Here is the thing about gameshows… a gameshow is for entertainment, and RNG is a big part of that. Sure you can prepare, but there will always be curveballs. This is true for american ninja warrior, master chef, jeaperdy, whipe out, etc. Competitive people that want to remove RNG want to turn this into a different kind of thing more like a sport. It is totally valid, but it is not a gameshow, and the finals wants to be a gameshow. Competitive just means that you are competing, thats it, it does not mean that it will be “fair” or that there are no odds involved

This right here is my perspective, too. I love the "competitive"and "finals" aspects of it. But I love it the most because of the gameshow wild card randomness. I see it as a takeshi's castle meets ready player one or some very fun focused free-form sport. I hope more people understand the thematic context of the game and enjoy its modern humor and whimsy for what it is. Afterward, proceed to drop a 25 and 3 kda on powershift with a fun level of sweat involved.

If the custom game settings were optimized for player creativity, I think this game would be huge. A workshop mode that you could tweak different variables and even your own balances/ number tweaks…. I could see so many mini games that people could create and stick around to play that.

Melee only. A hide n sneak with lights vs heavy hammers and lights only have stun. A hot potato mode of people throwing red canisters at each other but then it blows up instead of 3 seconds - 10 seconds or whatever.

For real in my opinion is Rng just a bigger skill gap for the competitiv scene, its new to be aware of everything and decide youre next aktion IN this situation itself + in realtime, in my eyes, with the right treatment from the devs it will just open new doors to a new competitiv scene where players actually think and react in realtime to things ( in every unexpected scenario means WITH Rng) and not just learn every corner and position on the maps and repeat it... just like modern esport is nowadays exemple Valo and csgo. I will never leave The Finals till they shut down the servers. Anyway great vid bud!

Same here. I totally agree, and I looove how this game makes me think critically and also be sprinting in my chair haha. I understand it's stressful, but to me, that's the challenge. Do you fight, fly, or freeze? What's the tactic? What macro (strategy) should work best here? Do you just go full instinct? The experience being random, from playing against a real person, to playing different loadouts, map variations, game modes, and also random modifiers, to me, sounds like unlimited gaming entertainment tbh...

@@THiiXY also think about RNG in actual competitive sports : the rugby ball is a great example. It can bounce in weird and random ways depending of how it lands and the players actually learned to play around that with how they throw it or kick it! If you put that in perspective with the finals : you can expect and plan pretty much everything, but if one thing goes a bit sideways : cross your fingers!

I like this video but its really scary to see us talking about what the finals could be and what it was at the start of season 1. It honestly makes me feel crazy when I think about how everyone in this community thinks this game deserves more players and everyone says how cool the game is but the players just arent coming in.

The game is still super early, the full release is still less than a year, I think it's just fantasy because I really would be interested to see where everyone would be, time and patience are needed :)

@@THiiXY I hope it ends up picking up because its honestly a great game. I think part of the reason the finals hasn't attracted as many players as it could is just hardware limitations. This game isn't available on last gen consoles and not enough people are even bothering to by new gen consoles due to lack of purpose. Also maintaining a higher fps on the finals is probably still difficult for a majority of peoples PC's without playing on all low graphics. I'm hopeful that the finals will pop off, hell it might be a stretch of a comparison but apex really lost its relevance after release until around season 5-7, although who wanted to use origin. Keep up the great videos man.

the problem with custom games is all the game calculations are server-side (i.e the movement and destruction) so i see how it is an impossible task for embark rn to allow custom games or sandbox gamemodes with how expensive and resource heavy the servers can be and i feel like a lot people overlook or forget that. i would love to see it but with how the game is atm its extremely difficult.

That's a great point. I wonder how the first descendant fits all into this. I know arc raiders as well is expected to be around soon, so I wonder how money, resources, and personnel are managed around all these things before even considering new content, options, etc.

1000% and the fact that we can’t run our own servers to make up for that, which would take a tonne of time to implement etc. I think it’s mainly just fantasising about the future. Value changes however I feel is very easy to do, like the days of COD/Halo custom games :)

Great video, and a really open conversation. Custom settings for lobbies would definitely make all the difference for esports and a big boon to the casual side too. I'd love to see some improvements to the observer HUD too for viewability. How the game doesn't have a larger playerbase is a mystery to me as much as the next guy

exactly what ive said forever now about having less "RNG" in a serious e sport game. RNG makes it so that skill isnt the only factor that leads to a win. Finals has so much random shit in it that sometimes the stronger team with more kills in the entire lobby still loses..shit happens to me and my teammates sometimes. dropping 30 kills each and losing BEFORE the final tournament round. its wild.

