Anime twitter is wild. Sometimes you get people saying the Chimera Ant arc is the worst arc in HxH or that Mob Psycho is a terrible anime with no justifications whatsoever and you just can't help but wonder what's going on in these guy's heads. It's the main reason I don't interact with anime twitter.

Good to see you back, nice setup! Honestly, I think it's fine to dislike the ending of Attack on Titan. It was kinda bad in the manga from what I hear as well. I think some parts were bad. I think it was overall good. About Vinland Saga: I think a lot of people missed the part with Thorfinn's dad in the beginning and him talking about war and what makes a good warrior etc etc. They literally just ignored it. They saw vikings and they thought this was gonna be an action filled show with no real substance of a story that goes past revenge. It makes me so sad that people aren't able to understand that there's more than just fighting. Vinland Saga is absolutely one of my favorite shows of all time and I do not see a reason for it to be hated on. Maybe sometimes the pacing was off but that's about it. The story is perfect, action is immaculate, animation is god tier, music is fire and pretty much anything else you can think of is just doing what it has to do. I don't have a problem if you didn't enjoy the show in general, I do think you shouldn't force your expectations on a show and hate on it when it doesn't deliver though. If you don't like it, don't watch it. But don't go complaining about something not being what you wanted it to be. If you go back to season 1 after watching season 2 you can see super clear setups for season 2 and the type of character Thorfinn is going to turn into. It's so obvious yet people don't look deeper than the surface level and that's why they are mad about it. Anyways, I could go on for hours on end, type out a whole ass essay about my feelings on this topic, but this already too long of a paragraph will have to do. Yet again, I don't mind if you generally dislike Vinland Saga or Attack on Titan, but if you only look at the surface level of a show and then complain about it, don't expect me or pretty much anyone who cares about that show to take you seriously. If I were to bring out my own experience with going into a show with expectations and them being totally changed, it was Oshi no Ko. I was super hesitant to pick it even up because I thought it was a full on idol anime and that's it. The first episode changed my view totally. I can see why someone would drop it if they wanted it to be an idol show. But don't go and complain that it isn't. Move on. The show isn't for you. Also, why there are so many school kids and boys in shonen? Because of the genre is called pretty much "teen boys" more or less. It's literally meant for teens. If you want more diverse cast of main characters, venture into other genres. You right. Also: Do watch Jujutsu Kaisen, season 2 gives more character development just like in Vinland Saga. It's still about fighting, but the characters change a lot. 100% recommend.

Yeah I think it’s completely fine to not like them but I do t find it funny that people thought it wouldn’t be the way it is. Like maybe it’s just me but that shit was written all over the walls in red ink. That’s really my only problem. If someone just didn’t like it then hey more power to ya. I absolutely will be watching JJK. I too love watching niggas box and I don’t disregard the writing prowess of the mangaka.
@Antiluls11 ай бұрын
Yeah its horrible imo. All went to shit when Marley was introduced. All the mystique and allure vanished, and it awkwardly changed from a monster/fantasy show to a military oriented. It also felt to me like all the passion had left the Mangaka after as well and he was on a full-on sprint to just end the series. Seems like a lot of plot holes and open ends were never resolved by the end.

A lot of people just don't actually invest much thought or time into the shows they watch, so if it doesn't click or vibe with them on a surface level, it automatically has to be a bad show. Also you've mentioned Baki if someone just wants to see characters fight all the time, surprisingly enough, the show has quite a bit of meaning behind it, which is just hidden beneath the insanity of the show itself, but people sadly just dismiss it as nonsense for some reason which is a bit disheartening truth be told. But yeah, shonen only fans do tend to have a tunnel vision regarding anime.
@Dvrth11 ай бұрын
I can relate because I’m about as casual as an anime fan can be. That doesn’t take away from my comprehension though ya know lol You ain’t wrong though the tunnel vision is very real
@Fuphu11 ай бұрын
Shonen fans tunnel vision alot, especially since the "Sigma invasion" occurred and now nobody can see past whats going on right infront of their faces and take everything at face value. Baki and God of War are great examples. Starting with GoW: Kratos is shown being emotionally weak and unstable without his son by his side and lashes out abit on Odin, a clear moment of weakness of character....Hey thats cool lets make that an edit with typical sigma music and show that this is cool and meant to be emulated in some capacity. Then we have Baki fans: Where all they can think of is "insane OP move" which is nice but blinds them to what happens literally 2 panels ago in a manga most of the times, they also ignore many character personalities and whatnot and will actively supress any conversation about the show cause "It has bad writing, stop looking too deep into it". Baki admires and hates his father, he seeks vengeance and also his attention and love. Jack claims he wants vengeance but its all a lie he just wants power and approval. And a few more exist.

