saku came back, and when Kovalev levelled Darcy Tucker after Tucker tried to take his head off with a high elbow. The finesse which Kovalev showed to get the puck back, control it, and get it back to Tucker for the tackle, was everything outside of what the Canadiens have become known for.

Regarding the Blackhawks, you got 3 out of 4 right. I love Jonathan Toews, but in his place I would substitute Dennis Savard.

There is no: Pavel Datsyuk in Detroit, Nikita Kucherov in Tampa, Evgeny Malkin in Pittsburg, Pavel Bure in Vancouver. This is all you have to know about this one.

i agree for the most part but you do mention a lot of goalies for teams and i was stunned that you mentioned Roberto Luongo for Panthers but not Canucks ahha. although he pretty much started and finished on the Panthers, he did way more for the Canucks. got them to the 2011 finals and was the first goalie to be captain since 1947. i would put Olli Jokinen instead of Luongo for the Panthers tbh

Oilers? What? No Jari Kurri? Gretzky himself said, when asked, who was your best team mate in oilers, the reporter didn’t even managed to finish his question, when Wayne said without thinking a second, Jari Kurri, Jari Kurri. Jari had a huge part in the 80’s success. If it’s not on this video, well at least we know he’s on Wayne’s rushmore. Also Montreal…. Saku Koivu. You missed him. A decade as a captain of the team and was the first European captain of the canadiens. You did not even mention him 😅 wow..

We can see a Finnish Bias here lmao. Koivu is not on the Habs top 25 list! Kurri left too early. He’s no Wayne. Not because a guy is from Finland he has to be on the list🤡

@@jogendron6320 ok i admit, i'm a little bit bias here, but still. Jari is an Oilers legend. He should be on the list. I know Esa Tikkanen is not on the list and for a reason, but Jari should be there.