Great vid! I love the after action interview with top players. It really feels like a post game interview with the coach, team captains, and mvps. Just for context (since I have been personally a bit disconnected from gaming overall); what's up with all the past tense, somber talk about The Finals in the end of the interview? Did something bad happen while I was away? Tbh, I kind of subconsciously knew ottr was out of the content creator sphere since I haven't seen uploads from him in a while, but I'm not exactly sad about it or anything. Great interview! I too would really like to see this game improve and become the FPS everyone wants to play and watch others play. And in the streamer space, it’s a very “monkey see, monkey do” atmosphere. If streamers would have jumped on and started streaming this game early on in season 1 after the Game Awards, other streamers would have jumped on it as well to get a piece of that pie. For some reason, streamers didn’t invest time in it or just tried it and jumped back into the game that they were known for.

I find it VERY hard to persuade my friends to play the Finals. The most common frustration for new players is getting used to many actually new mechanics in the game. With dynamic destruction RNG is always present, and I think devs must embrace it, not go away from it. You have to adapt on the fly, and this is very hard for 90% of the people. The game is fast, it has many obscure mechanics for new players and skill sealing is brutal. They simply cannot stick around because it is overwhelming! I think better onboarding will help in a big way plus lack of gamemodes and general content is hurting. But I believe the future is bright. Many games struggle in the beginning (looking at you Hunt, with 2k players on steam when the game released). If Embark will build the foundations for casual AND competitive players, the game will blow big. Also, I really don't like general view of the game from many content creators. It is like a running gag with *Is Finals dying!?* videos. More positivity, better onboarding and solid groundwork will do wonders.

Overall if you're just hanging out with friends and enjoy FPS titles, this is probably the best game in the world for that. I think deeper than that, there's some issues with ranked, balance, performance etc but I still have full faith in these developers. Honestly; playing against the cheaters made them better. I have like 400hrs in quick cash & usually do pretty well but I die alot. I put about 20hrs into W/T. When I play Q/C now I consistently have 10 more kills than deaths, sometimes 0 deaths. W/T is casual but the comp is tougher so it forced me to play better.

@@G4L_AKAZA Like he just said you just have to pull down its easy af on PC, if you dont pull down the reticle will move, if you pull down it wont, its pretty easy to understand then once you add recoil smoothing to that it makes it laughably easy. PUBG and rust for example are games that have very difficult recoil to control, The Finals, Apex, COD, or any other arcade shooter ALWAYS have extremely simple recoil patterns that are easy af to control.

I love the finals. I really hope it doesn’t die. every balance chains they do is wrong. and don’t forget they stab their OG rank player base in the back. I understand that they wanna work on the casual part part of the game. But why do you have to ruin the ranks for all the rank players when you’re focusing on casual? Changing the rain mode won’t bring more casual players to the game. And how bad the rink mode is it won’t bring any more new players. I’m still gonna be hitting diamond and I can’t wait for emerald. I feel like Community wise IN GAME we also need to do better. Like.. there's maybe about a 1/10 chance to get teammates using their mics properly, in a team shooter. This type of game gets stale much faster if you dont communicate, but literally noone does. I poke every single lobby i play in and try to get people to talk but rarely anyone ever does, it's frustrating and idk why everyone is silent. I have more people turning on mic to spit some slurs then instantly turn it off again scared of the reaction than people using it to be decent humans and saying hello to the people theyre gonna try to spend some good times with, wtf is that.

Something doesnt really appeal to casuals. Kai Cenat had a big part in Elden rings resurgence these past few months. Hed be big for the finals but on a stream with him and lil yachty apparently Kai doesnt like the game. Yachtys team plays the game though and they kinda just brushed on the topic while looking through his list of games but kai one of the biggest streamers called the game ass. I personally love the game and is my favorite fps but ive been playing shooters since i was a kid on Halo CE

Yeah I also agree that it would have been funny to see something where there's one creator who's an expert on THE FINALS, and then 2 other streamers who haven't really heard of THE FINALS, because it would have been really entertaining seeing how the expert co-ordinate playing in the match etc with the two others. In the full podcast, we did say that it wasn't optimal the way they ran the event.

I myself advocate for both sides because I see the potential in competitive but also how great the casual side is with this game probably being the best in the world at being a casual FPS, but I think everyone also wants more tech/features from THE FINALS to come down the line (Genji Ball example).