To be fair. In regard to Vinland saga. There is an interview with the creator where they talk about the anime and the violence being over glorified. And it's boiling down to him not having realized that it would be animated so well and making the violence look so cool. I think of it in terms of the Kratos conundrum. First era Kratos was true to the vision of the creator. New era Kratos that's about change and growth isn't what the original creator wanted. From a western standpoint, we're taught different values. Hell, our legal system is predicated guilty until proven innocent. And for most of Asia it's the other way around. A lot of these series are power fantasies made by people living in an economic sinkhole. We see it in the parents never being there for most series. The underlying subtext of them working themselves into an early grave. We think the political system in the states is decrepit, but Japan was shut off from most of the world for so long and still is in a lot of ways. That all factors in to a lot of these shows. Even nonsensical anime have depth that's just lost to us culturally. People still forget that Japan was team Germany during the last world war, and that a lot of them are still under that mindset. And it took two yes two nukes to humble that. But look at Tanya the evil, FMA:brotherhood, overlord etc. and there's that underling layer of might make right while boosting up German looks and ideals. Anime always ends up deeper than it was meant to be. jfc cowboy bebop was meant to sell space toys before the Star Wars prequels came out. They hired the director right out of college, and the man failed his way to success. Because no one gave a damn about those toys. Apologies, English is not my first language and I struggle with nuance in my writing. The tone I was aiming for was enthusiastic. But given a quick look back, it feels more aggressive than I intended.
@Dvrth11 ай бұрын
No I think you make fantastic points. People’s art isn’t always taken the way they want it and they really can’t predict things such as how it’s animated. I do agree that the depth is lost on us and it’s a good thing to point out the legal system. Also your English is fine. You got your point across extremely well. 🙏🏾

I always try to think in terms of perspective. When I have to explain to friends why American cheese is so popular. I have to remind myself that most of them have markets that are strictly regulated, so there's far less waste. That they don't have massive grocery stores. That they have proper shops for meat or bread, and cheese. That most of their burgers are topped with Swiss. America is processed to a streamline way of thinking. And American cheese was made to melt quickly. And their disgust comes from not having a period of struggle to adhere them to it. Or going to a fast food place that has it ready for you in under 6 min. and when they complain about it being overly processed I remind them that the same system is why you can eat a banana without having to go around the seed. @@Dvrth

Ayo, we back with a new setup? I’m liking it. By "trash takes" do you mean takes that make no sense and just exist to hate or do you mean fair negative takes but are talked about too much? Cause I feel like DS is horrible despite me reading the manga as it came out but for more fundamental reasons of story writing and character creation. As for JJK and whatnot I do agree that they will accept no criticism when there's a decent bit to complain about. I'm just curious as to what you meant.

@@Fuphu No if it’s fair criticism it’s fine but hating just to hate is lame af
@slobertooth135811 ай бұрын
@Fuphu I was talking about the former. Demon slayer and mha as a series is really over hated online, especially twitter. It's completely fair if you don't like it or give fair criticism, but people online needlessly shit on both and make shit up just to tradhon it. That or they don't read it and regurgitate the same trash take that's been said over and over again. Seriously the whole "carried by animation take" for Ds has been said since 2020 and it's 2024. I personally have way more problems with JJk as a series than I do Ds and mha, but people online treat jjk as the second coming of christ that can do no wrong. Jjk fans are becoming to the new one piece fans fir more than that too

