Who is singing on that soundtrack? I thought that was the era where they had the dude from extreme singing for them what was his name Gary Sharone or something? Or was DLR back in the group at that point? Or was it just instrumentals, I don’t know why I don’t remember that it was Van Halen that did that soundtrack edit: typos

It truly was a thrillride in the theaters. And it strangely helped exorcise my fears of tornados that had haunted me since my youth. I had never been in one but always had nightmares about them. Then the gungho excited attitude of the stormchasers truly helped me face my fears.

Being a real storm chaser for the National Weather Service in Texas, I can tell you that Universal impressed me with their simulation of that tornado in that building. Now in comparison to a real tornado it does not do justice to the shear size of a real one. It still is beyond me why Bill Paxton & Helen Hunt always hated each other so much as actors. Still don't quite understand that to this day.

Bill Paxton is definitely one that hit me hard, and this movie will always be a classic, I mean cows flying through the air… You don’t see that movies now, now it’s only a superhero that flies through the air, I miss the days when we just saw a cow flying through the air. This is a must watch movie every Tornado Awareness Week. While there certainly are some inaccuracies, it doesn't take you out of the movie nearly as much as flubbed scenes in military movies for example. The whole premise of the movie is based in fact, and a the majority of it is pretty solid. For the time it came out, the NSSL and teams led by Josh Wurman and others were doing this very type of work, and the damage is mostly true to reality as well. Sure, they could have done a bit better with listening to their technical advisors, but directors or cinematographers rarely do, even though a true to life shot would often be just as dramatic or even more so in movies like this. Overall, the feeling of this movie is spot on. Hearing the thunder in DTS in the beginning is a great start to setting the mood, as is the hot, sunny day, although earlier in the year would be more likely, and easier to film with the corn just coming up, this setting is definitely not out of the question. The cast was outstanding and totally believable if you're a storm spotter or chaser and have been around others, especially at the time. The characters you meet fit right in, because no matter how the "I do it for the science" or "I do it to serve the public" guys try to portray it, you've got to be a little off to go out and do it, because it is dangerous, exhilarating, and at times gets the adrenaline flowing, and just a couple of details going wrong, can mean going from safety to fighting for your life in a very short time. This movie does a pretty good job capturing that as well. It's a fun ride, with great characters, and really makes you feel like you're out there in the heat with them. A great movie to celebrate the return of spring, and enough action to really make it fun, with enough breaks to not turn it into constant over the top stunts just for the sake of cramming them in.

This movie is my sister's favorite (and ONE of mine) and is the entire reason why she's an actual storm chaser now with Spotter Network and SkyWarn. She's just a photographer rather than a scientist. We're both weather buffs, but she literally reads meteorology textbooks for fun.

I related to this movie in 1996 on so many levels for an odd reason. Growing up, I crewed with a couple of hot air balloon crews in the Midwest. I draws so many parallels with the storm chasing in Twister. We were off in rural areas, on walkie-talkies, trying to keep visual contact with our balloon, and pulling out paper maps trying to plot following our balloon in real time. There would be stops at local places for food, and we would typically end up finishing in a farmer’s field where our balloon landed. It was a ride.

As a real storm chaser in Texas for the National Weather Service, I can directly tell you all that this movie is actually pretty accurate besides a few small scenes. Science wise I'd give it a 7 out of 10. It is a bit cheesy, but still amazing. I grew up with Twister long ago. The movie was inspired by the NSSL themselves & based off the original VORTEX project. Now a sequel is coming this year after 27 long years & will be known as TWISTERS (July 19th, 2024.) The movie holds a special place with me as it did inspire me to become what I am today even though I was already very interested in weather from a very, & I mean very young age. I do have an original VHS & and original DVD disk to this day of Twister. They are both behind glass on display near my many photos of supercell storms hanging on my wall. Screw any nostalgia critic. They still haven't opened their eyes to how incredible this movie was for its time, & how amazing it still is 27 years later. Rest in Peace Bill Paxton "The Extreme" & Philip Seymour Hoffman "Dusty." Us storm chasers will not forget them.

I’m somewhat of a big movie buff, I wouldn’t say the hugest, but I see movies on almost a regular to semi regular basis in theaters opening weekend, and I have a handful of movies on both DVD and Blu-ray that I have liked throughout my child and adulthood, and twister is one of those natural disaster, action packed movies from the 90s that I’ve always had a lighting for, and I’ve watched it a handful of times over a handful of years growing up. And, of course, as the video states, the technology and special effects in that movie is nothing compared to what would be now, but for back, then, that movie pulled off a hell of a ride, when I comes to the action and suspense by way of natural disaster of tornado and the special effects used in it back then to bring that to life and there was hardly any moment like Mortal Kombat annihilation. Were you thought The computer graphics were cheesy and not amped up enough or not well, enough, I don’t know that there was any question by anyone how well or how good the graphics in this movie were, to bring the concept of the natural disaster of twisters and their destruction to life, in question at all, so even for back, then, all variables that were brought together to bring this movie too it’s fruition, in my opinion, even for back, then all of it still hold up.

I love "Twister" and "Speed". Jan de Bont career maybe over but the guy gaves us 2 great action 90s films. I don't think it was considered such a big hit back then; otherwise the studio would have pushed Helen and Bill to put aside the differences with a big fat check for a sequel a couple of years later. But also, Helen was an Oscar winner by '98 so maybe she refused no matter how much money was involved. The new main lead couple for the sequel has been announced. Don't remember who's the male lead but the female lead is the actress of "Where the crawdads sing", she's playing Helen's daughter.

Saw this in theaters. It was such a great time for film. I remember my godmother was the only person I knew with a home computer and printer. If we visited, I was always on it. After seeing this, I went to the website for the film. They had a novelty "Tornado Chaser" quiz to decide if YOU could chase with the team. I printed that shit out and put it on my wall 😂😂😂😂 it was there for at least a decade It sucks to know that many of the most amazing movies have behind the scenes horror stories for the cast and crew. However, it almost makes it all worth it in a suffering for ones art kind of way. Helen Hunt never had a bigger leading role and I wonder if her sitcoms ego had anything to do with her reaction to action start treatment No one wants a Twister film with horrible CG cheap shots. The use of CG in practical art works is a thing of the past unless it is intended Everyone in the film did perfectly. Direction and editing top tier. The writing reflects seasoned pros coming together and leaving their mark. Films don't get made this way anymore!!!
