What I learned from the first match is that you CANNOT meditate your way outta the bottom
@BenEddy5 жыл бұрын
Lots of comments on my match. So I’d like to offer my perspective for those interested. This was 175, competed at 135 a couple weeks earlier. I am wanting to try heavier weights and really any weight as I often have the most problems with small guys in the gym tbh. Big guys are just more dangerous. To the match, Andy had me in a bad position early, and he was cooking it. I had to just wait it out. His squeeze from that twister side north south was already putting on the blood when I tried to work out of it. Had to just wait it out. I got a chance to reverse it, but he thoughtfully kept the cop arm hold behind my back and was able to take it back. 30 seconds left he just let me out by standing up on his own and going to the center. The feeling was that of frustration and just deciding to look to overtime. I made the mistake of following suit with him on this and also turning off my awareness and turning off for overtime. Let him walk around.. eh there was again this air of “when’s overtime?”. Then he threw the fake slaps, and I reacted by putting my arms up. And there it went, had to tap with just a couple seconds left. Jits has a beautiful way of consistently teaching you to be ever present to the current moment. Was the same way I was able to get that buzzer sleep sub the weeks prior was just a little lax by my opponent before OT. And now I got to learn the same lesson. That being said, the slaps were not allowed for this comp and randomly faking them in order to setup a sub was definitely illegal. Just hard to care when it’s trials for CJJ.

Ouch for Ben Eddy. I wish he had someone to help him train even the basics of explosion. The guy he was against knew his style so well, was never remotely worried about him exploding out of it(he never seems to try vs strong opponents, so 'flow like water' but guys like this who are as skilled, and with al ittle more strength and agility/explosion, can nullify him without regard.

When you think about it. Gi is training for war, because soldiers have vests, and stuff pinned to them they cannot take off. And so in war, gi training would be more appropriate. So, I was thinking, you should have to go through no gi to qualify for gi. And gi should be limited only to moves that would be effective in war. No gi is suited more to civilian life, because the first thing that happens, is the person rips off all upper body clothing.

agreed. Eddy is impressive sometimes, but when someone as good as him gets control, he simply cant explode or move as fast as they can. I know its part of his style to conserve energy, but, the last half of the match I would of been screaming at him to attempt something :P Having said that he was in a bad position from the get go.