@@slobertooth1358 I read DS, JJK, and pretty much every single anime that came out within the last 3 years in manga form and was at some point reading up to 14 hours a day if not more sometimes staying up for over a whole day just binging and checking new stuff out and I'll give a brief opinion on both DS and JJK. DS: Started off pretty strong with the story, but both the fights and story became incredibly lack luster not long after, this is to the exclusion of a few exceptions. Since DS didnt have a compelling MC to have development I didnt get interested in that, the main plot was simple and just went where it wanted so there was no reason to ponder or think about its future, and the fights start off well but Tanjiro specifically really pissed me off because not only is he OP for no reason but every upper moon he beats is through a random power-up or some emotional type bs with uncreative fights. TLDR: Characters are very surface level, Story is good but very predictable, Fights are the highlight but are nothing special. This means that nothing about the show is good enough to grip anyone. JJK: I really tried to read the manga but the pacing and the paneling werent very good and I waited on the anime, I watched the anime and thought to myself "This is better but only cause its animated, its still choppy and jumps everywhere", the fights are very nice and the brutality was appreciated too and didnt feel too forced unlike in DS where they feel the need to over-mutilate their characters for the sake of raising stakes. TLDR: I dont know as much but the characters are mildly interesting, the main villain is a weird topic, Gojo is kinda my bane but i gotta finish S2 and watch the movie to fully judge, and the fights are good but nothing crazy. Ending opinion: Yeah ur right, people will bring up "pedo" talk about DS but the only thing I could think of is the Nezuko sexualization which is weird, and JJK fans are like one piece fans for sure. This in my opinion is just caused by: 1) Normies joining due to Covid (Its fine but it shows sometimes due to their lack of experience they call the newest decent shows "the best"). 2) Animation is advancing very quickly. 3) Tiktok herd mentality. 4) The "Sigmas" who will choose to hate anything popular or good cause they dont wanna be normal. All this results in angry fandoms attacking people and things, one who are innocent and new praising what they just saw which is only surface level of "good" in terms of anime, and on the other hand we have the "elitists" who are either anime vets or just wanna hate on popular shows like MHA which is honestly not even bad, I just hate the MC due to how they set up the show ("Can I be a hero without super powers?" "Yes you can" then gets the most OP power, thats why I dislike it) Sorry for rant/essay I just like talking and now i'm in break after finishing my finals.

I agree with pretty much most of what you said but I feel like you kinda downplayed most settings and MC representation. You're right there are many female MC or adult MC and so on but the issue is that is alot....on its own, when compared to the machine that is shonen and young man MC its very small, underfunded, and typically not very good. I love many shows and genres from Jojo's to Your Lie in April, the full spectrum, each show I enjoy tends to have good female and male characters and yet this is simply not the case for the overwhelming majority of shonen, and its even more scarce in Shojou or Seinin with Adult MCs, the biggest issue is genres imo. Shonen: Can include practically anything and typically get well funded animation, the manga are also plentiful. Shojou: Have strange artstyles which can be polarizing, stories are 90% romance with very few normal shows. (This is cause Shojou is meant to appeal to the "typical female") Seinin: Easily the best of the 3 but can be VERY VERY VERY hit or miss, either producing some of the best fiction or utter garbage, also most of them tend to not be adventurous in their art style or setting style or main story beats making many of them feel repetitive. I wanna more female MCs who arent super predictable and are still entertaining to watch, I want LGBT characters to also become MCs and may or may not have that aspect implemented into their character, I wanna see more adult MCs and settings without the "grunge" or so I call it, where it either takes place in: 1) A back alley. 2) Police station. 3) Post Apocalyptic world. There are many exceptions and I enjoy them but due to how overwhelming shonen is, I have given up searching for good new series and just wait until the new Shonen tickles my fancy. Again to re-iterate I know there are many options I just wish I had more :L Edit: Nice hair, also glad to have you on the casting couch buddy
@Dvrth11 ай бұрын
I agree there can be a lot more women included in anime for the mc spot. There’s not a lot of women in the space but if every mangaka wants a guy as their mc in their art it’s not really their fault. Honestly I hope for the day people write more female mcs but the truth is that right now that’s not what people want to write and I guess by proxy not what people want to watch. Shonen is popular. Male MCs are popular. It seems to be what the majority wants to watch. Maybe that’ll change one day but that day is not today. Also casting couch is crazy af 😂😂
